Does the 6K provide good sound as an MP3 player. What codecs does it support?
Thanks,

It provides sound.
I think the sound is optimized for phone conversations and recording. It is a little top heavy and not so bottom heavy. Perfect for classical music I bet.
(However I expect that compared to my home setup with AKG K-240s and an EQ. The JavoEBuds I use I also don't expect too much as far as sound quality goes. I doubt a high end headphone will work well with the 6000.)
I use the tkcPlayer, which supports OGG and MP3. I think its a fine add on for the 6000 (music on the go) but your 6000 won't replace a dedicated player that's of better quality. If tkcPlayer or another music player got a EQ, maybe there's a chance.

as much as i love the 6k, i've got to call it's mp3 player performance crappy at best due to the headset-sized jack. there's really no way to get around how inconvenient that thing is. it's definitely designed with voip in mind, which is curious, because it doesn't include software for this, or even mention in the manual that the sound jack is actually a mic/headphone combo jack.

Thanks for the replies. I do have an iHP-120 Player and love it. But I was just tossing around the idea of putting some music on the 6K in the interest of carrying less gadgets. Sounds like I'd be better off using the money I'd spend to put enough storage on the 6K to carry music around on it, for something else.

I have to say that I'm pleased with the Z as a mp3 player.. except, of course, it's ENORMOUS by comparison.
But, I don't listen to music at the gym, so it's fine.
I often use mine with just the built-in speaker ala transistor radio.
Or, I connect to a samba share and then have all my mp3s on my desktop/server available to the Z wirelessly.
When I do use headphones (see this thread for 2.5 -> 3.5mm adapters (http://https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8349&st=0)) I find the clarity to be great and can pick out parts of the mix that I don't typically hear thru regular speakers.
I suppose this is all subjective, but no complaints here.... just don't take your Z on the treadmill and drop it (even though it should be able to survive the fall.. I've read nothing about it surviving being stepped on)
