Hi everyone!
I successfully installed openzaurus 3.5.2 on my SL-6000L i tried both opie and gpe, but there are some issues:
both for opie and gpe:
- suspend and resume for the power button doesn't work
- cannot adjust backlight intensity
for opie:
- the Fn key on the keyboard does not work (really annoying)
for gpe:
- after a screen rotation, the taskbar is missing
Are these known bugs, or am i doing something wrong? OZ is awesome, but these are really annoying. If they are unknown bugs, where can i bugreport?
-
same here

does these things work on your SL-5600? Then maybe it's device specific, and may not be there in the next versions.
-
For fn on opie, I thought it was broken as well, but if you press and release fn, then hit the second key,
it works for me on my SL6000.

I have noticed the above as well.
I am having a problem setting up the wireless network. I go into the network settings via the gui and try to configure. There isn't any option for ssid, encrypt, etc. Does it all have to be done via the console?
-
You still have to do it from the command line. It's the same problem nevarrie was having. See the link in the 6000 section.
-
You do not have to do anything manually.
-First select your wireless wlan0, then tap configure and check "Bringup Automaticlly".
-Turn the Zaurus around and press the reset button.
-Bring your Zaurus up again with the power button.
-When OZ is started you will notice the Wifi led is on and/or blinking.
-Go to network again select your wlan0 and tap configure you will then have full options including a scan mode to find all ssid in your neighborhood.
hope this help.

Hi,
I am one of the new flux of Zaurus user who got the 6000L on Amazon. After playing my new toys for the entire weekend, I decided to flash the ROM to Open Zaurus.
However, I was unable to flash it succesfully. Here are the steps of what I did:
1. I downloaded "updater.sh" and "opie.data"
2. Copy both files to "/usr/mnt.rom/cf" and rename "opie.data" to "updater.data".
3. I downloaded "zImage.bin" and "opie-image.jffs2 "
4. Copy both files to "/usr/mnt.rom/cf"
5. Rename "zImage.bin" to "zImage" and "opie-image.jffs2" to "initrd.bin"
6. Press "c" + "d" + "reset"
7. The orange and green light will just blink forever
8. Flash failed....turn back on the power and see the Sharp ROM.
Please....tell me what I did wrong. I am dieing to try Open Zaurus..
Thanks.

I only used the updater.sh and updater.data. Did a cf update and booted opie, and gpe (tried them both). I didn't think you needed the other parts.
-
You need to follow the SL6000 specific instructions (and use the SL6000 specific images!)
In particular, from memory:
put updater.sh and updater.data on your cf card, put in zaurus (if not already there). Press reset, now turn on while holding the OK key. You will get a menu,
pick item 4, (update?). in the next menu choose CF. After a bit, the openzaurus install menu should appear.

Gee if there are a whole bunch of new zaurus fans maybe we can get sharp to keep a toe in the us pda/ laptop-replacement market.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I was following the old FAQ and trying to flash 6000L ROM using the 5600 style.
Now, I have Open Zaurus running in my beloved Zaurus now.

After suspending my Zaurus under Opie 3.5.2, I am having problem turnning it back on!!
The orange LED does not light up when I plug in the wall charger.
Hitting reset does nothing.
Hitting reset + "OK" does nothing.
Hitting reset + "D" + "P" does nothing.
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

My 5500 does the same thing with GPE, I have to open the battery compartment, hit reset, close the compartment and put the switch back to normal operation.
Then a second or two on the cancel button turns it back on.
