Title: Looking For A Good Hardware Combinaison
Post by: pldrouin on December 07, 2004, 10:16:42 pm
I just bought a SL-6000L (418$ brand new not refurbished on Ebay, I think this is not a bad price) and I'm looking for a good combinaison of hardware. I would like to use one slot for memory and the other for other devices (ethernet card, cell phone card, etc). It looks like most devices are made for CF slots and not for SD slots, am I right? I would like to get a 1GB memory card to change the ROM on my Z. So here are my questions:

-Are devices like ethernet card cell phone card, cameras, etc mostly made for CF slots?
-Is it possible to change the ROM using both CF or SD memory cards?

You are correct, most peripherals run from the CF slot.  For the ROM flasing you need to do that from the CF slot as well.

It sounds like you should investigate the purchase of an expansion sleeve for an extra battery and another CF slot.

ok thanks

So I have two new questions:

-What is the maximum amount of memory needed on a CF card to flash a ROM, 64MB?
-Will a high speed SD card (Lexar 32x) be faster on a Z or the data transfer rate is limited by the Z itself?

Hey,

as far as i know, you didn't need a CF-Card for Flashing. You could also flash from a sd-card via Service-Menu.
I don't know exactly but on my old SL-5500 were no speed increasments from fast sd-cards. But it could be that there is a new SD-Controller in the SL-6000 which support higher Speed.
Till now no SDIO (Devices in SD-Slot) driver is available for the SL-6000 so no devices could be used through sd-slot.

I hope i could help and you understand my english ;-)

thank you

Does someone know the maximum data rate that a Zaurus 6000L is able to transfer via the CF and via the SD slot?
