Title: Dosbox *effective* Compatibility List
Post by: scoutme on December 28, 2004, 05:19:18 am
I'm right now playing sensible soccer, and it runs absolutely crappy, a lot worse than the snes9x rom

I'm sure I'll be able to find a good configuration to make it run smoothly, and sure I'll share all the info with you all. Well, let's behave like this for all the software we test, and let's grow this thread.

I have played a little with it - but basically emulating X86 should be harder than emulating the SNES etc.

Set frameskip to 10 or something like that and you should get "better" results - also take a look at the forums at dosbox - there are good guides in optimizing the results.

I have wizardry gold -- I want to try to get like wizardry I II and III to run...
haven't tried it yet, though.

I also wouldn't mind getting a bare bones win95 booting under bochs...
I need to find some intructions on how to strip down win95 -- goal: steel panthers

now that I have rc8, I also want to work on advmame again -- now that I can xrandr -s 1
!!!

This Slashdot article (http://slashdot.org/articles/03/08/08/0437218.shtml) talks about a guy who managed to squeeze Win 95 down to 4.47 MB, and that even includes Solitaire apparently!   The link in the article is a 404 however and the MSBetas.net site doesn't have any mention of the project.  Hopefully someone has heard of this and can find out more about it.

is possible , but it so slow like a Win95 with a pentium 90.

you can try bochs, or qemu, for me qemu is better then bochs. but you have 2 alterantives

Yeah, by using rdesktop

Quite funny accessing Windows XP Pro full screen on a Zaurus

Thanks for finding the page!

This file listing is very useful if anyone wants to attempt to shrink Windows: http://web.archive.org/web/20031205075356/.../95filelist.txt (http://web.archive.org/web/20031205075356/msbetas.net/Micro95/95filelist.txt)

I also found this page which goes into more detail on shrinking windows (but doesn't quite get it down as small as the above link): http://web.archive.org/web/20030803064537/...rinkingwindows/ (http://web.archive.org/web/20030803064537/http://www.wimborne.org/richard/shrinkingwindows/)
