I\'m staring at the screen, watching the download\'s progress.  I\'ll be flashing the moment it\'s complete.

Every new release seems to resolve a few more of the little things that have annoyed me about Qtopia.

Been molesting it for several hours and it\'s still running fine.

I\'ll be happy when this portion of Sash\'s project is complete, as I redo my complete setup from scratch every time he releases a ROM, rather than trying to restore from the previous ROM\'s backup.

Someone knowledgeable needs to IPK a working version of ethereal and nmap, or even better, bundle them in the ROM along with with tcpdump, dig and smb server/client.  =)

It all looks really good so far.

One problem I have is that doom runs upside down.

The same version worked fine on the tkcrom 2.5.1 with the javaboy kernel.

back to the testing.

OK, ever since I\'ve run cacko X11, cacko 1.18 and these later updates I\'ve had intermittent issues with the touchscreen not responding to the stylus.  Formatting the user partition fixes it.  Restoring from backup doesn\'t fix it, even from a backup done prior to installing any applications.

Ideas?

Flashed the rom, restored my data and now not have any keyboard... I think must reflash, save the keyboards and then restore my data. Try later, perhaps tomorrow...

Syncro: I not have access to japanese directory in the CD where must be the Intellisync application. In my CD the name appears as \"_____\" and not exist...

Any chance to have intellisync for 860 in english, french or spanish ????

Other posibility over wlan ????

Ooops

ALL THE WORK FROM CACKO IS GREAT !!!!!

I had installed the thcrom initially and have been using the sharp movie player (which is awesom!!).  for some reason on the tkcrom the movieplayer did not have the bar at the bottom to ff/rew etc and can crash when you use the hardware keys to ff/rew.

Sync over wifi works great, I cannot try the usb drive bit yet as I don\'t have a usb cable yet.

I will definately be sticking with this for now.

Thanks,
Peter.

use it to view this page which does have the sdl on it.

ah, ok, the 1.2.5 version... people seem to say this works better.

Did you try the SDL rotate 180? I wonder if that would be any slower.

Scott
ps: when I got doom working, mine was upside down too.
pps:  any luck with xu4 or exult?

I couldn\'t remember how to do it .

When I tried it on the 5500 so I could use my right hand for the keyboard, it did slow a little, but hardly noticeable.

maxmame just put garbage on the display using the 1.2.6, but worked ok with the 1.2.5, then I tried doom again and it was the right way round   .

xu4 error\'s with the following on 1.2.5

Code: [Select]
# u4

QPaintDevice: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice

Aborted

With the 1.2.6 I get the same corruption as I did with maxmame.

It works on my 5500 with 1.2.6.

I can\'t try exult as I don\'t have the files anymore.
I remember completing this on my old 386 many years ago.

Just got round to giving it a go and can confirm that the built in pretech bluetooth works fine with my Socket CF card.   8)

Not quite sure why but under system info I\'m showing only 5 mb spare sytem memory with over 34 mb used up by cache and this straight after a reboot (I\'ve got a 760)  :?

As mentioned by mk500 Yep no more low signal strength.

I presume I can install it on my C700 ?
Maybe a dumb question, but which directories should I backup in order to safe my data from my TKC-Apps

Richard,

Unix does not waste memory like some operating systems.

If you have any free mem, it will be used to cache your filesystems.

Any memory shown as \"cache\" is doing the above and is effectively free ram.

If you need to use it, the cache will be discarded and the memory used for user/program space instead.

Basically 34mb cache + 5mb free ram = 39mb useable for programs.

Why have memory doing nothing?

ROB.
Yes you can install it on a c700 (twice if you really need to  ), although I have never tried this (don\'t have one).

Backup everything under /home using tar to a cf/sd card.
Also, in case of problems, take a nand backup first. (full system backup, see the how to sections on this site)

Generally I never restore apps this way, I always re-install the applications from their ipkg files.  Any userdata I have (mp3\'s pics, source code, docs, spreadsheets etc) I always store on my sd card anyway, this is backed up seperatley via rdist.

Peter.

O]K] thanks as you guessed I\'m fairly new to Linux (love and hate it at the same time) it was just that out of all the roms (and I have tried them all) this is the only one that has taken up this amount of memory from a clean boot. Normaly I have 30 + mb described as free (even if free = cache + free) and 16 mb or so as cached.

Check the applications (mainly the pims apps) for fast load settings.

Tap and hold the icon untill you get another screen.  If the fast load box has a tick in it then the application is pre-loaded into ram so it will consume memory, but will start instantly when required.

Unchecking all the fast load options on the latest cacko rom gives me :-
cache 34mb free 9.5mb = 43.5mb on a reboot.

Personally I use the pims a lot and prefer having fast load set on.
If you don\'t use them then turn this off!

Memory only becomes a problem when you have none left.
On my 5500 only a few apps ran out of ram, qpegps with 2500 map files at 1280x10324 on sd, Quake, freeciv and compiling a few source code packages(most worked ok)

The 5500 only had 32mb of ram and I got round this by adding 8mb of swap in the usr ram space.

I have yet to run out of ram on the c760 with any rom.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for thoughts but I knew this already. Your comment about fast loads for pimms is this set as default on the new cacko rom (I can\'t check I\'ve taken it off) as this is not the std Sharp setup? it would explain why so much cache is taken up.

Unless I am very mistaken, the cacko rom seems to default to setting fast load for the pims. which imho is correct as most people will not need the extra ram.

My figures were after disabling all of them, but after adding many other apps.

I have since re-enabled the calender and address book pims (as I use these a lot) leaving todo off, and my memory has gone down to 34mb cache and 6mb free, straight after a reboot.

The previous figures where after disabling all fast loads and reboot, when I first looked they were similar to yours, ie 34mb+5mb.

So I imagine your fastloads are turned on.

A clean cacko install adds the pims.

Peter.

Can\'t comment on the new Cacko rom but fast load wasn\'t enabled on the 1.17 / 1.18 roms and the memory stats were simmiler to other roms.

Hi!

This may be a dumb question, but how do you access the CTRL key? In the X11 rom it was with the \'Calendar\' key but that does not seem to work anymore.
Also, how do you access the functions key (F1, F2, F3... F12)? My guess would have been the Fn key + the number, but this too does not work.

Alternatively, how do you add those keys definitions (CTRL, ALT, FN) in a keyboard file? (I would like to try to have a french keyboard, and I have a few hours to spare...)

Thanks!

pat

I seem to be having an issue with this custom cacko rom, it\'s a minor one though.  it seems that after the screensaver comes on, it seems to crash to a black screen with white garbly gook text... then qtopia restarts.  this doesnt happen every time, but it does happen frequently.

has anyone else experienced this?

I have been using this rom since the day it came out and have not seen this problem once.

I did somehow manage to set the clock back into Japanese mode, a reboot cured it thankfully.

Michael (offroadgeek), you\'re not the only one

I\'ve told Sashz many details on it but he hasn\'t seen that kinda crash, it happens when the screensaver activates, most commonly on Battery power. It happens to me the most when I\'m listening to MP3\'s with the Music Player. I found a way to disable the screen (or rather set it so it doesn\'t come on for 12 hours). Here is the mini-howto I wrote, I\'ve just copied and pasted it:

Launch a terminal window or SSH in and make sure you\'re SU\'ed and do the following:
Code: [Select]
cd /home/zaurus/Settings/

chmod 666 qpe.conf

vi qpe.conf

Then use the down arrow to scroll down to the Screensaver section and highlight the first number after \"Interval_AC_ScreenSaver = \" and press shift+r and type in 43200 and then press escape.
Then highlight the first number after \"blank = \" and press r by itself and then 1 and then escape.
Then type in :wq and press enter. This should then be followed by \"chmod 644 qpe.conf\" when the bash shell returns.

Please note that this is only a temporary solution while the Cacko team figure out how to fix this bug. You will also need to restart Qtopia after doing this, you can do this by going to the settings tab and then clicking on Shutdown.

Post by: bluedevils on February 03, 2004, 10:00:58 am
why can\'t you just put screensaver time to be zero in qpe.conf?  I do it and the screensaver is disabled unless I change power settings with the gui.  I rarely change power settings since the 760 has hard keys for brightness

All layouts have Euro char:
Fn + 5

keyboard layout files placed in directory:
~/Applications/cyrillica/

How is this done?  I cannot seem to find any reference to it in the ~/Applications/cyrillica/ directory.  All the other changes seem to be in there?

I would like to reverse this as I have no need for the euro sign, but a couple of apps that use fnc+5 don\'t recognise the keypress (qkonsole for one).

Peter.

PS offraodgeek/foxdie, I am just wondering if the reason the screensaver bug has not affected me after many days of use, is possibly due to the fact that I changed it to run as root instead of zaurus pretty much immediately after flashing.
