Title: Zsi2 Tie-breaker Vote
Post by: dz on December 21, 2004, 04:59:32 pm: The original zsi2 layout contest ended in a tie. In order to remedy this, I have taken the two guys tied for #1 and given them their own poll. To be able to get everything done on time though, the poll will only last until Friday, December 24th at around midnightish (I say around because I will be in Florida on vacation and I gotta find internet at that hour)

The final results from the last contest are:

[ 8 ] - Chaos
[ 7 ] - network.guy
[ 5 ] - dz
[ 4 ] - Doc
[ 3 ] - Current ELSI Layout

Remember to post which layout you are voting for since they each have more than one layout. You just need to post the name of the file or the name of the layout, and not the actual layout itself.

I think that this poll is a bit flawed. As both yznord and skoopie have multiple entries, perhaps there should have been an option to vote for the individual layouts (yznord.gif, yznord.jpg, skoopie smooth metal, skoopie orange funk, etc).

I know that dz said to post the name of the layout along with the vote, but so far only a couple of people have done so. After this voting round is over, will there need to be yet another round to decide which of the winner's entries to use?

The way the poll is structured might be "flawed"... but it's actually a lot better than listing all the variants and having them voted on directly.

That could lead to a situation where 56% of people vote for Skoopie (say), but it was split evenly between Orange and Blue - then Yzord could still win if all his votes went to the one theme (heck, he'd only need one of his themes to do slightly better than the other.) And then the majority would be stuck with the theme they liked less - just because the other side concentrated their votes.

Best to vote on which style is preferred, then the specifics can be nutted out later

(I know I used Skoopie as the underdog here... but with the number of different Yzord entries he would probably be more at risk of a split vote. And this all only applies because each set of themes are so similar - if each theme was markedly different from the others than I'd definitely prefer a direct vote as well. )

Post by: schip2mylou on December 22, 2004, 09:23:08 am: I prefer the Skoopie "Orange Funk" layout because it's less graphics intense (will load faster) than the entry by the other and as a whole all the Skoopie entries also look more adaptable to the change in name.

The yzord entries are OK, but since they're entirely based on the letter "Z" which won't be the theme of the new index, well, they're pretty much moot.

I guess wouldnt be hard technology-wise

If it is not an option, I would vote for skoopie's Smooth Metal and the orange for small screens

I think many of them were really good.
I personally prefer minimalistic interfaces -- I dislike
php (phpbbs, phpwiki, etc) ...

If I had to pick just one, sure, yz.
