Title: Cacko 1.22 Flash Error
Post by: wmadan on December 31, 2004, 12:24:53 pm
I have an SL-C860. I have followed the directions to create a 27 MB root partition and when I get to about 78% of flashing the new ROM image I get an error message: "RO file system: error while flashing. Your root partition may be too small. Resize it to the minimum recommended size and try again."

I went back in and repeated the steps to create a 27 MB root partition and the same message occurred. I also tried it for 50 MB with the same error message.

Odd.  I did 50 and had no problems, also with C860.

You should create the new partition and then reboot.  After the reboot you should be able to run through the ROM install process.  I have done it three times without fail on my c860.

Hope this helps.

No need for 50 Megs, you'll waste 50-27=23 of them.... 27 Mb is enough.

I did 27 MB and then true, have to do the reboot process (take out batteries etc) and then reflashed and it went smooth.

Okay,  here's an update. I was able to get the ROM to flash successfully with a 50 MB root partition, but then when I tried again to flash it with a 27 MB root, I got the same error as before. Is there any reason why this would happen?

Sometimes internal NAND flash contains bad blocks, in that case, you may need to allocate some more space than needed, so that when format skips bas blocks you still have enough free space...

I was flashed C860 with pdaXrom 1.1.0 RC8 (121Mb root partition set). What is the exact procedure of reflashing my Z with Cacko 1.22? I just afraid of got my Z bricked.

The flashing procedure is similar to pdaXrom, but first you must select "Flash Repartition" from the installer menu, type in 27 as the size of your root partition, and then the unit will reboot. Then you select "install Rom" and then the unit will flash the new rom. After that, the install procedure will display a message saying that it will format the user ram and then you're done. Make sure to read the readme fill in the package before you begin.
