Hi!
I have fixed some bugs in the KDE-Pim/Pi version 1.9.13:
Info about the changes in new versions of KDE-Pim/Pi
********** VERSION 1.9.14 ************
Fixed some problems with the dialog sizes when switching
portrait/landscape mode on 640x480 PDA display.
Fixed some other small bugs in KA/Pi KO/Pi and OM/Pi and PwM/Pi.
Fixed an ugly bug in KOpieMail:
KOpieMail was not able to write files (mails) to MSDOS file system,
like on an usual preformatted SD card. That should work now.
To save your mail data on the Sd card do the following:
Create a dir on the SD card:
mkdir /mnt/card/localmail
Go to your home dir:
cd
Go to kopiemail data storage dir:
cd kdepim/apps/kopiemail
Create a symlink to the SD card:
ls -s /mnt/card/localmail
Now KOpieMail will store all mails on the SD card.
KO/Pi Monthview:
Now "Go to Today" selects the current month from day 1-end,
not the current date + some days.
I.e. "Go to Today" shows now always
the current month with first day of month in the first row.
Added missing German translation.
Fixed icons of executeable on Wintendo.
Added a "Show next Mail" button to the OM/Pi
mail viewer such that the mail below the current mail
in the mail list view of the current folder
can be read with a single click.

Please test and report problems.
If there are no problems, it will be the stable 2.0 release version in 1-2 weeks.
Thx.

1.9.14 cannot make recurrent todos ;(
-
I'll bugtest this one. I'll use the new conf file instead of my own old, as it seemed to create bugs that didn't exist on a clean install.
edit: maybe an installation ipk for the QT embedded libs? (kcommander fails without them) You have to remount / read-write to create a symlink, which isn't really within reach of the first strolling newbie
edit: thanks for replying to even the closed the bugs so I could try new things. Found some bugs that I'll report in the SF system.
Kcommander4z RFE: integrate addressbook with Kapi.
Kcommander4z RFE: allow fast-start.
more edit: can't seem to reach the SF page, so here's something I'm struggling with:
On a brand new install (/home/zaurus/kdepim has been wiped), when you create a new todo/event, you always get "anniversary" or whatever is the (alphabetically) first standard event (instead of a blank input field). It's mighty annoying
yet more edit: confirmed on a totally blank install, submitted to SF. (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1080388&group_id=104103&atid=636951)
more edit: Thanks a lot for the time you've put into kdepimpi this far. If you want me to test out the next release befre you publish it, let me know.
-
Temporary bugs outline:
kapi: browsing up and down card list is very very slow (using keys to browse, instead of scrolling)
edit: I am removing the bugs and requests for enhancements here as I enter them in the SourceForge RFE and bug tracking systems.

Hi! Thanx for good job with kdepim/pi.
I don't have Zaurus, but I've found it good PIM program for W2K. I'm using it for a month and I'm very satisfied with it's general "outlook" and perspectives for development.
I have one question and one bug.
1. Is it possible to sync from W2K to mobile phone (nokia 6610 through irda)? I followed instructions in HowTo but all I get was error: "Sorry, the database access command failed! Nothing synced!"
If the operation is generally possible, I suspect two problems:
* path with spaces to calendar files (c:\documents and settings\...)
* polish letters in events and todos (my phone is localized too, but probably it's standard isn't windows cp1250)
2. Polish letters again... It is possible to enter any text with any strange central european diacritical marks (just like in any other windows), but when I get hints during editing summary of event or todo, all polish letters are replaced with strange character combinations (e.g. A3 or |?).
Greetings!

I've discovered one problem with KO/PI 1.9.14: Double-clicking in the agenda brings up a "new event" dialog, but the title of the event is taken from an old event, the date always seems to be the current date (not the date you clicked) and the time to be 12:00 .
I really apprecieate this PIM-suite - use it all the time.

I have this same problem, and cannot edit current to-do because of it.
-
kopi alarm applet is iso-8859-1 only - alarm with description "test ±æê³ñ󶼿 TEST" show only "test" - it is totally wrong for me and is a serious ShowStopper for 2.0 release
second showstopper is lack of recurrent todos.
I can post VCard for you tomorrow.

I am sorry, one of my "fixes" caused that bug.
I wiil try to fix it this weekend.
All: Please do not use 1.9.14 on Zaurus.
Windows version does not have this problem.

More happy little bugs:
kapi bug: no A in jump bar (I get a ! instead). no natural way to revert to full list.
kapi bug: edit new categories just doesn't work when you simply copy /home/zaurus/kdepim over. RFE: maybe add a rescan button to the categories configuration dialog.
kopi bug: when calling todo list from alarm applet, icon doesnt appear in taskbar.
kapi RFE: find-as-you-type when using search field: display new result set for each new character input/removal in the search bar (basically makes the search field a dynamic filter).
kapi RFE: remember 2 columns width settings for each column (1 for portrait, 1 for landscape).
kapi RFE: jump bar on top instead of on the side in portrait mode.
kapi RFE: choose items visible in details pane
kapi RFE: provide long tap menu for the contact list (like the kopi todo list)
kapi RFE: SyncML?
Zautrix, thanks for the update. Should I continue dumping the other bugs in the tracker? Could you please put 13 back on SF.net?

The problems of the version 1.9.14 should be fixed.
Please try again ... and please test the new features:
Info about the changes in new versions of KDE-Pim/Pi
********** VERSION 1.9.15 ************
Usebilty enhancements in KO/Pi:
When clicking on the date in a month view cell, the day view is shown.
Old behaviour was, that the "new event" dialog popped up.
Added a one step "undo delete" in KO/Pi (Accessable in the "Action" menu).
That means, you can restore the latest
event/todo/journal you have deleted.
A journal is deleted, if you clear all the text of the journal.
Fixed the bug of the editor dialogs in KO/Pi of version 1.9.14.
KA/Pi starting in 480x640 resolution:
Hide the filter action in toolbar
and added icons for undo/delete/redo in toolbar.
Change in OM/Pi ViewMail dialog:
When clicking on the "delete" icon the mail is deleted after confirmation as usual. But the edit dialog is not closed as before, now the next mail in the folder is shown automatically (if there is any).
Fixed a crash when deleting mail-accounts in OM/Pi.

Hurray! Thanks for the info you put in your replies to my bug reports.
Installing now, will report back with comments and hopefully not too many bugs
Would you consider re-organizing the main menu to make all items easily accessible with no doubles? Seems better to me than putting the same items everywhere
Silly little bugs (I will transfer them to SF.net when I'm done editing them)
Pwm/Pi: the [Enter] key doesn't work when entering your master password on application startup, you have to use [OK]

Hi zautrix
first of all thanx a lot for the great work. the kopi suite is gorgeous !
one little thing though: in the new releases in the week-view there is above the todo list a line "click to add a new todo" which I rather like to use for the todo list itself. I am mostly using the keyboard to input new todos (ctrl+t). As I didn't find a tick in configuration, maybe it's possible to add this ?
Another question: Do you plan to add PWM/PI to windows ? I really like it on the zaurus and would like to sync to XP

Sorry if I missed this problem somewhere else... I looked everywhere but couldn't find anything involving my problem below:
I have the slightly older version of KDE Pim installed (Version 1.9.13). I am planning on upgrading to the latest, but first I would have to figure out how to do with while preserving my data (appointments, e-mail, etc). But, in the meantime, there is an alarm that has been going off on my Zaurus every few minutes for the last day and I want to find out how to permenantly turn off that alarm!
I get the following window:
KO/Pi Alarm! [X] [OK]
---------------
The following event triggered alarm:
Suspended:
Missed Alarm:
Suspend duration (minutes): [ ]
[Suspent] [Stop sound] [Ok]
I've tried pressing all of the buttons, but the alarm keeps coming back. I even disabled the alarm on the calendar.
We have a run-away alarm here... short of uninstalling the KOPI app, how can I get this alarm to go away?... permenantly?
Has this already been previously addressed? (if not, then I'm surprised... although I do have it installed on my MSDOS SD, so maybe that's the problem, since the KDE Pim sometimes has troubl ewriting to the MSDOS filesystem)
If this should be fixed by the latest version, how can I upgrade to teh latest version without losing my data?
Thanks in advance!! (The KDE Pim is AWESOME!!)

There is no problem updating. Just deinstall the old version and install the new version.

I have never heard of this problem.
It is a suspended alarm, which is triggered from the alarm applet itself.
You should press OK and not suspend to stop the alarm permanently.

I just found out, that there is something odd with the alarm.
I can stop the alarm, but I get always duplicated or more alarm.
I will have a look at this.

You can switch the "click to add a new todo" on/off via the contaxt menu or pressing "Q".
We plan to add PWM/PI to windows, but we have problems compiling the used crypto lib on windows. It contains a lot of linux specific code.

bugs & RFE pimpi.
- Kopi bug: lots of Global options subtabs have fit problems.
- Kopi bug: weekview button always shows todo's and date picker when switching from todo view, but not from other agenda view
- Kopi bug: left hand column long tap shows wrong context menu in todo view. This one is old and seems pretty hard to reproduce. It seems to get worse when you have a lot of todo items and the vertical scrollbar appears.
- Kopi bug: column long tap shows wrong context menu at leftmost side of todo view.
- Kopi bug: new todo window's OK and Cancel button don't fit and get shoved under
taskbar. - Kopi bug: help text doesn't line-wrap
- the key + colors help window has the wrong window title, and the items qre not really ordered properly.
- Kopi bug: "UNEXSPECTED" (unexpected) in KDE-Pim/Pi Howto
- auto saving help window's text cannot be selected. also it's a popup while all other windows are text info. the info is also outdated/wrong (autosaving delay is now user-configurable)
- Kopi bug: "toggle allday" menu item needs to be moved to "View" menu.
- Kopi bug: Cancel button doesn't close search window.
- Kopi bug: Ctrl+S doesn't create sub-todo in todo view.
Zaurix and Ulf, do you have any comments before I put those bugs in the tracking system?

Does pwmanager support Chinese character?
The Chinese character I import to pwmanager can not display correctly.
And when I new a entry and input some Chinese character and click OK, it seems that they are disappeared.
The version I used is 1.9.15
BTW, except the Chinese character issue, the pwmanager is very very good and I love it at the first glance!
-
And It seems there are problems within OM/PI for handling Chinese characters:
I compose a new mail and input some English and Chinese characters, and send out,
it seems all OK, and the mail received in other place also display them well.
But when open the mail in sent item mailbox(in OM/PI), the Chinese characters all gone,
only English characters left.
Any advice?
EDIT:
The version I used is 1.9.15, and the machine i owned is SL-6000L(It can input and display
Chinese characters in other program such as text editor)

Quick Q:
OpieMail/Pi - really fast, but it shows some emails as just blank. It seems to be the fancy HTML emails.
Is there a quick fix for this?
-
Hmm, I guess OpieMail just has prolems? Or it is just me.
Is there any way to change the location where the Calendar file is located? I found where to direct the address book file, but not the calendar.
I guess I could use a symlink . . .
BTW, I'm really liking this app!
-
OpieMail/Pi - really fast, but it shows some emails as just blank. It seems to be the fancy HTML emails.
I thought Opie-Mail supports all common e-mail content format types. Can you tell us more about these "fancy HTML" formats? Is it the typical HTML format used by most e-mail programs or is there something different about them? I'd imagine that Opie doesn't have the HTML scripting support that full blown e-mails have and therefor may not "render at runtime" as well on script-rich HTML e-mails like other e-mail programs.
Does that sound correct?
I also have my own questions below:- Where is the "data" aspect of om/pi (e-mail) and the opie addressbook stored? (Which directory and files?... I need to know this so that I can backup/restore the data as needed)
- Will the Opie apps get "confused" if I switch the installation locations? For example: first I installed it in my internal memory, but now I want to install it on my SD card.
- Will it work to have some of the Opie apps in Internal memory and some on an SD card? Will they still be able to find each other as needed?
- If I install Opie Mail and Opie Addressbook on my SD card, will the other apps (installed internally) still work during those times when the SD is removed?
I want Opie Mail on my (MS-DOS formatted) SD card so that I can store more e-mail (not enough room in internal memory). I also want the e-mail program and the addressbook on the SD card so that I can put the SD card in my laptop and backup the Opie data every now and then.
I'm planning on having my Opie mail become my only e-mail program.
Does anyone see any problems/issues with this approach?
Thanks in advance.

Heeeey, found a new bug.
If you have the Z in portrait mode with Kopi fastloaded, and you change the orientation while rebooting, kopi shows up at the start in the wrong orientation. A double oreientation toggle fixes it (so it's a minor thing really).
-

There are still bugs with non latin1 chars in OM/Pi.
I will try to fix them, but I do not know when it will be fixed.

Is there a quick fix for this?
Yes, I know that problem of the blank mails.
I will look at this and try to fix it.
There is something really odd ... no idea how long it will take to find and fix the problems.
It has to do with wrong character encoding/decoding.

Question about the KO/pi Alarm applet.
How/when does it "read" the file and set up alarms? Is there any log?
I "sync" my Z by copying over my mycalendar.ics file from my desktop to my Z. (I know this isn't "sync," but it gets the job done for me and is less work than using the "sync" process.)
However, it seems like sometimes the alarms work and sometimes they don't. I tried rebooting completly after a copy, but it is still inconsistent.
Is there something I need to do to get the alarm applet to "see" the ics file? Is there something about the desktop file that is different that causes the alarm applet to be confused?
Thanks for any pointers!

This is the first time I tried installing the OM/PI - the email component of KDE-PIM on my Zaurus.
I doenloaded the 1.9.15 version the latest one for all the apps and firstly un-installed the older ones and re-installed the new versions.
But while all other apps work fine - the OM/PI gives me this problem
1) on my C750 it works fine - i.e it starts up (thats all I tested)
2) on my 6000L, it just does not start up when I click on the icon.
This is even when installed on my internela memory (or even on SD).
The error message I get when I install OM/PI is ...
"this depends on other packages, please install them"
But I have already installed the kdemicrolibs as well ...
Edit : In starting ompi from the terminal, I get this message
"error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.7: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory"
-
Edit : In starting ompi from the terminal, I get this message
"error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.7: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory"
The error message tells you what's wrong: you are missing an SSL library.
You can get the openssl on the ZUG feed:
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/ (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/)
After you install it, it should start up just fine.
You have Cacko 1.22 on the C750, right?

Hi,
a new release 1.9.16 is available:
Info about the changes in new versions of KDE-Pim/Pi
********** VERSION 1.9.16 ************
KO/Pi:
Fixed search dialog size on Z 6000 (480x640 display).
Added setting to hide/show time in agenda items.
Added setting to hide not running todos in todo view.
Added columns for start date/time in todo view.
Replaced the solid half-hour lines in agenda view by dot lines.
Added possibility of printing the What's Next View on the desktop
(i.e. Windows and Linux).
Fixed a crash in KO/Pi when starting KO/Pi with What's Next view.
Added tooltips in month view.(Tooltips only available on desktop)
Fixed a strange problem in KO/Pi alarm applet.
Did not find the actual problem,
such that now Qtopia reboots again if deinstalling the alarm applet.
But the alarm applet should work again.
KA/Pi:
Fixed the problem, that internal pictures were not saved.
Fixed a problem in the pi-sync mode by increasing the timeout for data transfer from 20 seconds to 5 minutes.
Fixed some minor problems. (Like word wrap in help text windows).
Fixed a compiling problem in microkde/kresources.
KO/Pi is using zdbat (renamed to db2file) for syncing with Sharp DTM.
This version now includes zdbat 1.0.0 (old version was zdbat 0.2.9)
such that now syncing KO/Pi with Sharp DTM should work on the
Zaurus C 3000 model.
You can find the general release notes here:

The /pi suite marches on... zautrix remains very busy!
I've been trying out OM/pi lately and am very impressed with the features, but the stability has been a bit of a problem for me, with a few random crashes and some quirky behaviors. Since i'm using IMAP it's not too big of a concern (i'm not likely to lose any mails), but i was wondering if you consider the address and calendar and todo /pi replacements to be at a stable release state. The reliability of keeping my four years worth of PIM data is kind of high priority for me!
I'm definitely ready to ditch the default PIM apps. The other question i have after monitoring the progress of /pi, is where does syncing come in now. I.e. how is it accomplished, and with what programs. I believe it requires an export to dtm on the z, followed by a sync using the inbuilt sync mechanism, followed by an update on the z /pi side to get the data back from dtm. Is that correct?
Thanks for your help.
-
Hurray for Zautrix. Will report bugs as I find them. Can't say I use anything else than Kopi very intensively, so most of my finds will probably stay there.
in .15, the contact-pick screen in O/mail didn't rotate for portrait mode, which might aggravate sl-6000 users

It would be great, if you could give me some more infos about the crashes, but because they are random, it would be difficult, of course...
but i was wondering if you consider the address and calendar and todo /pi replacements to be at a stable release state. The reliability of keeping my four years worth of PIM data is kind of high priority for me!
Yes address and calendar should be stable.
But you need to make a backup from time to time, because your whole device may crash, of course. It is never a good idea to have the pim data on only one device.

Yes, but to be precice: You have to make a sync.
followed by a sync using the inbuilt sync mechanism, followed by an update on the z /pi side to get the data back from dtm. Is that correct?
Yes, then you have synced with Outlook.
But you can sync with KDE or with KO/Pi on Windows as well.
I will try to implement a KO/Pi on Windows <-> Outlook sync this year such that KO/Pi on the Z can be synced with Outlook via KO/Pi on Windows.
If we have the KO/Pi on Windows <-> Outlook sync
we would have a KDE <-> Outlook via KO/Pi on Windows and KO/Pi on Linux, which would be a really cool feature.

Thanks for the answers. The crashes in the mail client were mostly when i was trying to set things up, but i think pushing "reply" while displaying the text of an attachment frequently crashes. I wonder why it is that embedded messages don't show up. They work fine in kmail and most other mail clients i try. As a mailing list moderator i constantly read attachments, and that's why i have so much experienxe crashing it from the attachment display....
I actually don't use Outlook at all. Until recently my PIM has been my PalmOS device, but now i want to use my Z, but need to have access on the computer sometimes. So if i install PIM/pi on my linux box (or use Kontact/Korganizer) as well as the z, is there a way to sync them directly without the in-between steps?
Also, is there a way to import or combine one dtm data file into another? I managed to import my Palm data into Qtopia for Windows, and would like to take those data files and merge the data into the existing pim data on my z, but i can't get it to sync with windows at all.

Me too! ;-)
That bug I want to fix before the 2.0.0 release.
But I have currently no idea how difficult it will be.

Yes.
If you install PIM/pi on your Linux box, you can sync the Z directly with the PIM/pi apps on Linux. And you can sync it with the KDE-Pim data using the PIM/pi apps.
Please read the sync HowTos in the KO/Pi help menu.
Also, is there a way to import or combine one dtm data file into another? I managed to import my Palm data into Qtopia for Windows, and would like to take those data files and merge the data into the existing pim data on my z, but i can't get it to sync with windows at all.
The new DTM does not sync with Qtopia for Windows, only with Outlook.
Maybe you can export your Palm data as *.vcs ( appointments) and *.vcf (addresses).
This could be imported into KO/Pi - KA/Pi.

Flandry, could you repost in the new thread please? I wanted to close this one earlier but couldn't get in touch with Zautrix. If you could just copy your post, that'd be great.
I'm closing this thread now, please use the new one (it's pinned so you can't miss it)
