Title: Recommended Wireless Cf
Post by: cavaughan on November 29, 2004, 01:23:04 pm
I have found a Linksys 802.11b Wireless Compact Flash, WCF12 for about $70. It's the cheapest I've been able to find and am wondering whether anyone thought I should not buy this Linksys, or whether there is another one comparably priced that I should consider.

BTW, I am using a SL5000 w/Cacko Sharp ROM.

Oh, one other question. Where can I get a web browser for this? I can't seem to find any out there.

I have had a good experience with the SanDisk Connect Wi-Fi card (note that this is NOT the one with built-in memory).

FWIW, it works great with Sharp-based ROM's as well as OZ (once I removed the hostap modules).

My CF Wi-Fi, model WL-CF, from Trellis, works fine.

I use a Symbol Spectrum 24 which I got from Shirtpocket.

I bought it for its low power consumption and it works fine with both my Sl-5500 and C860.

It needs a kernel module but if your using Cacko's kernel then it should already be compiled in and work without any problems.

I got one of those Linksys ones, and while it worked fine, it wasn't very robust and eventually broke. A connection inside broke somewhere, so it would sort of work of I pushed the card upwards while inside the slot.

I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to be carrying it around with you without a hard plastic case to put it in.

I have a 2nd hand WCF12 for about 2 months now, and am quite happy with it.
No issues thus far.
This card turns out to be more sensitive than my Zyxel b/g PCMCIA one.

I've had a WCF-12 for a while and have had good luck with it and the Sharp 3.10 ROM.
