Title: Can't Write To Sd Card
Post by: Joeboo on November 28, 2004, 02:12:45 pm
Hi,

I've got a 5600 pdxa250 runnning the most recient qtopia with the special kernal.  I am trying to get a "generic" 128mb SD card to work on my Z and I am unable to transfer any files onto this card.  I've tried moving from my CF card and from the cradle with no luck.  The brand is Impact which I have never seen before, but Walmart started carrying them for black friday.  I exchanged the original card for a new one and I am still getting the same problem.  I have a 32mb Lexar SD card which works fine.  These are the error messages:

On my PC:

Please review with the "Error check" function on your Zaurus.
When I run dmesg on my Z:

select error
sd flush : ERROR adr = 51200 (0xc800) , len = 5
12 (0x200)
[sd]-R 14000 0200 ERROR!
pxa_sd_wait response:  responce time out (cmd=07
 MMC_STAT=0x2142)
sd_write_single(196609) : select error
this repeats many times and the last line is:

NETDEV WATCHDOG: usbd0: transmit timed out

Is there anything I can do about this problem?  ...drivers...settings...format..etc?

Also, on the first card I tried, I formated a couple times using FAT16 and ext2 and I tried formating with a digital camera.

Thanks for your help,
Joeboo

(Repost, does anyone read the 5x00 hardware forum anymore?)

Through my research on the forums I've learned that not all SD are created equal. Many manufacturers don't stick to the standard for i/o timings and the Z is very sensitive to this.
There was an updated SD driver but I think that was only for the 5500. I know it doesn't help much but you may have a card that won't function on the Z period. You said it reads in other devices, which is the case with many other SD cards that don't work with the Z.

That is what I suspected, but I'll keep hoping for a solution.

Thanks

I saw these cards and was thinking of buying one myself, so decided to search this forum just in case and saw your post. I guess I'll pass on this card even though I have a 5500 instead of the 5600. I have noticed that the Zaurus seems to be unconsistant with certain SD cards. As to card manufacturers not following spec, why is that other devices don't seem to have a problem with these same cards?

Yeah, would have been nice if it worked.  I gave one to my brother for his digital camera and it worked fine.  I gave up and exchanged mine a couple days ago for  Return of The King:EE.  I know deals are popping up all the time for these things, but it would have been nice to buy something local with no rebate.
