Title: Moving To Sd With Oz>3.5.1
Post by: pframpton on December 21, 2004, 10:24:32 am
I'm moving from 3.3.5 to 3.5.2, why has the recommended (OE wiki) method for putting system files on SD changed?

I use to copy /etc, /home and /root  as well as the directory programs are install to onto my SD card. Now the instructions show how to move the whole filesystem to the SD card.  I can't find the instructions for 3.3.5 and I wondered which directories I should move if I only want to transfer config files, home directories and the location of new programs.

Why would you recommend moving /bin, /sbin, /lib and so on.... to the SD card?

No!

In fact I'd move nothing, just un-install some packages which come with the ROM and re-install them to card.

Certainly don't move /bin, /etc, /lib, /sbin (as they are needed before the card is mounted after a suspend).

I'm having more issues now. I don't have internet access on my Z so I downloaded the whole of /feeds to a CD card and configured Package manager to use file:///mnt/cf/opie ..... (and so on)  now when I try and install a package OPIE crashes and I'm left at the "login:" on VT1. Any ideas? I've installed the system-upgrade 1.

If your using the SD-card for a feed it should be:
scr  opie file:///mnt/card/opie/
etc., for every directory on your card used for a feed.

Open with text editor or terminal:
/etc/ipkg.conf
and check for the lines before you open package manager, the service upgrade ipk changes some settings in conf.

Thanks, it turned out that the problem was all the IPKs were corrupted during the download to my work machine and the transfer to the windoze box I'm on now. Got it okay now, thanks.
