Thanks a lot for the beautiful work. Every new Cacko instance has been a step in the right direction, I hope this one follows.
Is there still a plan to offer a "barebones" version of your ROM, or one that would allow you to choose which programs to keep on?
Thanks again, and a Happy New Year to all.
Edit: Can we PM you bug-reports/RFE's?
The new background and icons are *rockin'* I'm testing as much of the unit as I can before taking off for the new year's eve party, but this is impressive so far.
The "4~" bug is gone from QKonsole is gone, that's really good as well.
NetFront 3.1 is also very much appreciated.
Too bad the wireless monitor can't actively scan for nearby AP's. Oh well, next version.
Still can't seem to mount swapfiles with the Mem applet.

Please take advantage of the official package feed at:

http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed (http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed)

It is already listed in the Package Manager GUI or you can uncomment it in the /etc/ipkg.conf file.  There are about 160 packages that we have with all the necessary dependencies.  All should just work out of the box.

well done to the cacko team! Thank you so much for bringing us the latest ROM!

Though I have one problem with my Buffalo WLI2-CF-S11 card. Don't seem to be recognised by the new ROM.

Apart from that, great job! Love the new icons!

Sssweeeeeet  !

How I would have loved to have this ROM for my 6000L too.
Well the only little thing (at first glance) is that the screen shows gostings on the letters.
I guess I just need to do the
echo >  75 whatever whatever command (need to search up that command now).

Thanks for the New Year gift.

HNY to all  :-)

Hi,

Thanks to the developers and  happy, healthy New Year to all.

I use an Ambicom WL-1100CF wireless card.  In the prior version, I got it to work with the wlan-ng drivers.  I'd like to try the hostap drivers, but my feeble memory is not supplying the names of the files that need editing, etc.  Bringing up the network tool doesn't appear to be enough.  The device does recognize the card:

cardctl ident
Socket 0:
  product info: "AmbiCom", "W1100C 802.11b CF-Card", "2.2"
  manfid: 0xd601, 0x0002
  function: 6 (network)

Any pointers to previous threads, etc. would be appreciated.

Rick

Mea Culpa.

Let's end the year with bad form and answer my own post.

The network app does recognize the AmbiCom wireless card.  For my office network, with a Linksys wireless device, the Config tab needs Network Type set to Infrastructure & Auto-connect needs to be off.

Now, I'm off to stupkid's feed for more fun.

Thanks to all the developers, again.

Yes, thank you!

Now I can't decide what should go on my 700! OZ or cacko 1.22?
I think I'll probably end up with cacko 1.22 -- you can't beat
opera full screen browsing on 640x480!

Well, you can but you'll waste all your space. Root partition is only used to store read-only portion of the ROM, the remaining part is used as /home.

Hi,
Thank you for the nice new ROM, which is really a step forward!

Nevertheless I have some trouble with BT-profiles, which I did not have with 1.12b: I need two different BT-connections, one for my GPRS-Nokia-Handy, which is a ppp-modem-link and the other for my desktop machine, which is a PAN-connection. I can configure each connection profile ALONE and make it work without any problems. But when I install both profiles, afterwards I can only see the ppp-connection. The PAN-connection appears in the list of the network template, but when I try to start it, I can't see it in the start menu.

Any ideas?

Yes, I see the problem. As a temporary workaround, install older version of PAN plugin from http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/bluetooth.html (http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/bluetooth.html)

Tried again on a newly flashed Zaurus and everything worked fine. Try to delete both connections, create them again and restart Qtopia.

Also, as the last resort, try reflashing Zaurus again with 1.22.

Hostap driver supports this card, but additional steps are needed to make it actualy working. See this thread for details: http://www.dsitri.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?...er=asc&start=15 (http://www.dsitri.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=97&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15)

Also this card needs firmware to be downloaded:

prism2_srec -gs wlan0 PM010101.hex
iwpriv wlan0 reset 1
prism2_srec -rp wlan0 RF010704.hex

I wasn't able to get hold on such card before 1.22 release, so aall this was not included in the ROM.

As others have pointed out, it's nice to have the Oclocking options in Kino, but putting them in the light and power options would be much better. Allow suspend on a lid-close event except when user defined apps are running would be great.
Have you improved the toolchain at all? Last time I checked, grep etc were missing switches etc...

Good luck further, guys, and great job so far.

First of all, I would like to thank the Cacko team for this amazing new version of the Rom, thank you guys  really a great work!

About Kino2:

-I think that the way that the function of controling the CPU frequency when playing audio is not the best one or at least could be improved. It's good that I can downclock my CPU to save battery when listening to Mp3 when my Z is in my pocket, but sometimes you hear music in the background, when surfing the web or reading an e-book or pdf file and then, I don't want the CPU frequency to slow down for example... So I suggest to change the "When playing audio: X Preset" tab (or add one) with something like: "When LCD is closed: X Preset " That way, for example, when you only play audio with the LCD closed in your pocket, kino2 automatically downclocks the CPU and when I open the LCD to check something while playing music or just surfing the web or writing a doc with the music  in the background the CPU is upclocked.

-In the playlist screen, when I untab a tab    some glitches occur, like when I disable the "album" tab and when I click the "type" tab to change its column size, "album" appears again...

-When I open Kino2, it can't auto detect MP3 files on my SD card, unlike OGG files that are displayed correctly. I must listen and add MP3s to the playlist by manually clicking  "File" > "Open..."

Update:

-Some Divx files are not displayed in the "File" > "Open..." window. I must play them through the "Files" tab in the desktop.

-The playlist is pretty hard to use IMO because when you tab a file it automatically adds it to the playlist... that makes building a big playlist and adding a bunch of files a really slow and tedious task...

-In the playlist, with random playback mode, when you select "Y" file while playing "X" file and then you click "stop" and then "play", the first song of the playlist is played and not the selected one.

Sorry for my bad english.
Just trying to improve the program.
Thank you so much again for this really great work!

First of all. Thanks for this great distribution. I used cacko 1.21b and was very pleased. Now I use the new version. It looks good. I have the same problem with me WLAN-card D-Link DCF-660W.
Quote
This card should be supported. Please, check /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf file, find entry for your card and check if contains correct card info (get it with cardctl ident)
cardctl ident shows
[CODE]product info: "D-Link", "DCF-660W",""
manfid 0xd601,0x0005
function:6 (network)
But in the dard applet it is shown as Zcomax XI-325H ....
I tried to change the /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf and removed the remark at the manfid line of this card. But it didn't change anythink.

Wish everybody a good 2005 with linux and Zaurus

Post by: pelrun on January 01, 2005, 09:34:34 pm
To get my 660W recognised correctly I commented out the Zcomax lines and then restarted the driver (or you could just restart the Z) to get the Z to reread the config files. Just editing the file isn't enough.

I'm liking this new rom a lot, but it has even worse troubles in magnified mode (a few of my apps need it) than 1.21b did. There's no low-res versions of the icons for the toolbar and the close/help boxes on the windows. So everything gets cut off/squashed/etc - I can't even see the main qtopia menu button on the toolbar, because it's forced off the edge of the screen! It also seems to affect the scrollbars in the applications now as well.

This was never a problem on the default sharp rom; smaller versions of all the icons were selected when magnified mode was engaged. So is there any way to fix this for Cacko?

On a different note, I also get my Bluetooth card working with the new ROM!
Thank you so much!!
Title: Cacko Rom 1.22 Is Available!
Post by: chris08 on January 02, 2005, 02:18:31 pm
Hi folks. At first, happy new year to all of you!

To Anton & the Cacko team: Great new rom!

However, I have one problem:

While my Wlan (Trendnet TEW-222CF) card worked just fine out-of-the-box in 1.21, it doesn't do so in 1.22.

cardctl ident gives me:
Code: [Select]
product info "Wireless", "LAN Adapter", "Version 01.02", ""
manfid 0x156, 0x0002
function:6 (network)

In the old rom, the led on the card would go on and the turn off until I activated it via the connect button. In the new rom, the light goes on the very instance I insert the card into my Z750 and so it stays. It is not recognized by the applet. However when I insert the card, it shows "Intersil PRISM2 11 Mbps Wireless Adapter".

I found out that flashing the new kernel onto the old rom results in the same behaviour. Doing it the other way around results in the Z hanging on boot.

Any help greatly appreciated

Chris

Similar problems here too. I got a C860 for someone and got them an Origo/Senao v2 wifi card. By editing the wlan-ng.conf file this prism 2 based card worked fine.

However in the new version of the Cacko the card is recognised out of the box and the led lights but we have been unable to get a connection.

We'd also really appreciate any advice on getting it working!

Cheers

Lost Addressbook entries!

I backed up " /home/Zaurus"  before flashing to 1.22 .  After flashing I copied over "/home/Zaurus" thinking it contained my addressbook entries, by the way I'm using the Sharp Adressbook.  When I bring up the addressbook, no entries.  Can anyone help?

Also,  I did perform a backup of the system using the "Backup/Restore" application before flashing.  Is there a way of pulling my addressbook file from this?

One more thing, I have an Ambicom WL1100C-CF wifi card and I saw the previous entries about the card being recognized but not connecting.  I'm having the same problem, what do I do to get a connection?

Thanks

Same problems as a bunch of other folks have re: wireless connectivity.  I've got a D-Link DCF-660W.  Originally it came up recognized as a Zcomax, but I used pelrun's hints and commented out the Zcomax stuff.  Now it recognizes the card as a D-Link DRC-660.  Editing hostap_cs.conf show that this should be the proper card (I think ?) as it references the DCF-660W.  Lights come on and it appears to attempt to make the connection, but fails every time.

My wireless lan does not use WEP or MAC authentication, and I do broadcast my SSID.  Very very generic (I live way out in the sticks so security isn't much of an issue, cows don't have computers......yet).

Gorgeous new ROM though Maslovsky, much improved in every way.  Welll, except for this "minor" issue though.  Kino2 is waaaay cool and the icon work you did is awesome.  Thanks for the great New Year's present.

I'll get back to you guys with more detailed answers later from my PC. Right now just a few follow ups for most important issues:

  - Network conectivity. First thing is to make sure your card is recognized properly. Like I already mentioned - check entry for your card in /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf file. You can remove entries for all other cards so they don't get in your way. Also remember that you need to restart pcmcia after editing config file (/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart).  Also make sure to turn off autoconnection in Network Settings. And finaly try to type iwconfig in console when card is trying to connect - for some strange reason it helps with some cards...

 - Backup/restore. Do NOT use backup/restore application between different ROM versions - you'll most likely get your Z in unstable state. My recommendation to restore your PIM data is using synchronization with PC. This is most reliable method. However if you don't have that option, you can just save /home/zaurus folder and then restore it. The best is to restore that directory outside of Qtopia so that fastloaded applications can reread their data when Qtopia restarts.

 - Small icons for magnified mode. I'm surprised anyone is still using it  Small icons have been removed from the ROM to save space. We'll create a package with removed icons and put it into Cacko feed. Please, wait a couple of days.

I've said it before, and proudly say it again..... You're A Freakin' Genius !!!!

Turned off the autoconnect check box and wireless card fired up and worked like a charm.  I'm a bit embarassed, I should've tried that myself.

Now I can just kick back and really enjoy looking over all this great stuff you've provided us with.  Thanks so much.

Hoi,
the new rom seems great  (from what I can say after testing it for a few hours)

After changing the hostap_cs.conf my SanDisk Wlan card works fine. I had to change
the entry for for the "SanDisk Wireless LAN Card" to

version "SanDisk Corporation", "Wireless LAN CARD", ""
 --------------^------------------------------------------------
(D instead of d)

Now only my Navilock GPS CF card makes trouble.... (the card worked fine under v 1.21b).
I installed qpegps_0.9.2.2_maps_arm  and added a default serial card in /etc/pcmcia/serial.conf using serial_cs.o (as the GPS card was recogniced as a kind of bluetooth card). The card is now recogniced and dmesg shows me:

ttyS03 at port 0xf6000400 (irq = 39) is at 16C950/954

- is ttyS03 correct? (i thought this should be ttyS3) Do I have to create a device for ttyS03?

In any case the card is not found by the gpsd ...(not for /dev/ttyS3)

Have fun, Georg

Hi ... I'm the very user that uczmeg mentioned earlier having problems connecting WiFi with the new ROM - worked with 1.21 although I discovered that he modified wlan-ng.conf before shipping it to me.

After reading this thread, I turned off the "autoconnect" option and all works fine now.

However, can you tell me why this is the case? Before I unchecked this, the card was recognised as "Zonet ZCF1100" and whilst connecting, the LED flashed a few times but always failed. In 1.21, it connected with the autoconnect selected.

Anyway, liking the new ROM ... now that my WiFi is working, time to download some stuff

Cheers,
Gav,

I must say, I love this new ROM!  The only thing I'm having a problem with now is getting bluetooth to work.  I had it working before with the TKC ROM, but can't seem to get it working with this one.  I've read through the bluetooth howto but still haven't had any luck.  I know my zaurus can see my phone (sbdtool browse works) and I've even tried using dund -c <mac> with no luck.  I just can't seem to connect with my phone to get online.  Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions??

Thanks Maslovsky, this is a Great Rom!!!  I definitely don't mind the few tweaks required to get everything working just right in order to have my Z be the leading edge handheld you have helped it to be.

Here's a note for those who are just backing up DTM data (PIM data) to transfer:  In the old ROM, the data files are saved all lowercase.  In the new ROM, they're all uppercase.  So simply change the case to uppercase on the backed up files you copy into /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm, and you should be good to go (note that you have to reboot before seeing the data... at least i did).

I have the same DLINK/Zcomax error... will try commenting out other entries now and see what happens.

Update:  It worked... i'm online now... sweet!  Also realized that it may be that the case doesn't matter anyway since these could easily be stored on a FAT16-formatted card.  I didn't try rebooting before fixing the case thing, so perhaps it wasn't necessary, but try it if you're having trouble.

Thanks so much for your work on this.  I find it unbelievable that a few people hacking in their off time can put together a reworked system like this in any amount of time.

Just wondering two things:

1) Does this work with 6000L?  (I know it uses the 6000L version ofr Opera) but will it run on 6000L

2) For a given unit (C860 or whatever)....Will doing a "Backup", then "Flash new ROM", then "RESTORE" work?  Or is there more to it?

I mean, do I have to worry about backup missing files or grabbing bits of the old OS  when I restore?

Thanks.

BTW.  The list is impressive....what is left for version 1.3

Also, was wondering if the auto-off-on-clamshell-close was made as an option?

Thanks !!!!!

Maslovsky:

All of us out here are so grateful (and perhaps somewhat envious of your skills) for what you've put together for all of us.  I just can't believe how great this new ROM is !  You've really LISTENED to the feedback from us folks and taken your time, effort, and many skills to generate something that improves the Zaurus part of our lives.  The front-end of this thing is flat-out gorgeous and the new, improved apps are wonderful.  Congrats on the new calculator app, it's awesome.  Sharp oughta hire you and pay you the "big bucks" to take this thing of their's worldwide.  Something they seem to be incapable of doing.

I'm one of those folk who had lots of concerns about the ability to play videos.  Spend a lot of time on planes, trains, and such like, that this has become a principal part of what I use my C-860 for.  Your new version of Kino2 is just awesome.  Doesn't perfectly play some of my stuff, but my MPG movies are fantastic, and the control you've allowed us is something that other "programmers" can see and just weep at their own inadequacy.  I've never been a fan of Kino (preferring tkcVideo) but quite frankly your new Kino2 blows their stuff into the weeds.  I just uninstalled tkcVideo for the LAST time.

Synch'd perfectly with my Outlook and email.  This is just simply an awesome effort on your part (and those who worked with you, Kudos to them as well !@!).  You have once again (not for the first time, and I suspect not for the last), "raised the bar" of the Zaurus community.  Don't know rightly what else to say but a rousing Thank You !

If you should ever find your way to the U.S., I expect that there'd be a host of folks, myself included, that would happily put you up and treat you like the toast of the town.  Serious about that, if that can happen, please feel free to contact me, or (I expect) damn near anybody else out here.  I'd feel like I was hosting a freakin' rock star !

I'm proud to be using the stuff you wrote.

after some testing nearly everythink works fine, but I have two problems remaining:

    1. My favourite editor joe doesn't work any more. I think the problem is ncurses. May be the new version of libncurses isn't  compatible or I broke it when installing other packages. The error message is: error while loading shared libraries: joe: undefined symbol: __udivsi3.

    2. PDF2 installs fine, but doesn't come up any more.

Great rom, but I'm still having a problem with my wireless card. I have a Buffalo WLI2-CF-S11 and I've followed all of the posted instructions (editing hostap_cs.conf, turning off autoconnect, iwconfig) but I still can't get it to work. As soon as I plug it in both the power and link light turn on and stay on. I can see it with a cardctl ident, but the tray applet doesn't show it loaded and the "connect" button in the network applet is grayed out. For the time being I've gone back to 1.21b, but I really hope I'll be able to use 1.22 soon! Thanks.

A couple of problems, one with a solution, one without.

In Settings/keyhelper.conf the QCop line used to switch keyboard layout on Fn+K is commented out. You need to remove the # to re-enable.

The more serious problem for me is that samba doesn't appear to be running across my WiFi link and I 'think' that this is used by the Sychronisation stuff. I was previously able to sync over Wifi - can't any more + for some reason the PC Link applet won't save the hostname that I specify.

I don't think it's a great idea putting smb.conf in a read only location... apart from that (and the Wifi bits not running with Autoconnect enabled... spotted already) looks quite nice.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to drop back to 1.21b for now.

    Hi jpc8,
I had the same problem with my SMC-card each time when I tried to edit hostap_sc.conf with mc. Afterwards there was no Wireless at all. The card-led just went on and nothing happened any more.  Had to go back to the original hostap_sc.conf to get the card recognized again. Same problem each time I stored the file with mc.  Now it is recognized as Zcomax but works fine nevertheless. May be you have to try another editor?

For those getting the undefined symbol problem (I had the same problem in Vim and mtr), I believe this is an ncurses problem.  Only ncurses 5 is installed so I dropped v4 on from an old copy I had and changed the libncurses4 symlink to point to the old version (leaving the v5 stuff alone) and the problem seemed to go away.
Perhaps it would be good to put libncurses4 in the next patch?

    Hi Anton,

I like Lisa very much. First time
that mc comes up in good lookl thanks to the vga font.
Besides my WLAN card Linksys WCF12 works out of the box

    Now comes "the but":

    1. the included libSDL does not work on
my C860(seeems to be for 5x00). I installed the Cxx0 version
from zports.sf.net - that works fine
for crimson fields on C series.

    2. Deactivating the liblusscreensaver.so from the applet causes my C760 to restart (reproducable).

    3. A friend of mine said that Elena stopped charging when the battery is full again - Lisa seems to charge all the time...

Lisa is a very good mixture - thx a lot.

    1. the included libSDL does not work on
my C860(seeems to be for 5x00). I installed the Cxx0 version
from zports.sf.net - that works fine
for crimson fields on C series.

Actualy it does work, but it may need some additional parameters. Look this page for more info (in Japanese):

Not to sound like an asshole (I hope I don't), but a little bit of QA and testing might do 1.23 a lot of good. It's really too bad so many people have troubles when upgrading.
I've tested a WMV2 video today and it didn't work either (just got a green screen).
Apart from a couple of quirks, 1.22 really is lots of fun
I still don't like the screen saver config in the taskbar, for example, and the lack of integration in the screensaver/power configuration tools. I'll test the wireless with my card and report on that too.

    Hi Anton,

in the meantime I resumed my C760 and after a short time the display swirched off(into totally black).
The LEDs still were on (charging + new email) but no key could switch the LCD on.

Power off worked but Power on again resulted in the same situation.

    So I did a battery-out-restart.

The date-time applet came up and after pressing OK - the same situation - LCD black again.

So I don't know to get around this without reflashing to Lisa or perhaps 1.21b again...

If you could send me any hints how to get more debugging/crash info I could post it here or
    post it to you.

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Hi again,

I got it! It seems that charging is
    somehow corrupt.
Though my C760 was charged the whole
night it switched off as described above (when powered by battery).
When I put him on AC everything works again. And I'm quite sure my battery is
    working well.

So after the whole night charging it
seems for me that the battery isn't
    charged at all

    Hoi Uwe,
I had this Problem too (and also earlier with 1.21b). I assume that you run only on battery if the screen is dark?
The problem is, that in powersave-mode the screen is switched off instatnly (instead of going darker after 15 seconds). The solution is easy, just start to charge the Z. On external power the screen is switched on again and you can change the light settings (just change the time for dimming the screen in battery mode).
    I hope that helps, Georg

Here are my experiences (bugs) with 1.22 on my C860

    1. The battery charging light is always on when on ac power (even after 8 hours). The battery doesnt seem to charge very well.
    2. The wallpaper is quite difficult to remove. I had to edit ~/Settings/Launcher.conf to do this. Wallpaper returns after going to appearance app.
    3. The ncurses problem was fixed by symlinking libncurses.so.4 to libcurses.so.5 from ZSI.
    4. Not related much to cacko but netfront doesnt send the wntire text when replying to a post in ZUG.

    hope this helps

    Hi all,

Maslovsky, Thanks for this peace of art. I've followed the installation procedure and everything is working well (Symbol Wireless card, CF and SD memory cards, even the FTP server!).

Just one comment; the version for tinylogin is 1.2 and not 1.4 as specified in the release notes. Version 1.2 has a known bug while creating a new user (I'm sure you're aware).

    Hi,
i've got to report a weird thing.
While trying to tweak Kino2 preferences, the screen literally freezes. The Menu-Item "Preferences" is highlighted and stays that way, no matter what i try.
Ko/pi, wich is bound to calendar hard key, seems to start up. At least it's icon appears in the taskbar, but there seem to be no way to get it in Front. Apparently the only response to screen-taps is, that backlight brightens up.
This situation turned up twice now, so it seems to be reproducable, yet unpredictable. I don't think, that any specific settings are responsible, but it only happend, when subsequently altering different settings after respective trial.

Up to now, i couldn't find a way around reboot, is there any?

Apart from that, i'm really happy with 1.22. Even my BT-Card was instantly recocgnized and works like a charm.

    Thanks a lot.

I flashed the new Cacko on my C750 today. It looks very nice.

But I have the following problem. Since I don't have internet access with my Z I downloaded the packages with my PC and copied the packages to the cf card.
But I can't install via the GUI (ipkg said something went wrong). At the console I get the message:
'The following package were previously requested but have not been installed: error
    Install them now [Y/n]?'

If I say 'Yes' there are Errors that some File was not found (/usr/lib/ipkg/lists/Cacko) and it tries to connect to cacko.biz/cacko/feed.
If I say 'No' then it also can't find the /usr/lib/ipkg/lists/Cacko but installs the package.

Since I'm not that expert with the console I would like to be able to install  with the GUI.

    Can anyone help?

So it definitely was NOT caused by Lisa /Cacko 1.22 !!
Going from the previous cacko experience, this will probably be solved int the hotfix. It's just an erronous default setting.

RFE: add an option in the finder to look from the root, in addition to the /home/zaurus/Documents, /mnt/card/ and /mnt/cf:)
I also emailed the webmaster a couple of spelling errors I found on the Kino page.

Great work on this.  Spotted most of the bugs mentioned above; battery charging light not switching off, ncurses and screen blanking straight away.  The battery charging may be related to me using the small battery in my c860 instead of the big battery.

Now for my own little bug.  I no longer get icons appearing in the file tab for my sd or cf cards.  The card applet on the task bar 'sees' them when they are inserted and they are mounted correctly of you go to /mnt/cf or /mnt/card.  They even appear on  my Windows machine via samba.  This is very minor as I have work around it by adding sym links to the cards in the internal flash.

Thanks again for the good work.

or perhaps make it automatic - so when you choose to make a connection via PPP to a mobile then it turns it's self on.
That's possible with the up/down scripts for the PPP link. It's much more non-trivial to do it depending on actual traffic.
About the applet: my problems are much more about the lack of integration than with with applet itself. It'd be nice not to have the "about" box in the context menu, to be able to dynamically enable/disable the SS from there, things like that. But you have to be realistic: you're fixing something that someone else screwed up, and you're doing as best a job you can. The lack of proper integration stems from your "Let's fix this crap" attitude, which is very much in line with what most users want. It's just penalizing when you want to rework something, and you end up with something that's quite complex.

The Support for the Socket rev G bluetooth card is great - my only question now would be: is the bluetooth card draining the battery the whole time it's in place? - is it possible to have a software 'switch' to turn Bluetooth on and off? - or perhaps make it automatic - so when you choose to make a connection via PPP to a mobile then it turns it's self on.

Everything look great (except the small bugs and annoyances other people have already mentioned). I just have two questions about Kino2 0.4:

    1) Wasn't it supposed to be a lot faster? It may be like ev1l said and the mplayer rotation code sucks, but I can't get even a 512x384 (or something) video to play with anything higher than 0.5-1 fps. And that file can't be played without rotating it since it is wider than 480 pixels.
    2) My old 320x240-transcoded files play smooth, but oh-so-very tiny. What happened to the Quarter-Image-zoom-thingie that we all knew and loved?

Also, I tried running Quake, and it shows the init screen with the QT toolbar flickering along the left side of the screen, and doesn't do anything more (waited 5+ minutes).

Of course, ScummVM runs just great, which is the most important thing.

Thanks for this new rom, which is a dream come true: it's fast, it's functional, everything that I can run on it, I can run after a few clicks - the package feed system is excellent.  My Origo NL-2511CF wireless card worked straight away, and I can run X with the x-qtserver - too cool!!   (I'm currently displaying the 'deco' X screensaver on it, wirelessly, from another host).

One oddity: I was running 1.21b before, did a ROM/RAM backup from the diag menus and tried to restore it later, using the diag menus again: my SL-C860 flagged a rather ominous-looking red error.  I take it that due to the flash needing to be resized, the standard diag menu rom backup doesn't work properly?  Actually I should not have been messing with this since it is way beyond my knowledge, but that's how I've always done backups before - perhaps the only backups I should do are via the backup/restore utility?

    Kedge,

Just as an FYI, which is unrelated to the problem you are having.  You may run into problems installing packages that you download from feed if you do not have the necessary dependencies.  When you install from the feed the package manager will automatically install any additional needed packages.  So, keep that in mind.

Yes, rotation takes about 20-30% of performance, so it's better to encode videos already in landscape mode.

I keep telling you guys that most of the issues cannot be fixed because there is no source code for Sharp's version of Qtoipa. Regarding the Screen Saver - although it's GPLed, it had such a low priority, so I decided to just ship it as is (we only did Japanese to English translation).

Doesn't work. Maybe it's something with my video file - when I play it without scaling there's a big green rectangle to the right of it, and if I don't rotate I get part of the video duplicated in that same rectangle.

hey guys give him (maslovsky) a break with the kino2/mplayer issues. mplayer was ported by by this guy here (sorry dont know his name  )

    http://atty.jp/?Zaurus/mplayer-w100 (http://atty.jp/?Zaurus/mplayer-w100)

and he has done a great job with mplayer. and the cacko guys have done a great job with kino2 ( i am impressed with the frontend) having used mplayer without it.

i suggest one should try the wmvs with a desktop linux version of mplayer to see if the original mplayer (www.mplayer.hu) supports it well. I have found that wmv9 and wma9 are not supported while wmv8 works ok.

an unwritten policy of oss is to release early and release often and i think its a good idea too. that way we can test and iron out the bugs soon.

if you guys(cacko) need any help from me with some coding/porting just ask me. I was about to release my heretic/duke3d ports but saw u guys already have it in your feed. just give me suggestions on sdl based games that could be ported.

    thanks for 1.22

Spoke to soon... the reboot that fixed the sound also made 320x240 playing work just as good as before, faster even.
Will now try a 640x368 file encoded to avoid rotating it and see what happens.

Edit: The pre-rotated file played beautifully! Full C860 resolution, only issue is that audio plays ahead of video sometimes (until the video catches up). But 500kbps in 640x480 looks better than 500kbps in 320x240 IMHO.

Not able to connect Z to PC as USB Mass Storage device.  Worked under Cacko 1.21 but now PC can't see either the CF or SD on Zaurus.  Is anyone else having this problem under 1.22 and how can I troubleshoot  this to determine what's wrong?

... I take it that due to the flash needing to be resized, the standard diag menu rom backup doesn't work properly? ... that's how I've always done backups before - perhaps the only backups I should do are via the backup/restore utility?

Please, read my previous posts carefully - no backup/restore between different ROM versions. Period.  At least, I'm not going to support such scenario because there are too many differences between the ROMs.
Understood.  In this case, I wasn't doing a backup/restore from the Qt utility, but rather from the Sharp diag menu: the full ROM/RAM backup.  What I was wondering was whether the Sharp backup utility somehow corrupts the backup file as it is not aware of the resized flash partitions.  This is a little off-topic, I admit.

I too am having this same problem.  I am no longer able to connect my Z (860) to my PC as an USB Mass Storage device, which I assume is causing my sync problems.  Also, my CF card which worked perfectly fine using 1.21b does not appear on either my Z or on my PC.  I too would appreciate any help.

My PC is running Windows XP SP1.

    Kedge,

Just as an FYI, which is unrelated to the problem you are having.  You may run into problems installing packages that you download from feed if you do not have the necessary dependencies.  When you install from the feed the package manager will automatically install any additional needed packages.  So, keep that in mind.
    Stupkid,

thanks for the hint. How can I check the dependencies of a package I downloaded?

The NAND backup in the D+M diag menus does a complete image backup of the NAND flash which includes partitioning. A NAND restore will restore partitioning to the way it was when the backup was made.

    Cheers
    Marc
I had the same problem. I found the only way to get it to work was to set the ESS-ID on the wireless LAN config tab to the ID of my home network. It then worked like a charm. I would prefer to have the ESS-ID set to "Any" for this card, so if anyone has an alternatie solution to make this card work I would be pleased to hear it. BTW the card shows up as a Zonet ZCF1100 for some reason.

I also have a D-Link wireless card. This used to work out of the box on 1.21 but just showed both LEDs lit the whole time on 1.22. Editing the config file as advised on other posts solved this, and this card works with the ESS-ID set to "Any"

    Hope this helps

It works fine on my C860 (with slim battery - not that this should make any difference) - I can read SD cards from my XP box with SP1  - I don't have a CF card to hand to try though.

The easiest way is to look in the Packages file from the feed:

    http://www.cacko.biz/cacko/feed/Packages (http://www.cacko.biz/cacko/feed/Packages)

This is what the package manager uses.

I saw in your release notes:

Added Orinoco 1.13e drivers with monitoring mode support, using as default for Socket/Symbol cards.

And in Host AP driver notes:

Agere Systems Inc. Linux Driver (Hermes-I/Hermes-II chipset)

Does this help the Socket Rev B WLAN card work?

    Thanks.

My CF card is now recognized by but my Z and my PC.

    Any suggestions?

CF and SD worked fine for me. (see sig.)
Though from earlier experiences with elena, i first switched twice back and forth from PC-Link to mass-storage. I read somwhere, that the initial state wasn't allways what it appeared to be.

Just another question concerning Kino2: is there any chance for resume or bookmarks? Sometimes i enjoy watching movies while on the bus and, of course, during the day i need some of the other apps. It would be nice to be able to continue on my way back just where i stopped in the morning.

Couple of hints from another user of the D-Link:

1).  Make sure connection is NOT set to automatic
2).  Make sure the you enter the SSID of the network you're trying to connect to

That fixed all of the problems for me at least.  Not sure why Step #2 is necessary, but guess is that Maslovsky will put some thought into it once his brain settles back down from producing this great masterpiece for us.

    RFE:
It'd be grand to put copy/cut/paste buttons on the softkeyboard (when't it's extended).
That way you can get copy/paste functionality even when the Z is in portrait.

    RFE:
Ability to set a network-dependent SMTP server hostname to be able to transparently send mail no matter what nettwork you're on. maybe have a caching server on the Z so that you can use online mode in all clients and just sync up when you get connectivity.

Any ETA on the first hotfix?

If the taskbar applet recognises your card as a DLink then you do not need to do anything else to the hostap_cs.conf file - it's working.

But as Yodabob mentioned previously, you *cannot* use the Non-Spec ESS-ID:"ANY" option in the Network panel. It's broken. Ensure it is switched off and put in the SSID of your network into the box below it.

I've had great success combining DivX 5.1.1 video with ogg vorbis audio into an .ogm file.  The problem was Kino 0.30's MIME filter didn't allow me to open the .ogm files, so I had to use 0.22, but it worked fine. The vorbis stream seemed to take a lot less cpu time than the mp3 audio, hence, video playback was much smoother. I haven't had a chance to put any of my video files on to experiment with 0.40, but I'm sure I can now do 640x480 video with all the speedups. My website (http://dylanpowell.net/zaurus/) (which hasn't been updated in ages) has a walkthrough to make .ogm files under Windows, though you can pretty much leave out all the stuff with oggmuxer as the newest VirtualDubMod can transcode the stream to ogg vorbis. Hope it helps.

Btw, Cacko just keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work, and hopefully some of these minor buggies can be worked out soon- but othewise it is just fantastic. My PocketPC friends just more jealous day by day... heh

How about taking some time off and and playing with FPSE and/or fpsece and getting us a nice working Playstation emulator? Well, just a suggestion. Thanks for your time and effort on making the best Z UI even better!

The most simple way to produce good video is to use PocketDivxEncoder (http://divx.ppccool.com/) which use mencoder under windows.
You can choose, resolution, format (avi or ogm), codec (ffmeg or xvid)....
It's my quickest quality choice . You can produce better video with the good matrice, xvid, ogg (stereo 22500...) and VirtulDubMod... but it's more difficult.
I tried too, with good mplayer version, MKV en MP4

    Hi,

first of all: This is a great rom and the fact that there are just a few minor problems although you guys didn't have a testing and QA department speaks for itself!

I have only small things that I couldn't find in the FAQ so far:

    1. The german keyboard layout has no '?' or it is hidden somewhere.
    ( see https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=9878 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9878) )

    2. Kino2 doesn't play my video files that played well on Cacko 1.21b (Mpeg4 with mp3 sound).

    3. There is a warning message whwn I use iwconfig:
    ---
Warning: Driver for device eth0 recommend version 18 of Wireless Extension, but has been compiled with version 15, therefore some driver features may not be available...

Just completed the upgrade to version 1.22 without any significant problems, I did have to reflash with 28 rather than 27, ussume I have bad blocks in my flash memory.

I took the trouble to expand Anton's instructions including all the housekeeping tasks associated with this type of upgrade & thought they maybe of use to others, so I have posted then below.

Another great ROM from Anton & others, will be making another donation via Paypal very shortly.

    Installation Instructions

    Pre-Installation Work

Check list of known problems in the FAQ located at www.cacko.biz to make sure that these do not affect you.

Make a note of all the applications you have installed on the Zaurus by going through each tab

Load Add/Remove software & select Uninstall packages, make a note of the version number next to each application as well as any dependant software. Any applications not on the list will be built into the ROM. See example notes below.

Create a directory in the root of the SD card called IPKGfiles & using the above information copy all IPKG files for installation to this folder, so they can be installed in bulk.

Backup & copy all files to the PC, including files on flash cards. Never sure what is included in the standard Zaurus backup so I always copy all the files in Flash, SD & CF cards to my PC, also it allows you to recover individual files when required.

Take an extra copy of any files/folders containing data that you want to transfer to the new Cackoo ROM, for example.

       /home/Zaurus/
       /home/Zaurus/applications/dtm

Make a note of any special setting in applications and Settings Tab.

Synchronise your PIM applications with a PC for example using Outlook.

    Cacko Installation Work

Remove all flash cards & insert CF card containing new system files.

1   Make sure that Zaurus isn't plugged into AC power.
2   Remove battery for at least 5 seconds.
3   Replace battery (replace battery cover, lock cover)
    4   Plug in AC power.
5   Press and hold the "OK" button on the keyboard.
6   Turn the power on, you should see the Japanese service menu.
7   Check power cord plugged in (get an error if it isn't plugged in!).
    8   Select option 4 (flash/update).
9   You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)
10   Choose option e.g. 2, assumes files on CF card.
Select Y box & wait for next option to appear
    11   Select "5 Flash repartition",
enter root partition size of at least 27 when prompted, you may want to increase this to 28 to avoid bad block issues further down the line.
12   Flash will be repartioned and  ask if you want to reboot. Zaurus will try to reboot, it will only    successfully reboot if the partition size was not changed, such as when upgrading from Cacko v1.21.
13   Make sure that Zaurus isn't plugged into AC power.
14   Remove battery for at least 5 seconds.
15   Replace battery (replace battery cover, lock cover),
    16   Plug in AC power.
17   Press and hold the "OK" button on the keyboard.
18   Turn the power on, you should see the Japanese service menu.
19   Check power cord plugged in. (get an error if it isn't plugged in!).
    20   Select option 4 (flash/update).
21   You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)
22   Choose option e.g. 2 assumes files are on CF card.
Select Y box & wait for next option to appear
23   Now select "1 Install new ROM" and wait - Zaurus will reboot.
Displays reboot progress information screens ending with a
‘Congratulations’ screen. Select option to format user flash memory

Enter region & user information when prompted.

Change the screen settings when on battery, as the default settings allow the Zaurus to timeout to a blank screen without switching the Zaurus off.

Remove upgrade CF card & insert usual flash card(s).

    Post Cacko Installation Work

Setup PC Link (Default/Advanced) before connecting USB cable.

Create/Rename application tabs to your liking.

    Re-install all applications via Konsole:-

       su
       cd /mnt/card/IPKGfiles
       ipkg install *.ipk

Ignore the Cacko application feed error messages, this will be fixed once you have this working.

Copy any ‘desktop applications files into other folders, where you require an  application to be in more than 1 folder.  You require root privilege to do this

Use the GUI installer to install any application this will refresh the application tabs or reboot the Zaurus, so all the applications appear.

Portabase users: Load portabase & open an existing file, this will automatically associate portabase files with the portbase application

Check all applications have been installed by looking in ipkg install file in /usr/lib/ipkg/status, note any failures for re-installation.

Fix installation failures: Using an editor with root privilege, remove any entries containing the word ‘error’ in the file named /usr/lib/ipkg/status, this file may also be located on your flash cards, if you installed appliocationbs to these devices.

Make sure each application is in the correct folder(s) & in your preferred order.

Recover any data files, take special care with DTM files as you need to change the file names from lower to upper case by adding a ‘1’ to the end of each file name & then changing each name to upper case & removing the 1 at the end. (This must be done on the Zaurus or a LINUX PC connected via the USB port)

Thanks for all the answers, mas, very nice. Would you (or anyone else who feels confident on the subject) recommend a particular codec set for encoding video to play with kino2?
Any chance you'd get Postfix to compile on the Z?
For Windows I can recommend PocketDivXEncoder - very easy to use program to rip and convert DVDs directly into DivX AVI. Recommended settings are described in kino2 help file (I assume you've noticed that is has a help file

I went about installing a crappier version of libSDL on my 860; now I want the old one back! What version is it and where can I find it? Piro's page is a bit hard for me to read...

Remember that whenever you're updating something in the ROM you're (in most cases) just overwriting a symlink. Original SDL lib is located in read-only portion of the ROM. You can restore by creating a symlink:

    Code: [Select]
    /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0.0.5 -> /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0.0.5

Yes you can add to the FAQ

Some observations on the new ROM, will try to provide updates in the future, would you prefer to have the Word file?

    Some areas appear much faster

Eject/Insert card(s) at switch-on appears to have gone, making it much quicker to start using the Zaurus.

    No spontainious reboots so far.

Like the new battery+ applet, pity you can't see battery status when charging.

Still can't connect to the Internet via mobile phone using Infrared.

Any idea how you make Textmaker the default word processor AND make it open with the selected rather than a blank document.

Unfortunately as far as I know Textmaker doesn't accept a file name in command line, so it can't be made to open files when clicked on. Any other issues  with textmaker should probably go into Software forum or TextMaker forums.

Anyone get the Pretec wireless card to work?  I can't for the life of me, and I followed every suggestion in this thread.  It is listed by iwconfig, but I can't get online or even ping my wireless router.  I've tried DHCP and manual setup.  DHCP gets no assignment and never connects.  Manual is connected (I assume cuz it's manual), but I can't even ping the router.

Finally, I want to stick with Cacko and will purchase another card if need be.  Can someone suggest some cards they have had good luck with?  Ones that don't require a lot of work to get going.

    Hi Mike,

Not sure if this can help but I also experience problem connectiing to the internet using the mobile phone via infrared initially but managed to get it done eventually. What you can try is that after configuring for a irda connection via Network, try connecting to the internet from the Netfront browser. Meaning is invoke the Netfront and it will will pop up the Connection Prompt and choose the irda connection to connect. This is the only method that works for me.
Not sure why, but other methods (eg. via Network applet) seems to be broken.

    Anton:
Great work on the new ROM, decided to give it a try as I miss a few features that I can't recreate in pdaXrom, yet. I'm now really torn between the 2 ROMs. If only there were an easy/quick way to switch between them like X/Qt.

I'm going to try the X/qt-Debian route for a bit to see if it marries the best of the two worlds.

Meanwhile I left a message in the Cacko-Wellenreiter thread about some missing icons and screen rotation issues if you're interested.

Again thanks for sharing your great work.

    Cheers,

When on battery power and with the lowest brightness setting, the screen turns off after resuming from a suspend. This also happens after I disconnect my Zaurus (in USB mass storage mode) from Windows XP. Then I have to plug in the AC power to get the screen back.

I've already tried increasing the dim light time in the Light & Power settings, and also tried unchecking the box, but the screen still dies on me in the above situations.

The problem disappears if I increase the brightness level. However, after disconnecting my Zaurus from Windows XP, the screen dies for a few seconds before coming back up.

Also I've also noticed that suspending and resuming times are slower than with Cacko 1.21b. Presumably because of the more complex scripts involved.

I love the new ROM - I was seriously looking into pdaXrom but after this release decided to stick with Cacko. It seems like a lot of people are struggling to decide between 2 excellent ROMS - what a nice problem to have - didn't someone recently ask on these forums whether development for z is dying down? Hopefully Cacko and pdaXrom people have put that question to rest (for a few weeks anyway).

I do have a few questions about Kino2:

    1. For MP3 (created via itunes conversion of CD on powerbook) I don't get author and album displayed (only song name and size). Is it me doing something wrong or is this not available in Kino2? I have recently switched my music from ogg -> mp3 and remember that I did not have this problem with ogg (although this was on Sharp player - I know that is still available but I would prefer Kino2 for all other reasons). BTW, please don't attack me for abandoning ogg - as soon as Apple can be convinced to add option to itunes to support ogg I will switch back.

    2. When I load a saved playlist Kino2 positions me at the bottom of the list - seems more logical it should assume I want to play the whole list starting at the top? I know there is already a related request to add option to resume from last played song/movie posion, but in the meantime can we please have an option (or change of default) to start at the beginning?

Thanks again for hard and great work.

Hahaha, yeah. It's pretty fun to see the cacko and pdaX teams motivating everyone else. They're doing a very good job, IMHO, and because of that people feel it's worth it to have powerful apps.
If Cacko didn't exist, I don't think I would have even kept my Z. I would have switched to a cheap Palm or so, but because they provide a good platform (and a responsive platform, whose vision users can relate to), I feel it's worth trying.
The new networking setup is a bit problematic, but it'll get ironed out eventually, and then form a much better solution than the default setup. Judging from the previous experience, it's just a matter of time.
Once that is figured out, it'd be very nice to focus on interoperability.

My Socket G BT working with no problems (GSM GPRS internet)
My PayPal donation will follow shortly.

Only one problem I have found is with Polish keyboard layout in the Keyboard aplication:

I can choose it within the application but later on I cannot switch to it - it is not visible in the task bar applet. It doesn't matter how many other kbds I choose all of them are visible and accessible - Polish is not.
Same problem was in 1.21 and 1.21B version. I was trying to compare the kbd files but coud not see any difference - which means nothig as my linux experience is null :-((

Any help appreciated - thanks in advance :-)

Great ROM indeed, noticed d speedups in kino and libSDL! I do still have some problems:

    - opera just segfaults, can't find out why
    - when connecting with wifi, the overall timeout is really short: in the end DHCP only has half a second to reply and sometimes connection aborts before it can connect to the AP
    - the network icon in the lower right sometimes displays right on top of another icon (the screensaver icon in my case, but when I disable that it just puts itself on top of the next)

    Hope you can help.

Just found a bug in Cacko 1.22, Zaurus won’t power up if you close the lid in the middle of rebooting. Removing battery for 5 seconds fixes it.

Not sure if it was a problem on version 1.21B never closed the lid during reboot before.

well, the network icon on top of another icon happened already right after flashing. Unfortunately I haven't tried opera right after install, so I don't know if it's caused by another package. I've installed the IBM multimodal browser now anyway (opera 7.55) so it's not such a problem. The DHCP problem was caused by a previous run of dhcpcd not having cleaned up its files in /var/run and caused new runs of dhcpcd to return with an error right away. After I've solved that, the network connection applet allowed more time for DHCP to reply.

I'll attach a list of the installed packages... Please note that the libpng12 and libSDL entries are mockups that I've added manually to the /home/root/usr/lib/ipkg directory to prevent the installer from pulling these packages in as dependencies. In addition, zlib and smbmount have been installed by mistake (already on ROM), but I have not yet fixed that.

I am considering switching to Cacko, but I have a few questions.

First, I have a Stock 860.  In the network settings, it has a vpn tab which I need.  Also the connect applet includes a VPN Connect button which I need.  Are both of those in the Cacko Rom?  If not, can I just copy them back onto it after flashing?

Second, if I try Cacko and need to switch back, can I just reflash back to where I was before?

Third, in your release notes, you mentioned a fix for "device busy on CF modems".  I downloaded your kernel patches, but I didn't see any mention of that in there.  Are there any other patches you made that fixed that?  I would like to apply it to my existing Sharp ROM.

    Thank you,
    Matt

You need to perform full NAND backup from D+M menu. Then you'll get to restore your Zaurus to original state. I think this information is included in HOWTO on this site.

Sharp has released an updated Rom for the C860 (v1.4j I think). If you don't want to do a NAND (which will give you an exact copy of the zaurus when the NAND file was made) you can flash this to get back the base Sharp rom, then restore a backup created with the "Backup/Restore" app to get a fresh Sharp rom setup

Note: the C860 rom from Sharp flashes fine on the C760 too

I'm not shure about that, but to me it seems, that the lowst brightness setting by applet, is as dark as lowest brigthness set by Fn+3 after dimming.
So maybe it's just the same behaviour, exept that there is no lower level of brightness after setting lowest by applet. So the next step naturally would be to turn the led off.

    Just a thought

Hostap driver supports this card, but additional steps are needed to make it actualy working. See this thread for details: http://www.dsitri.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?...er=asc&start=15 (http://www.dsitri.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=97&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15)

Also this card needs firmware to be downloaded:

    prism2_srec -gs wlan0 PM010101.hex
    iwpriv wlan0 reset 1
    prism2_srec -rp wlan0 RF010704.hex

I wasn't able to get hold on such card before 1.22 release, so aall this was not included in the ROM.
    [div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=60070\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Do you have any more information on this?  Where do you get the hex files required to flash the card?  i haaven't had any luck getting this card working.

This is one of the places where you can get firmware files:

    http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/ (http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/)

Since I don't have this card, I can't make it working either even though the ROM has nessesary drivers.

I did manage to get the primary flash install, however on the secondary i get:
    Quote
    # prism2_srec -rp wifi0 rf010704.hex
    srec summary for pm010101.hex
    Included file name: pm010101.hex
    Component: 0x0015 1.1.1 (primary firmware)

Verifying update compatibility and combining data:
    Plugging PDR 0400 (NIC configuration): ram16=1 pci=0 (03 00)
    OK.

    Downloading to volatile memory (RAM).
    ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_DOWNLOAD]: Input/output error
    Download failed!

Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

Great upgrade.  Looks really nice and I like the new Wireless Monitor.

    A couple of things, though.

1.) I'm using an Ambicom WL1100C-CF wireless card.  Why does the auto-connect feature need to be disabled?

2.) During the install, using 27MB for the root partition is insufficient.  I had to set it to about 32MB.  Perhaps this has already been addressed, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

3.) Kino2 still acts a little weird.  I recorded a program on my Mac using EyeTV.  It records in MPEG-4 format.  I had it export the recording so it could be viewed over the web.  On Kino2 in Cacko 1.21b, I got a small picture in the lower left corner, garbage elsewhere, and no sound.  When I looked at the file info, nothing was listed under Audio.

Now under the new ROM, I don't get video or audio.  I just get a small green square in the middle of the screen and nothing else.  However, the file info does show audio information.  Here's what Kino2 says about this file:

    Video-
    Size: 240x180
    Codec: mp4v
    Bitrate: 0
    FPS: 15

    Audio-
    Codec: faad
    Rate: 44100
    Bitrate: 128000
    Channels: 2

I don't know why the video bitrate is listed as 0.  This file does play well on my Mac using Quicktime and Windows Media Player.

I was looking into using DiVA to convert this file to MPEG-1 or 2, but I cannot find an option for that.  I suppose I can upgrade to Quicktime Pro and do the conversion there, though.  However, I'm wondering why I had video in the old version and now I get a green blob.  Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Curt

    Curt,

    1.  I'm not sure on this one maybe Maslovsky can explain.

    2.  This is usually due to bad sectors on internal flash.

    3.  Can you upload the video to this page:

    http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/uploads.php (http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/uploads.php)

then someone can take a look at it.

    Thanks!

The autoconnect feature doesn't seem to be compatible with the new wireless drivers used in 1.22 ROM.

This is very unusual. In rare cases people had to allocate 28 Mb for the root partition, but in your caes it looks like you have some serious problems with your NAND flash chip. Did you actualuy try all of the options between 27 and 32 Mb?

DO you have a list of really supported codecs? That way we know what to encode in, and what to expect not to work natively

All codecs supported by mplayer should work, BUT not all of them work well on Zaurus. The best option for video encoding is using DivX 5 if you care about the size. Otherwise use MPEG1 or MPEG2.

When I set brightness to lowest via the applet, then if I resume or even rotate the screen the LCD turns off. It can be turned back on with FN+4, but it's annoying.

If I use the Light & Power app or Fn+3 to set the Z to the lowest brightness this never happens.

OK, then it's a well known issue, which I don't have a solution (unfortunately). Like I explained - the brightness applet was ported from Qtopia 1.6.2 GPL version and that's the only source code I have to adjust brightness. I have no idea why it works in such a strange way under Sharp's Qtopia.

Is there anything else in the new Qtopia? You could just disable the lowest setting in the applet, since it's th eonly one causing problems.

Okay, i finally tried connecting to the school wireless network since flashing to 1.22, and.... NOTHING!  The D-link LED blinks, blinks at different rates, blinks, and then gives up.  Nada.  This worked just fine before the flash.  Aaaaargh!

I'm not really sure what would have changed, or been lost, in the flash.  I have the same wireless network settings as i did before.  There is no SSID for the campus network, so i wonder if something changed in the way the new ROM deals with that.  I doubt it, but i don't have any other ideas.

I have used wireless networking at home to connect to the router/AP many times (we have a SSID), as well as to the neighbor's a few times, inadvertently (they don't), so it's something more subtle than just outright breakage.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

A: Turn off Autoconnect option in Network Settings application. Change ESSID from "Any" to your network specific value.

Yes.  I assume you mean that part?  Autoconnect, as per instructions posted here a few weeks ago, is already off.

I can't change ESSID because there isn't one in use here, and it doesn't allow you to leave it blank if the default box is unchecked.  In other words, "Any" should be correct- that's what worked before.

Okay, i take that back.  I'm assuming that something about auto-detection of SSID was broken, and the FAQ was trying to say that now we have to specify SSID.  I didn't realize before that the SSID was being autodetected for the school network, because i had to manually set it for some networks, but the school's worked with "Any".  Now that i have it set manually, it works.

Thanks, and sorry to bother you.  I am curious why the "Any" is broken now, though.

Hi, Maslovsky. New Cacko ROM 1.22 is almost perfect. I think all problems which I noticed were mentioned in the forum. Just one cosmetic modification from me if possible. Could you disable background scrolling? When I have many icons on screen I use scroll bar. Unfortunately it does scroll background as well. It would be great to scroll icons only without background.

I'm just happy with Cacko 1.22 @ C860 and looking forward to buy WiFi and bluetooth CFs for it.

    1. could I choose Socket BT CF (brand new - I think, rev G) ?
Reasons: nice design, flawless connectivity with my Nokia 6310i.
Have all issues (particulary, with suspend/resume) been resolved?
Note: it should work with my notebook under SuSE Linux 9.2 (with PC Card adapter)
    Alternative: Pretec

    2. could I choose Socket WiFi CF ?
    Reason: low power.

    Ouch.

In the future just go to a console prompt and type:

    ipkg remove error

It will give some complaint about not finding the package "error" and then say it is purging all references to "error" from the database, and then you shouldn't get that message anymore.

    Switch on from keyboard

Just cleaned my keyboard & found that I could switch on the Zaurus by pressing the Calendar, Address, Mail or Home keys, it does NOT work if you also use the Fn key. Home key also performs it's usual function after a brief pause.

Nice feature as I find the rear switch a bit hit & miss.

I'm not shure about that, but i feel, that kino leaves the z underclocked, when leaving from playing mp3. At least, the overall performance is rather sluggish afterwards.

    Cacko ROM sucks ass!

This is by far the worst rom ive seen out of many.  They made suspend even worse than it was on Sharp ROM, wireless is horrible, and there is no Opera or any other browser installed.  But alas, its filled with crappy programs that nobody uses, a cyrillic font support, which I must say is USELESS (even though I'm Russian myself),   after I installed Cacko it formatted SD card (64 mb) and out of 32 + 64 mb I had less than 10 megs left

I hope the guys who made Cacko format their hard drives, quit their day jobs and take a long walk off a short cliff

You know this type of posting from cronx is not helpful at all.  If you don't like a particluar ROM , then post what you don't like about it.  But the rest of the posting is garbage.  There is a huge following for the CACKO Rom, so there must be a lot of people who do like it.  (yes, I am one of them),  if there is something not working, and you have read the faq's and explored a little on this forum another words, done a little fact finding on your own, then please ask for help. There is a a lot of information on these boards.  But degenerating someone else's work isn't appreciated at all.   Most of the time, you are using somthing that someone has done out of a labor of love.  So stop bitching and write your own ROM and/or find a way to help.  I have found there are some very helpful and knowledgable people here. But we all need respect.

I flashed the new Cacko on my C870 today. It looks very nice.

I have few questions here, please help.

    1. My Corega wifi card doesn't work. Even i try to install the driver. Any idea?

    2. How can I remove the "blue wallpaper" from this ROM?

    3. if I do factory reset now, what do you think my C870 will be? Will it return to the original ROM? or else?

    1.  Could you insert your card and run the following from the command line:

    cardctl ident
    lsmod

Then post the output to this forum.

    2.  Changing the Wallpaper in the Settings/Appearance application doesn't work for you?  If you want a different default and changing it with Appearance app is just too easy you could change the link under /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/wallpaper/default.png to point to something else.

    3.  A NAND restore will put the Sharp ROM back on your Zaurus exactly as it was.

    Thanks!

What if you add an entry like this in your /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf:

    card "Corega WLCFL-11 Wireless Card"
       manfid 0xc00f, 0x0000
       bind "hostap_cs"

Reboot your Z or restart pcmcia:

    sudo /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia stop
    sudo /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start

Then insert your CF card.  Does that work?

I do not have any of the Japanese support installed, but the text on [a href=\"http://www.sharp.co.jp]http://www.sharp.co.jp[/url] comes up fine in NetFront.  I only see a problem with Opera....

Try installing the opera-chartable package on the feed. This is the updated chartable from the 1.21 ROM that helped Opera display bi-di fonts.  I just tested this package and it works fine on my Cacko-lite install.  Let me know if you have problems.

Are you using the lite or the Regular version of the ROM?  I might have to do some changes to get it working on the regular ROM as I do not have it installed at the moment.

Try the latest version of the opera-chartable package on the feed.  I added a test to the post and pre install scripts that should work on the regular Cacko ROM, but I haven't tested it.

I'd really like to use one of them as an ON indicator when my Z is closed.and on battery. I could elaborate, but it's futile if you don't have an API to work with.  Any plans?

Controling LEDs is not a problem, but there is no way to know if lid was closed or open, it's just a trigger, which emmits the same keycode whenever lid is opened or closed.

Yeah, that happened to me w/ Opera. (cacko 1.22 w/o hotfix.) One time it worked, and then the next time I tried to run it it just freezes like it is going to open - but never does. I haven't wanted to reflash cuz I got it set up perfectly right now. It took me a while to get my wireless card going, and so I don't want to do that all over again if I can help it.  So now I use Netfront, but I do miss Opera.

One more option is to reflash your Zaurus with larger root partition. Allocate 28 Mb instead of 27. You may have some bad blocks in your internal flash, which may cause these problems.

I'm just trying out the Cacho 1.22 ROM, and I love it. However...

It would appear that suspending is disabled. When not on AC, the zaurus never suspends, the power key doesn't work... All in all, not good.

I tried suspending by enabling the power key in /proc, and by using apm --suspend. With both, it works but when I resume qpe starts taking 99% of the CPU. Everything else works fine - if I restart qpe, it's fine...

But having to restart the GUI every time I come out of suspend is not exactly ideal...

Reflashed with 30MByte root  & HancomWord working correctly.

Also updated the Cackoo instructions as I missed 1 stage & added a section on restoring from a backup, making it clear that this should only be used when reflashing with same version of Cackoo ROM.

    Hi,

I really love the 1.22 ROM.  It makes my Dynamism C700 about what I had originally hoped for when I got the unit in March 2003.

Can you tell me if reflashing with a larger root partition size might help me?  I too have some applications that seem to install properly, but when you start them, the icon just stays frozen, like its trying to start.  I don't have my SL-C700 with me, so I can't give you the spefic apps, but this happens with 5 or 6 programs I downloaded and tried to get running.

Also, kino2 just doens't seem to work right.  It starts up, takes forever to get to the file list, and when I start playing an mp3 file, it takes about 15 seconds to start playing, usually well into the begining of the song.  Then the song is "choppy" for about 5 seconds, then finally settles out and plays.  The play bar and time run time of song are never right either.  They always seem to come up with 1:03 minutes, no matter that the song I'm playing is 9 minutes long.  The progress bar gets to the end and stays there, and the progress minutes counts correctly, but you end up with 1:03 of song, and the running play time increments to the proper value.  I can live with the bar thing, but the slow start / choppiness is bothersome.

Here's a dumb question.  Could any of these problems be related to the fact that I have an original SL-C700, the first of the CXXX series?  Since it has the smallest amount of maximum RAM/ROM, could this be an issue?  Does the 1.22 ROM "work better" on the later units with more RAM/ROM?

I use my C700 as an mp3 player every couple of weeks when I travel to Albuquerque.  The old Sharp ROM mplayer worked fine for my needs.  The kino2 just doens't work well enough for me.

If I can't fix the underlying problem, is there a quicker less capable mp3 player you guys can recommend?  I don't need video, just mp3 audio.  If this post is in the wrong place, I appologize, feel free to put it in the right place.

    Thanks,

    Stu

This is not a default behaviour for the ROM. It must be something you have installed. Try to remember, which packages you've installed recently.

    Hi Anton, et. al.,

I'm new to the Zaurus (had mine 'bout a week now) and also fairly new to Linux.  I did my homework in the forums while waiting for my Z to arrive (a C860 btw) and played around a little with the Sharp ROM before deciding to flash it with Cacko 1.22.

Overall the experience has been very positive - I can see why you get such rave reviews from the other users.  Good job!  However, I thought I might also be able to add some input from the perspective a complete newbie.  If nothing else it will give you a couple of laughs!

First, the Installation Notes as seen in the Readme.  (I've added my comments in blue.)

        1. Extract the 3 files - initrd.bin tools.tar updater.sh - to the root of your CF or SD/MMC card.  (An explanation or link to the defn of "root" would be helpful for the truly novice user - luckily I wasn't that new - but I did question myself and worry if it had to be the top hierarchical structure or a directory called "root")
        2. Make sure that Zaurus isn't plugged into AC power.
        3. Remove battery for at least 5 seconds.
        4. Replace battery (replace battery cover, lock cover), plug in AC power.  (I didn't plug in the AC adapter until step 7 - it was a bit confusing since you had specified plugging in in steps 4 and 7!  This worked for me, but I haven't played around with other possibile routines.  I did wonder if you meant that the barrel end was to be plugged into the Zaurus here in step 4, while the plug would remain out of the wall socket until step 7...)
        5. Press and hold the "OK" button on the keyboard.
        6. Turn the power on, you should see the Japanese service menu.
        7. Now Plug in the Power Cord. (You will get an error if it isn't plugged in!)
        8. Select option 4 (flash/update).
        9. You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)
        10. Choose either option 2 or 3, depending on which media you put the files on.  (A warning screen entirely in Japanese comes up at this point.  You need to select Y to continue.  Major panic ensued at this point - oh my god, what did I just tell it to do?!)

        11. Select "5 Flash repartition", enter 27 when prompted for root partition size.  (I used a larger partition based on the errors users were reporting in the forum...went with 28 - oh my!)
        12. Flash will be repartioned and Zaurus will reboot.  (I couldn't get my Z to turn off after this reboot.  The prompt said 'Enter Runlevel'  and the On/Off switch of the Z was unresponsive.  I ended up pulling the battery to kill it.  )
        13. Repeat steps 2-10 again and wait for the menu start menu.
        14. Now select "1 Install new ROM" and wait - Zaurus will reboot.  (Prior to the Z rebooting, you are told that it is recommneded to format the user flash.  Since you recommended it, I did it!  Then the Z reboots.)

Second, I decided to go with the full Cacko 1.22, not the lite version, but it would be very nice to know what packages are included in this.  I gathered from the 1.22 Lite readme file that the packages that had been excluded in the Lite version would be in the full version.  But still it would be helpful to have a fully inclusive list of what's in the ROM.  This may be too cumbersome though and my ignorance is showing...

That's about it for now.  I hope that my comments are helpful.  I've noticed an immediate improvement in using my Z with the new ROM and continue to play and learn with it.  Thanks for all your hard work.

    Jen

P.S.  As an aside - do you know of a Frotz package (or other Z-code emulator) for the Cacko 1.22 ROM?  I tried the  2.42_arm.ipk and 2.32_arm.ipk from the Zaurus Software Index, but they give me an error when I try to install...thanks.

Thanks for your comments, I'm sure they wil usefull for the novice users. I agree that most of the obvious things for advanced users are not that obvious for others

If you look at the downloads section of ZUG site, you'll find older version of the ROMs along with descriptions of what was new and updated from version to version up to 1.22a.

Yeah - I was hoping.  I thought my comments might be useful in clarifying the installations steps.  Maybe you'll add a comment about the warning screen for the next rev.

Also, still curious about the power thing.  What was the original intent?  When should you add the ac adapter, step 4 or 7?

And the inability to power off my Z at step 12 - what should I have done to get the unit powered down safely?

I did actually get the readme files for past versions - back to 1.20 - but I didn't find a listing of the packages included in the ROM.  I'll go back further and keep looking.  Can you point me to the revision I need to look at?

    Thanks!

OK - Thanks!  Looks like I did the right things by pure dumb luck - whoohoo!

As for the listing - I was looking for one stop to show what all was installed with the ROM package - no biggie though.  More for my edification and education as I try to come up to speed...I'm sure there's a way to have linux tell you this.  I'll figure it out... eventually.

    Hi,
    I have two questions:
    1) what is the source of updater.sh? (where can I find this source file and what
to do to get distributed updater.sh for cacko 1.22?)
2)where are the sourcec of ELF-files:
    dialog
    eraseall
    modparam
    ?
    Thanks in advance

I use the Sharp media player + 860 extensively as an MP3 player (the remote makes the Z into one heck of a nice portable media player), and I don't think I've ever seen the Sharp media player lock the device in the 5 months I've been using it.

Are you playing off an SD or CF card? Is it a particular file that seems to do it?

Just holding the "OK"-button while rebooting (from the shutdown menu or console or flash menu) does the trick. (instead of pulling out and putting back batteries all the time).
I have read in these forums that the charging-circuit is the most fragile part of the Z, so I prefer leaving my battery where it should be.

Well, it seems to be just a particular file, I've tested it with 200MBs or varying tracks (left it playing all night) and it was fine in the morning. It just seems picky about what it will or won't play, as the track that crashed media player played fine in amarok at work and in foobar at home.

how hard would it be to get cacko going on a 6k?

EDIT: apparently much of the cacko feed will run on the 6k.  Maybe it would just be a matter of popping a version of the fast kernel in with the lite (since the 6k has only 64m) initrd on a cf?  or something along those lines?

You have time to write down a few pointers for me?
If I knew the following, I think this would be easy. (how often have you said..if I knew X this would be easy? lmao)

1). since you mention it, video drivers. How can I "pull" the  included sharp drivers for use in cacko..it is in ..libqpe? something like that? should I just "cut'n'paste in a few libs off the ole sharprom? Can fbdev be used? How much will that slow things? (the x11 roms or at least OZ/gpe use straight fbdev, don't they?)

2). (I can try this myself, but maybe not very effectively) how do I modify /tools and updater.sh to include a different kernel?

I'd be happy to (try to)build a sort of frankenrom that could be turned into a real, useable cacko6000.  It looks like guylhem is making progress on a "large nand partition, no stupid symlinks setup"  maybe a cackoized rom would be good w/ that?

Ok, unfortunately I am also experiencing a WIFI problem:

I use the D-LINK DCF-660W. After the Hotfix it is recognised well. But I cannot get a connection.

    When not using DHCP:

The C860 tries to connect (LED flashing, "Start connecting" message) but finishes with a red connection symbol shortly folloews with the message "No connection detected. Check your WEB Key settings and/or TCP/IP settings"). The connection is then disconnected.

    When using DHCP:

The C860 tries to connect (LED flashing, and animated connection plug) but stops without showing any further message.

I checked the WEP settings (also in config files), I read all threads and FAQs, I made numerous new flashes, tried it with patch and without patch but noting helps.

    Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help. :-(

BTW: Kismet works fine. And the problem persists regardless of the AP I try to connect to.

Controling LEDs is not a problem, but there is no way to know if lid was closed or open, it's just a trigger, which emmits the same keycode whenever lid is opened or closed.

Can't you poll the current screen resolution? That should give you the orientation.

Like I said in the other thread, leave the applet running (you can disable the icon in the options if you don't like that), and set the SS module to none, so it'll launch nothing when it's been idle for a while.

No, like I said the same keycode is generated by Qtopia whenever lid is opened or closed. The current state is definitly kept in somewhere Qtopia, but I can't do the same because it will be unreliable. A very simple example: user closes the lid, then turns Zaurus off, opens the lid and turns Zaurus on.  Since application cannot detect the suspend event, it completely looses track of the lid state...

If you can grab the qcop message stream somehow (like qcop test does) then you might be able to use that as a way of detecting lid state.

Here is some data captured with qcop test on C760 running Cacko Lite + Japanese.

    Lid closed

    23:43:36 - Recv - setBacklight(int) int : - 5

    Lid opened

    23:46:01 - Recv - setBacklight(int) int : - 3

    Close Lid then power off

    23:54:16 - Recv - setBacklight(int) int : -5
    23:54:20 - Recv - suspending()

    Open lid then power on

    23:56:16 - Recv - setBacklight(int) int : -3
    23:56:16 - Recv - resumed()
    23:56:16 - Recv - setBacklight(int) int : -3  --- Yes it did give 2 of these

I think that setBacklight to -5 is an indicator that the screen has LCD has gone off rather than than the lid being closed.

I'll test further and report back. (I'll also see if qcop test sheds any light on why the light applet blanks screen when rotated at lowest level. while lowering the level by Fn+3 doesn't)

Unfortnately that doesn't help either. All I see is that brightness levels are being set, pretty much if user was changing brightness level manualy

Yes, looks like I can trap suspend and resume event, but that still doesn't give a reliable way to figure out what's the status of the lid...

But that doesn't really matter. I'd be just as happy with blinky led indicating the Z is on when the LCD is off as with a led indicating the Z is on and the lid is closed. I'd basically just like a visual cue from the led when you can't tell it from the Zaurus itself.
It'd actually be better if that led blinked anytime the Z was on with a keyboard off.

Combining that with throttling to 200mhz when the LCD is off would allow someone to carry the Z on all day. I don't need the Z to suspend when I close the lid, since there's no way to start it again when you open it. But a blinky led and a throttle CPU would allow a user to close it and keep a very fast startup time (just the time for the LCD to turn back on, since throttling back to full speed is pretty much instantaneous).

    Ideas, comments, insults?

    Dear experts,

I can still not get a connection with my D-Link DCF-660W w-lan card. Maybe someone can tell me - not a Linux expert - what is going on by looking at the attached dmesg output. It contains lot's of wifi0 errors. :-(

    Thanks!

    Yea! This would be nice!
Just one question aeh... if i close the LCD, the zaurus goes to suspend right? Does it consume more power as if the cpu is throttled when closing the lcd?

I cannot find any battery change applet tovarish mentioned here:

No, when you close the lid the LCD's power gets cut off, but that's it.
You can't really get a usable solution out of "suspend on lid close" because there's no hardware to wake the damn thing back up when you open it again. That's why the throttle is an attractive idea: if the Z isn't suspended but just down-clocked, it can still monitor for a state change and go back to normal operation when you open it.

I still don't know whether it's feasable though, Mas hasn't weighted in yet.

I like that idea a lot, but mightn't it cause stability problems?  When i set Kino to downclock, my Z gets confused eventually.  Maybe that's just kino?

Ev1l, will you please explain how you were able to disable the screen saver?

I also use Kino with the lid down in the car.  Suspend would not add to the usability of my Z in my case.  There is a little button on the outside that can be pressed as you close the lid though......... ;-)

Set the screen-saver module to (none) in the LSUSSSU applet, and let the tray applet running (you can set the icon to not appear, but the applet must run)

    Hi all -

I just flashed my 860 with 1.22.  I agree with everyone, very nice.  A few observations...

Like others, I had probs getting my DLink 660 WiFi CF card to work.  Apart from the other suggestions in this thread, it turns out that the ESSID field in 1.22 must _not_ contain a name with  a space.  My AirPort ESSID was called "AP 1", but the Z wouldn't take this.  Solution: reconfigure my AirPort with a new ESSID name "AP1" omitting the space in the name.  Voila!

Now I am trying to customize smb.conf.  It seems that /usr is mounted read-only; I can't write it even as SU.  Is this normal?  Why is this?  I flashed the Z with a 28mb root.  Is there something I am overlooking?

    # cd /usr/lib.rom/samba/
    # ls -l
    drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           37 Apr  7  2004 codepages
    -rw-r--r--    1 root     root          905 Apr  7  2004 smb.conf
    # chmod g+w smb.conf
    smb.conf: Read-only file system
    #
    # whoami
    root
    # id
    uid=0(root) gid=0(root)
    #
    # df -h
Filesystem                Size      Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/root                28.0M     28.0M         0 100% /
    /dev/ram1                44.0k     26.0k     18.0k  59% /dev

You need to remount the partition read/write before you can edit the file, I think.

I forgot I saw this one before in 1.21.   (note: I was doing this too late at night)!    /usr is mounted as a cramfs or squashfs image, and can't be set rw.  There is a work around, however:

    https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=26&t=4713

The other thing about the base station SSID not containing spaces is maybe something that should go in the FAQ?

    FWIW,

    C!

I am new here using C860, and just installed the cacko 1.22, but need advise how to make the Symbol Wifi works. Please advise.

    Thank you.

After studying the msgs, finally got the Symbol card working, smiling all the way while surfing the internet, it is fast, and much faster than my the other unit of Sigmarion III.

Input of SSID in the c860 is the key to make the Symbol cf card running (but at the same timeI turned off the autoconnection)

Somehow, I still failed to install the ipk files (qpe-filemanager, zeditor) which are needed to edit the conf files. For some reason, during installing the ipk file, the installer will pop up an error msg "The filename of this package includes character this application can't handle. Please change the filename and retry install". Really need help on this.

Using the Konsole is tough for me which need some times to catch up.

    Thank you very much.

Suggestion for an additional entry in the hostap_cs.conf file:

card "WAVEline Compact Flash Wireless Adapter"
version "Compu-Shack Production GmbH", "WAVEline Compact Flash Wireless Adapter", ""
      #manfid 0xd601, 0x0002
      bind "hostap_cs"

With this new card I finally can use Wifi again. But I still do not know what the problem with the old one was...

Anyone managed to get Planex GW-CF11X to work with Cacko 1.22? It works in OpenZaurus (but there my PHS AirH" card doesn't work so no good + I prefer Cacko). Prism3 based apparently and needs to have some firmware uploaded - which happens on OpenZaurus (though it detects it and uploads SanDisk Connect Plus.. but that seems to work fine).

    Observations:

I plug in the card and a pop-up says it's a Planex etc.

Seems to show up at eth0 rather than wlan0.

Wireless Monitor claims 100% quality, but there isn't any signal etc. the card doesn't show any link either so it's dead.

Tried all the solutions listed earlier in this thread and the ones in Cacko FAQ, but they don't work (uploading the .hex returns an error about input/output). As a side note, OpenZaurus seems to flash using a differently tool?

    cardctl status always shows "[suspended]".

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
