Title: How can I make use of ROMS and keep the jap. fonts
Post by: informer on November 20, 2004, 06:13:59 pm
Just got my SL-C3000 and have changed the font settings to zh_TW (which shows the system in English but still retains Japanese readability).

Can I use some of the cool ROMs like pdaXrom and still retain my language settings?

I couldn't find a place to start my query so its here in the newbie section.

Onegai!

The main thing is backing up the Japanese fonts. Not sure what they might be names, but they would be in /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts, or the links to them are in there.

Hi,

I wanted to ask. So is it possible to get the Cacko ROM and still use Japanese fonts is typing and messaging etc?

There was a thread on this topic a while back, found using the search. link here (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6587&hl=)

The procedure outlined there should work, but from what I've heard (I've never used Cacko) the best Japanese support is to stick with the original Sharp ROM.

I agree to Surreal. Especially since no one from Japan works on Opie and OpenZaurus, support for it is non-existing.

I wouldn't try installing any of the available roms on the SL-C3000, because (as far as I know) none of them support the 3k yet. The applications might work ok, but I wouldn't count on the kernel working properly.

Also, some of the 3k apps, such as the dictionary, zdict, require newer versions of certain libraries, including libqpe. If you _were_ able to run something like Cacko on the 3k, it would take some work to get the 3k apps to work properly with it (though it is possible).

Btw, it's extremely easy to (re)add Japanese support to a Cacko Qt install... there is a japanese-support ipk floating around that includes all the necessary fonts and files.
