Hey All!
After making a rough map of the major APs in my area, I've come up with some questions I can't quite find the answer to.
1) With Kismet, I can see more than one network; where do I choose which one to connect to? It always connects to the one where you need to pay..
2) Is there any way to get by the networks where you need to pay, or is that getting into WEP?
I'm runnig a SL-5600, with Zynergy ROM (basically the same as the original Sharp), and I use Kismet to sniff. I also installed Wellenreiter and Discoverer, but they both keep asking me to restart them in root mode, even after I've set "start as root" in the menu in Qt..
I have an Ambicom card, with a Prism 2.5 chipset.

if you see mutiples of the same network :: one is probably the probe :: that's just the AP broadcasting.
a general rule of thumnb :: always connect to whatever is sending the most poackets, (meaning the bext quality signal since you can sniff the cleanest there)
If you still have multiple Aps with the same name (*cough linksys *cough*) .. just look at the MAC address of the AP. It their all different, you have sepertae machines, if ther are two that are the same, it might be a repeater or something similiar and thier doing mac cloneing. lots of possibilites.
As far as getting into a pay site ::: the easiest is to pay.
outside of that you're on dubiouse legal ground, and watch your ass might try using hotspotter and spoofing the hot spot. Then just wait for a real custimer to come and connect to you instead of the real hotspot. bing you just snarfed thier user and pass ... but that isn't very nice.
