I just inherited a SL-5000 (SL-5000D I guess - the model # on the back just says "SL-5000")
Apparently it has Sharp ROM version 1.38 (it says ROM Version 1.38 under "Linux Kernel" in the Version tab of System Info.
Since Sharp seems to have stricken the SL-5000 from their records, I'm kind of at a loss as to which "official" Sharp rom is the latest for this device. I noticed that there are some Sharp roms hosted here on the ZUG site but most of them don't specify which device they work for (the ones farther down the page).
So that's a question. Now, I'd like to try openZaurus, and other roms, but I know that what I've currently got works, i.e., with my wifi card and assorted programs that currently work. I've dd'ed /dev/mtdblock0 to a file, so I have the initrd, but I haven't seen anything that tells me how to back up the zImage, or how to reconstruct a flashable 1.38 rom from my current setup. Maybe it's not worth it to go down this path, but I haven't found a 1.38 ospack anywhere for download. (or anything later that I had any confidence would be "compatible")
Any help/guidance/advice? Thanks!

To start, the last rom for the 5000 was 1.39. I think I might have a copy. Email me at chayim at gnupower dot net if you're interested.
At any rate, I archive *every* rom I download just in case. I've got all the sharp roms I've ever used, plus I'm got the OZ ones going back to 3.3.5 (except for 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 since I never used them).
Personally, I use OZ 3.3.5 and am *very* happy with it. I've never had the urge to upgrade to 3.5.2, but that's because I'm replacing my 5k with the new C3k later on.
You don't have to worry about backing up the zImage if you email me. I wouldn't fry anything beforehand, but I'll double check that I have all the ROMs archived.

The Zug has a mirror of the sl-5000 roms:
