Title: Removal of Background Tabs in Qtopia?
Post by: wormwood on November 21, 2004, 06:13:02 pm
Was wondering if one can disable the background tabs in Qtopia? If possible, I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

On my Cacko setup the large icons are in /home/QtPalmtop/pics144/ and the small icons are in /home/QtPalmtop/pics/. When I got rid of all of the tab icons (AppsIcon.png, etc.) the bar got a lot smaller... though I doubt this is what you want (to remove the bar).

I have a feeling removing the tabs completely requires a qtopia rebuild, but perhaps someone smarter and better informed can help you.

Are you referring to the categorized tabs, such as Applications, Settings, Games, etc.?

If so, you can change the configuration, or eliminate a tab completely, using the TabManager application.  If you are Linux savvy, you can also do this directly: each tab represents a subdirectory of /opt/Qtopia/apps.  Every icon displayed on a particular tab has a corresponding .desktop file in the subdir for that tab.  You will not see changes you make to the configuration until you refresh or restart Qtopia.

BTW, the last tab (FileManager) is hardcoded into Qtopia, so it cannot be removed by a simple configuration change,

I think wormwood is worried about screen real estate. Although removing all his directories for those tabs would remove the tabs, the tab bar itself would still be present, if the file manager tab remains. Right?

In short, there is no known solution.
