Hi,
Anyone got ASUS Wireless CF Card working in RC8? My card can load the driver (from dmesg) but failed to get an IP address from DHCP. I tried use static IP but still cannot ping the gateway. There is no route setup.
My card works find in RC5. What is the problem? I have to switch back to RC5 now. Thanks.
Best regards,
Jacky
-
possible fix for you:
stop the card, remove it and put it back in.
mine didn't work until i did that, even after putting in the wep key and such.

I installed linux-wlan-ng driver from chrisd.
However, I still cannot get the dhcpcd work properly. I tried static IP again and the route table setup properly. Unfortunately, I still cannot get it working. The Wifi applet show the signal strength of my wireless network but I cannot access it.
Please please help me. It works in RC5!
Best regards,
Jacky
EDIT: Finally, I can setup my wifi network if I disable WEP completely. I found the following errors in my console when I insert my card:
cardmgr[130]: + Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) "
cardmgr[130]: + SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
cardmgr[130]: + Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) "
cardmgr[130]: + SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
cardmgr[130]: + Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) "
cardmgr[130]: + SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
Then, I uninstall linux-wlan-ng and reboot. The wireless works fine (with orinoco driver). However, I need WEP support. I want to get it back.
I enable WEP again (with orinoco) and I found that the following error:
eth0: Error -110 setting multicast list.
eht0: New link status: Connected (0001)
I can get the same error message if I run "/sbin/dhcpcd -N eth0". I think this is the problem. Anyone tell me how to solve it.
-
I don't think the linux-wlan-ng driver is needed - just try and inserting card and using config tool to setup network.
Maybe also post cardctl ident output, cardctl status after the above and let us see..
-
Hi,
Here is the output of cardctl ident:
Socket 0:
product info: "ASUS", "802_11B_CF_CARD_25", "Version 01.00", ""
manfid: 0x02aa, 0x0002
function: 6 (network)
The network connection works if WEP is disabled.
I just found that the "eth0: Error -110 setting multicast list." will generate even if I disabled WEP (so is the error message not an error?).
Thank you very much.

OK if needed the torrents are up (lets see how long my server stays up).

Please leave your downloader running torrents work best when
we all work together.

Hi,
I seem to have the same problem.
"iwconfig" says the wep-key is empty ?!
I tried the lan utulity several times, iwconfig doesn't show me a wep key
Cheers,
Chero
-
Hi again,
problem solved :
I manually changed the file "/etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts
it's quite obvious what to put where.
Now it works with encryption.
Cheers,
Chero
BTW : the new rom is great !!
-
I also got problems with my wireless CF. Somehow, the profile from the 'Lan & WiFi' utility was not written to /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts, so, when I inserted the card, 'iwconfig' was showing no ESSID or WEP key configured at all. I had to put all this manually into /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts -- only then it worked. At the same time, same stuff worked nice with RC5. My configuration involves setting ESSID, WEP key and auth type = Restricted. Everything else is set to be automatic, and the type of profile is 'Wireless', of course.
Other problem: I tried to change jog wheel behaviour from 'left-right' to 'up-down', but without any luck -- each time I restarted X, the jog wheel behaviour was still 'left-right', with the Input GUI showing the same 'left-right' option, as if I never changed it at all. So I had to modify /etc/X11/kb/userdefined.xmodmap manually.
And the last thing I stumbled upon so far: while the multi-select capability in the package manager is obviously useful, it is very easy to accidentially select some more packages than needed. I once ended up installing apache2, along with some wanted packages, without any need of it. I would suggest asking for a confirmation with a list of the packages to be installed.

Same here
-
I don't understand the problem with wireless utility not writing /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts. Are you guys sure you selected wireless in profile page - it writes everything okay on my Zaurus.
Edit: Found the error - its only related to the default profile, make a new profile or wait for new ipk updates.
The jogwheel and other keyboard mapping problems will be fixed asap - there will soon be a new ipk available and other fixes.
-
It has the same bug which was long ago: on 700 z coursor "dance" around the stylus.( Plz, fix it as far as you can, flash is just unusable.(
P.S. Of course, i tried to recalibrate it.
P.P.S. Sorry for my english.

BlackNight:
I have the new ROM installed on a 700 and haven't come across this ... it seems pretty solid on mine - no screen flicker either.

Hmmm... It's strange.

hi!
i don't know if there are solutions on older rom threads, 'cause on rc5 i first used a buffalo wlan card and later the dlink dcf-660w... on rc5 wlan works fine... so sorry if i ask very old questions...
i can't get my dlink working, cardctl reported it as Sandisk Connect SDWC 000, i can't get an ip on dhcp, with given ip i can't get a route... network unreachable...
as i remember, the dlink works on rc5 with wlan-ng, which is replaced by hostap, if i don't fault...
laze says in this thread it isn't necassary to use the wlan-ng, but creating a new profile doesn't lead to a solution too...
i'm using wep...
has anyone a hint for me?
btw: thanx for the very hard work to all developers!!! thanx for creating a desktop-oriented gui which is the very best for pda's with higher screen resolutions!
Is there a way to make a donation from germany without credit card?
thanx,
titus

There is a bug which made Lan & Wifi configuration program failed to set ESSID and WEP in wireless.opts of the default profile. Try create new profile for your wireless network.
-
for me, I can't seem to get the middle mouse button to work.
I tried setting it to the left kanji button, no go.
I tried setting it to the mail button, no go.
mail seems to always be "escape" no matter what I do.
it worked on my 700, but not on my 760.
I'm sure it's just me, but it seems like the rom uses more ram on the 760 :-/

hi chero,
yep... that was it... the wep-key hadn't been written to default entry of wireless.opts
but i wonder why the newly created profile, who has the key in the wireless.opts, doesn't works...
but now the default profile is working fine, thank you for your hint!

Woo hoo RC8... i actually just downloaded it over 28k... (I do miss the 135Meg link at college!).
Got a bug it seems... The Input Setup dialog doesn't hold the changes to the jog wheel.
Happy Christmas all!
-
The bugs with input and wireless config have been fixed and will be released as ipk fixes asap.

Hi!
I'm enjoying the new release emmercely, but I noticed that when I use the screen blank icon(on right side of taskbar), my remote control(CE-RH1) stopped to act with xmms.
When I close my zaurus and elapse the system's "Screen off after" time, I can use the remote, so maybe the remote control input is disabled when the screen is blanked with the icon.
Also, my friend told me that he had problem mounting 45MB root partition on his C750, so he's using the kernel for C760. If anyone has clue about this, I'd be grateful.
thanks for your time.

Update:
The below procedure requires you to have a working internet connection on your Zaurus.
Please setup the package manager to use the http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/ (http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/) feed and then exit GUI (matchbox).
Do a "ipkg update" and the a "ipkg upgrade" (make sure you have AC adapter plugged in just to be safe).
This should fix:
- xmms controller and remote problems with screen blanker
- keyboard mapping problems
- ntpd script hanging at reboot
- problem with setting wifi key on "default" profile
- some SD card related problems
- default feed is corrected
If you don't have a working internet connection on you Zaurus you should download and install the following:
http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/datenti...-1_armv5tel.ipk (http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/datentime_1.0.6-1_armv5tel.ipk)

Notice: Doing the update might overwrite your personal settings so its a good idea to copy the content of the Choices out from your home directory and then copy them back to keep the settings.
You might also see some output about IRQ or similar when installing SD Card, just ignore this.
The entire ROM installable rom for flashing will be update in 10-12 hours so if you wich you can do a clean flash instead of updating.
If you have any problems with the updating please post here - the feed was updated kinda in a hurry so stuff might be broken.
-
Laze,
Will this upcoming update (10-12 hrs) also have fix for trendnet ethernet card (I hope it's not too late to add that as it seems simple - see other thread about this card)?
Thanks to the pdaxrom team for great work - looking at the relatively short amount of outstanding issues and not much complaining it seems like you are nicely converging towards stable 1.0.
-
Im adding this now..

Deleted by Laze - sorry!

Hi!
I have some bug this PackageManager It's don't display ipks installed to /mnt/card, but apps existed at the card and i can run it
Any ideas?
-
> Im adding [trendnet wired ethernet support] now..
You might also add the Symbol LA-4137 "Wireless Networker" if you haven't already... relevant info is posted in my recent thread.
Any idea when Ratoc USB support will be added?
Thanks!
-
g33k: sorry didn't see your post - it will be added ASAP..

Install instructions
...
Select option 4 (flash/update).
You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)
press the button on the left with the 'Y' in it
Choose either option 2 or 3, depending on which media you put the files on.
the pdaxrom installer is launched.

There's a small mistake:
"Choose either option 2 or 3, depending on which media you put the files on."
should come before "press the button on the left with the 'Y' in it".
also, it may be worth putting an alternative (thanks jerrybme) to getting into the service menu from a booted-up machine: it is much less fiddly than removing the battery, especially if you are using a PDair case!
"Kill the X-server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (possibly Calendar-Address-Backspace)
Type "reboot"
Press OK and either continue to hold it or press it and hold it once it says "Rebooting the system...""
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work reliably when rebooting from the installer (not figured out if it's finger trouble) so you don't gain anything if you need to do the 64MB fix and/or resize the root partition.

How do you get out of the screen blanker without rebooting the machine?

How do you get out of the screen blanker without rebooting the machine?
To unblank you simply tap the screen with your stylus. The purpose of the screen blanker is to block all keyboard input (unlike the standard "screensaver" which exits as soon as a key is pressed) and it also controls XMMS when you press OK/Cancel/jog-wheel.

hi, I have the same evil WiFi problems, I tried changing the wireless.opts file, it didn't fix my problem but it did change the way the light on my WiFi card flashes. I still cant ping any comps on my network though I can ping myself
I have the LA4100 Spectrum24 CF WLAN Card, if you know of a way to fix this quickly and easily is it not too late to include it in the update so I can do a full reflash?
Thanks

New updates available in IPK feed - do the ipkg update, ipkg upgrade as described in last update.
New fixes:
- symlink dies on reboot should no longer be a problem.
- more network card support as posted by g33k

Anyone have problems with sound? I suspend my Z 860, come back a few hours later, fire up XMS, and it says there is a problem regarding my soundcard. I exit and restart X but the same thing happens. If I reboot the entire Z, it works again.
-
Clock and time -
do time work in all cases, or does the clock "forgets itself" after suspend?
i thought i have read above some ambiguous bug report about clock dont get sync.
?
-
My XMMS complains about esound driver when i first load it after rebooting. Pressing playing again after hitting ok (to get rid of dialog box) gets it going grand from then on. ..
One problem with XMMS that i would like to get around is to have the main volume control and the xmms volume control, working on the same audio channel. The xmms one works within the limits set by the volume control applet... Changing output device from esound to the oss doesn't help.
Last night i had the system crash a few times when i hit the power button to suspend... I tried shift-home today, and the power button works as it has always (haven't checked after reboot yet).
Lastly, there seems to be some problem where i loose all my applets on the taskbar on the right hand side of the screen... Haven't found out what causes it but it has happened a few times....
Loving Rox! It's great to have a file manager (apart from mc) at last. Anyone know of one around (or a way of configuring ROX) to give a tree view on the left hand side? If you haven't got a file manager get rox installed! Take a little time to setup mime-info, it's so great being able to click on a file and have dillo pop open, or xmms...
Lastly anyone know if theres a way to zoom text in Dillo?
-
xmms is running with esd sound because of problems with it working together with volume applet. But strangely sometimes xmms complains about it not running okay.
The problem with loosing the applet is when there is too little space for the applets in the bottom bar - then matchbox strangely removes the applets. This often happens when zooming in (running 320x24).. We are lookng into it.
-
thanks to the pdaXrom team for the new release. It made my christmas more than usual exciting.
A few random issues after a couple of days:
Running X as nonroot is still not fully functional: no sound availible - insuff. permissions for /dev/dsp apparently. Dillo is seq-faulting. Haven't explored further.
Aterm-applet sometimes produces a small empty window at the border of the display.
Right clicking with Fn not working on windows or panel but ok in mc
However this is banalities compared to the overall performance and functionality - keep up the good work!

When will all the updates be available in the main rom download for re-flashing?
I'm stuck without my WiFi card working, without WiFi I have no way of getting my Bluetooth card from working
On another note, is there any software out there that will let me scan for Bluetooth devices other than a DUN search for phones. It would be nice if I could connect to say another pda with Bluetooth, laptop, Bluetooth headset for wireless headphones.
My laptop can do it and it would be amazing if my pda could too
Thanks

Sorry fox, 99% of Bluetooth CF cards don't support any type of audio profile. This appears to be a hardware limitation of the cards.

All hardware related bugs should be posted in the thread for this (pinned in this forum).
Btw. following packages have been updated in feed:
Gaim 1.1.1
abiword 2.2.2
-
Laze,
there is a minor problem with the feed http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/ (http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/)
If I do the ipkg update, then ipkg upgrade tries to upgrade packagemanager!
Package: packagemanager
Priority: optional
Section: X11
Maintainer: Alexander Chukov <sash@pdaXrom.org>
Architecture: armv5tel
Version: 1.0.4-3
Depends: qt-mt, startup-notification
Description: ipkg QT X11 frontend
The file doesn't exist! There is instead http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/package....4_armv5tel.ipk (http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/packagemanager_1.0.4_armv5tel.ipk)
Please fix.
BTW Why is kopi Version: 178-1 in the feed ? Ain't the old version?
By mistake I installed it and messed up kdepim 1.9.5 ...

Hi,
I have a persistent problem with Rc8.
Whenever I change the date/time on my Z and do I suspend and subsequent wakeup from the GUI my keyboard and stylus input freezes.
After wakeup I see the clock being reset to the last systemtime *before* the date/time change.
System still runs afaict because if I wait long enough the clock gets updated.
I do not have NTPD running.
It happens if I change date/time with the 'date' command or the 'ntpdate' command.
It does not matter if I have my Wifi card inserted or not.
I have *all* updates installed which are available in the current feed.
Any ideas?

The package manager in the feed has been updated - sorry ... :-)

When X is running you can currently only change the date/time using the Date & Time application because it has to restart openbox afterwards (due to the way timing is handled in the matchbox applications and applets). Setting the time when X isn't running (i.e. from the console before you run startx) is fine. ntpd is also not affected because it doesn't "set" the clock it adjusts its speed to gently shift to the correct time (except in the ntpd script that runs at bootup, it "sets" the clock). If you need to periodically use date or ntpdate to set your clock then have a look in /usr/bin/datentime.py (lines 53-57) to see what it does after setting the clock.

And ... file access-times (& mtime) are currect?
Is it only the clock applet ?
How does it "refresh" with the "right time", or when ?

Matt
Sorry I did not mention this in the original post but I *did* change the date/time when X was not running (since I had some earlier problems changing the dat/time when it did).
I just tested changing time/date using the applet and I did not have any resume problems anymore:-)
Here's the funny part though:-/
if I set the time correctly using the applet, than exit the GUI and run ntpdate, start the GUI,
suspend and resume: everything OK;
if I set the time off by f.i. 30 minutes; exit the GUI, run ntpdate ..... ;clock gets set back to time I set using the applet and input freezes up again.
It seems to me there is some reproducible error here dependant on the timedifference between time set by the applet and time set by 'date' and/or 'ntpdate'.
I'll do some more tests with NTPD running as well (I removed that because in the beginning I had problems with that as well).
-
Hey, me again.
I got my WiFi and internet working on my Z and I couldn't be happier, this is a great ROM
But, I was wondering if there is an easy way to update all installed packages at once.
E.g..
You add a new button in Package Manager that when pressed will connect to the feed that you have set in the Settings tab and will compare version numbers from every package that you have installed to packages located in the feed. When it comes across a package in the feed with a newer version number to what's installed it will prompt you that there are updates available for 'list of packages installed' and will ask weather or not to install the newer versions.
Now I know nothing about programming for Linux so I have no idea how difficult such a function can be written but it would be a nice feature to have in one of the next Package Manager updates.
That's for the GUI Package Manager, I don't know if it can already be done from command line as I try not to bother with it, too much text for my simple mind hehe.
-
Wolfie_Fox: this can be done from command line with ipkg upgrade. The problem with doing it from the package manager is that it would "destroy" or kinda misbehave if you were updating some of the running elements like the GUI and packagemanager etc.
-
I tested with NTPD running and the effects are identical as with running ntpdate from the commandline.
At boot NTPD will sync my systemtime (if I have the Wifi inserted of course) but after I start up the GUI and suspend and attempt to wakeup the input is frozen again.
This all in case the systemtime is more than a few seconds off from the synced time (I guess it has to be minutes).
The problem here is that this makes NTPD essentially useless for me.
I my case it could easily be that the Z lies around suspended for more than a day and after so long a time the systemtime will be substantially off from 'real' (NTP synced) time when I wake it up.
Everytime this is the case NTPD would nicely sync the time at some point and at the next suspend/wakeup cycle my input would freeze again.
The datetime applet however manages to change the time without causing the freezing effect.
What's different here and could this method also be used with NTPD, date and ntpdate?
-
Good news! (at least for me)
I solved my own problem (for now).
Looking at datetime.py I found the difference in calling the applet to change time
compared to calling date or ntpdate are the commands 'sethwclock' and 'sltime -set'
issued by the applet after changing the time.
When I issued these commands manually after calling ntpdate my susepnd/wakeup
problems were gone as well!
I have now added these commands to my 'apm' script calling them the Z is going to suspend
(just before the 'suspend' command itself and this works!
I now can call ntpdate anytime I want (or have ntpd) update the time.
Is this something to add to the standard distrib or is it a little too crude?
-
mcorino - kinda crude - but maybe we will end up with this solution if we don't come up with a better..
Heck half the fun of using linux is solving the problems - if you wan't a running and 100% sleak desktop use Windows ;-)
-
lol
i did a vb project on pocketpc/winCE, and i assure you - not only it isn't 100% sleak; you just CANT solve the problems :-)

sleek is not code for crappy?
c'mon -- wind desktop is a joke...
aol aim? can't stop the advertisements...
can't move the window off the top. solution, find "sticky notes"
and paste, alwyas on top, over the gaim advertisements.
cant move windows off the top.
can't REALLY(easily) switch window behaviour, key strokes, and
previous, not really skinnable, etc.
bah bah bah, we don't need to get bogged down in advocacy, but
c'mon, there's no freedom and no choice. If you want sleek, you
HAVE to run non-windows. If you want spandex -- one size forced
to fit all, then by all means do windows.
Look at pdaxrom -- mb? sure... what about xfce4, etc.... just straight X?
you have a choice -- freedom of choise is where we ARE today, not
just where we want to go.

Hi all.
I've used pdaxrom 1.0.0 and 1.0.5 and Kathrin rc3(? maybe 5?) and had no real problems. With RC8 I get an "Oops: RO flash error" when installing it. I have a c860 and have tried from an SD card and a CF card, redownloaded the zip and checked it's md5 a few times. I have following Philo's install instructions exactly and always get this problem. I also tried changing the size of the root partition to 45,47,50,64,120 and 121mb, all give the same error. After the error, it does boot up, however it's missing /var and a good deal more (startx doesn't load TS calibration, or anything really). I've since reinstalled 1.0.5 and it had no problems. Has anyone else run into this problem ?
Thanks for all the effort, it is appreciated
-
if any of the c700 owners out there are having the weird cursor dance, use this to fix it (well it worked for me)
echo 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk
makes the whole thing rock solid & RC8 is just awesome ... incredible work guys !!!!
-

echo 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk
Thanks, that worked for my C700 as well. Do we know that just changed? This is the first pdaxrom that I've had the dancing cursor problem on.
-
nah, no idea on that ... laze would have to comment atleast it works even if it is alittle slower than normal
weird thing about it is that initially i could use other values ie. 95 but then that all stopped and 75 is the only usable one *sigh* ... unless i imagined it all

I too am having troulbe with getting my wifi to work using WEP. I have a Linksys WC12 card and rc8 with the latest upgrades. Still, no matter what i try i can not connect to my AP using WEP key. I had RC5 earlier in the day and it was working just fine. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!!
-
gene: I had that, I ended up having to use a WEP keyword instead of a hex key despite none of my other wifi devices letting me use a keyword, just one of those things I guess
Also, I'm having the input frozen after ntpdate then suspend, can someone issue details for a fix or can we have an ipk update? The only way I have found around it is to ssh in by wifi and kill X and restart it which is too crude for my liking.
-
Foxdie,
I got it working with a 64 bit WEP key but it still doesn't want to go with 128. Odd.......
UPDATE: I got it working with 128bit by reducing the seed keyword to 7 characters. I don't know how this would make a difference but apparently it did. Anyone have any idea as to how i turn on the power save mode for wifi. This thing eats batteries like crazy.
-
I could be wrong, but isn't that the equivalent of 64-bit or less security anyway (7 chars x 8 bits), so you're not gaining anything?

Did you try a hex key? I've been using 128 bit WEP hex keys since RC3 without problem (I started using hex keys back then because keywords didn't work)
Cheers,
Jerry
-
The seed is 7 characters long but the WEP key that is generated is a 26 character hex.
-
I'm having trouble switching wallpapers on RC8. I have save images as both png and jpeg files, but when I try to select them in the "Look & Feel" applet, there is no preview and the resulting change is a flat color background.
Anyone else having trouble with this?
-
Wow... this is my first experience with pdaXrom. I've been following it for the last 6 months, but have been holding my breath running a custom Debian/OZ hybrid.
YOU GUYS ROCK!
This is the most impressive thing I've ever seen on babygord (C760 )
Thanks for this *solid* release!
-
The seed is 7 characters long but the WEP key that is generated is a 26 character hex.
Yes, I understand that, but I presume that the number of unique WEP keys that can be generated is reduced proportionately, so someone who tries all those ones first will get in.
In practice, WEP is flawed anyway, so if your data is really confidential then you shouldn't be relying on it.
-

I also have a Linksys WCF12 and I don't have any trouble with 128-bit WEP. I also get good battery life when using it. I have however changed to the hostap driver instead of orinoco (the default). I have never used WEP with the orinoco driver. Hi Everybody,
wanted really really bad to test the new RC8, but i´m failing with flashing.
I can´t make a 50Meg´s-partition, only a max of 47MB on my C750.
If i use 47Meg, and Flash, i get an error just a few line´s after the
pdaXrom-pic saying:
"Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 1f:02"
I think he got out of Space during the flash, and that last line is
a result of this.
Any Ideas???

It worked
i really don´t understand why an installation with less space functions, and

Ok Folks,
i tested everything that was important for me and
a few points more with the final result:
This rom is great, looks great, and is really a few steps
faster than any Qtopia-Release i´ve seen so far.
But i have a few minor problems in using it:
- like mentioned further above, a german keyboard would be nice.
Or could anyone tell me where the config-file for the keyboard is
so that i could fix that myself? (didn´t find it so far)
- a few Windows open definitely to big. As an example, that´s no big problem
when you using abiword. There you can just maximize it, and it fits to the
screen.
But if you´re playing with the gtkboard, a lot of the Games are´nt playable
(like tetris) or hard to play.
And if maximizing the systemtool "QtConfig" you have to restart X, because
its maximizing far too big and you can´t close it.
The rest is functioning very well and very fast. And as a fact it´s the best looking
rom i´ve seen so far
Again, sorry for my english...
Nico
[EDIT] And how do i install packages from SD/CF? In the Packetmanager i can
view and click the packages, he shortly loads and then... nothin happens and
i´m back in the normal view of the Packetmanager.

Unfortunatelly gtkboard is "this big". You would need to rewrite the code of the games to be smaller.
You know that you can move windows if you try to grab and drag them anywhere while holding down the ALT (usually Address) button? It's not convenient but it's usable.

Yes i know that, but it´s a little bit odd to scroll i.e. tetris first up, look what
kind of stone comes done, scroll down, find a place for it and then wait until it
falls into the visible area (worst case scenario ).

Hi zumi,
please give me some more hints about the german keyboard. I changed my corgi-file in /etc/X11/kb, but whatever I put in, afterwards the fn-key didn't work at all. I found a file called de with german keyboard symbols changes, but I don't know exactly where to link the information. I would like to make a keyboard layout, which can be switched on instead of the russian mappings.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

hi folks !
i had tried quite a long time ago to launch a corgi.xmodmap file collection but it did not wok.
See : https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...8&hl=collection (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4538&hl=collection)
Maybe we should launch it once more and, why not, have some ipks availiable. I think Cacko rom has some thing like that... it would be very interesting for those who, like me, use their Z as a word processing tool !
see you !

Hey, I don't know what's wrong with the file editing. This is not a do-it-every-day-work that you can't do once...
It's not hard, you only have to mate the characters with words like grave, acute, circumflex, tilde, dieresis, ring, etc...
Look into these (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10014) xmodmap files (the Hungarian has a lot of special chars in it) to get the idea.

We will probally making the applet support scanning of a folder for extra keymaps and the swichting between them :-)

That would be nice

function (per packet manager), only with "ipkg install" in the shell?
What am i doing wrong???

now i also got the bigger partition
It isn´t that hard to achieve anyway... why don´t you said that earlier? *joke*
So even i got it now running very well with a lot more space available.

We will probally making the applet support scanning of a folder for extra keymaps and the swichting between them :-)
scannig for additional xmodmap files (and according national flags' PNGs) would be very appreciated!
i have made the czech keyboard files, for switching kbd mapping i use the original 'keyrus' applet (which is somehow dirty solution -- only two mappings can be "installed" simultaneously, original files are only replaced, however, no compilation is necessary.)
see also discussion at: Czech ZUG (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showforum=117) or pdaXrom C860 Czech keyboard mappings (http://ashpool.zine.cz/~pavel/zaurus_c860_cz_kbd/) (both in czech language)

>>To set the partition higher than 45MB, You must use C760's Kernel rather than C750's one.
I have managed to get x up and running using your great instructions for a c750, thanks!!
Hi, I am very much new to linux and cant decide between cacko or pdaxrom so am experimenting (cacko has been unstable with screen going off and rebooting).
Apologies if this is too newbie-ish but I am finding it difficult to navigate around like finding files on my sd and opening them in say xpdf. (Cacko seemed =much easier for moving around). Also, most important for me - can you point me to packages for 1)some sort of handwriting - surely the 750 needs this for portrait mode? and 2)vncserver/client?
Final question - should I make my sd ext2 rather than fat so I can install say Perl and mySQL on it, or even Gimp? Space is a BIG problem on the 750.
Many thanks again for your help and this brilliant site - I would have left my zaurus in a drawer without all your enthusiasm and knowledge!

1) only on screen keyboard is readily available.
2) search a bit the forum, and look at Feed Changes to see where you can start to look for ipks
3) ext2 is better, because vfat does not support some features of ext2 (like symbolic link), though some SD doesn't not like ext2 too much and you won't be able to see it in windows as is.
While you are at it read the forum guidelines, like one thread per question, and try to search the forum first.
One thread make it easier to find information about a particular question for people using search.

Mark -- Please don't be offended by this... what happens is that when there is 1 question in an initial
post and a thread of followups -- it makes it better for searching for information. If a thread switches
from one topic to another, it only convolutes the information. It may seem silly to create 3 4 or 5 new
topics (ie: threads) just for 3,4 or 5 questions... but the questions that are easily answered will be answered
quickly -- and the items that take a lot of work and dicussion will remain current.
Next, the more this is done, the easier it will be to search for answers and hit a relevant thread
and not a thread about one or more random things where your answer is buried some 12 screen
pages down.

I thought I might post this here, too. In the thread "Xwindows crashing" I reported
that the Xwindows would crash after two seconds or so (for a list of dmesg and
other facts see my latest post there). I have reflashed and the result is always the
same: for a while everything works and then, after a reboot, it has the same
symptoms again.

Is there any updates to the developer sdk? I'm getting quite a few compile errors with rc8 devel where the same source compiled fine for rc5
weird.

Guys,
I'm sorry to bug you again, but I've still had no success with this and I would very much appreciate any help from anyone who has this working, even some words of encouragement would be nice. For example if a single soul was to confirm that this is working for him/her I would continue to chip away. Thanks!
