I installed Openzaurus 3.5.2 on my 5500, and it's pretty cool. However, not one package that I install shows up on a tab. The only things on my tabs are the default apps it shipped with. Am I missing something? I installed from the ipk's in the feed directory from openzaurus.org. The package manager shows the apps, like Opera, installed to SD(ext2) but they still don't show up. Additionally, how does one manually set up a shortcut on a tab in OZ?
Thanks.. I really dislike the original Sharp rom and the 3.1 rom broke sync, so I really want to make OZ work for me.

Follow the above link and you'll be fine

Thanks for the lightning fast reply. That looks like it will fix things. One question though, will it work the same with 3.5.2? I noticed the thread was about the previous rom image. Should I revert to 3.5.1 or is the proceedure pretty much the same?
After following the instructions in that post, I attempted to install konqueror from the feed. It looked like it was going well until the end when I got a "symlinking failed!!" error.
I wonder if I should replace my ROM with 3.5.1
I noticed in you sig you are having trouble putting ext2 on your SD card. Have you tried a Live Linux cd and a card reader? I had trouble getting it on mine too, but once I booted to my Linux side and used an SD card reader, I was able to successfully format the card ext2. Just a thought..

The Package Manager in 3.5.2 has been working great for me with two exceptions:
1) There was no path to the feed http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...5.2/feed/devel/ (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.2/feed/devel/)
You'll know this when dependancies are not found.
2) The ipkg linker does not always work.
This is an easy fix. If you installed to the sd card just run
ipkg-link mount /mnt/card
This will link all the pacages on the sd card to the appropriate places.

Thanks. I tried the instructions on the link above, changing the paths to the feed to reflect 3.5.2. It really didn't work. There were missing dependancies trying to install aqpkg. Additionally, the openzaurus.org feed is reeaallly slow, so I am trying to use a mirror, which is much faster. I will now restore the package manager and add devel. I hope that fixes a few dependency problems, and I will run the ipkg-link if I see the symlinking fail.
Edit: I reflashed 3.5.2 and added an entry for the devel foler. My first update failed, but I found the problem to be a trailing slash on the default URLs for the feed directories.
Wouldn't it be nice to have dependency resolution on a Z, like apt or YaST provide for their distros. Thankfully when I tried installing Konqueror again, the only thing missing (libpcre) was available in the feed.
-
Konqueror is still failing, saying it can't find pcre >= 4.4, yet I just installed libpcre from the feed. What could the problem be?? I still have yet to successfully install anything on operzaurus 3.5.2.
-
Konqueror is still failing, saying it can't find pcre >= 4.4
I imagine this is a problem with the naming of either the dependency in the Konq control file, or the pcre package itself.
Try using -force-depends for Konq and I think you'll find it works.

I tried again with force dependancies checked, It warned about it but continued, then began downloading and installing oz-compat on it's own. It then rebooted spontaniously and landed at a promt. I rebooted and again no konqueror. What am I doing wrong here?
Now it says it is installed, but there is still no icon for it on the tabs. Do I have to create one? If so, how do you do that. I looked for a utility for it and came up empty.
Why don't these libraries come with OZ by default? I know it would be too much if they included all the libraries, but what about the extremely common ones like libstdc++ and the like?
-
before installing oz-compact/konqueror (can be after) you need to install
libprce (which is in the upgrade folder
and
opie-sh-micro
-
I already installed libpcre0 from the upgrades folder, and can't seem to find oz-compact/konqueror or opie-sh-micro
I am doing these installs from the command line via ssh. Is there some command I may be missing to create the links/icons?
I am reinstalling oz-compat, libpcre0, with all other feeds disabled. I think there was another copy in a different feed. Now I will only have upgrades from OZ.org enabled while installing these.
Thanks for helping me out with this, I really like OZ, I just need to learn how to work with it..
-
I don't know if this works, but try installing this one...
I uploaded the file. Download the file and change the extension to ipk instead of jpg
-
Thanks I will try that. I cannot seem to get anything from oz.org. The connection is horribly slow.
What filename do I change it to? It is currently post-69-1102196851
-
The orginal file name is opie-sh-micro_0.0.1-0_arm.ipk.
But just changing the extension ipk would be fine.
I also have problem in OZ.org, take a minute to load the page.
-
Cool, that installed smoothly. Now I will try Konqueror again.
It still says it is missing pcre >= 4.4
IT WORKS!!!!. Woooohoooo. Thank you so much...
-
there should be prce in upgrade section.
libpcre0_4.4-r1_arm.ipk
Install that and force dependent installation, it should be in the option area if you are using package manager to install packages.
-
I now have a working browser thanks to the fine folks here at ZUG.com . I am downloading the libpcre file manually just incase the installed one fails. If it was going to fail wouldn't it break Konqueror?
Whatever I did, it seems to have fixed my package installation issues. I am downloading and installing apps like mad right now, and the installs are going smoothly.
To show my gratitude towards the OZ developers and the community, I think I will set up an OZ feed mirror on my website. I have little traffic at this point so I should have bandwidth to spare.
-
I believe not.
But even so, is just another flash, and doing the similar things once again.
That's how zaurus works....a TIME KILLER...
Try Opera if you feel one broswer is not safe enough

I am glad to see that things apparently worked, though I am not sure I follow why they did not work and
what made them work in the end.
I wonder if the following would have worked from the start:
ipkg-link mount /mnt/card
or
ipkg-link add
for making the icon appear. I had to do that with every re-boot in 3.5.1 for apps installed on sd, but that seems to be fixed now. Then
ldconfig
to make the libraries show up.

I had a bad oz-compat package installed and was missing the packages Mahoro provided above. That seemed to be the problem for once they were installed, everything worked the way it should.
