Quick news from the labs in Russia and Denmark:
Rom wise:
XServer will updated for Tosa Akita and Collie in next release, SL-C3100 support will added in next RC for Akita devices.
New live CD for ROM developers (with installed cross tools), current liveCD only for core developers.
Also preparing "pdaXrom/dance" Sashz new simple embedded GUI for small devices with small screens.
It already works on x86, arm, sh-4 and h8 CPUs, and support generic linux framebuffer, linux keyboard,
touchscreen mouse emulation, sega dreamcast framebuffer, sega keyboard, sega joustick, sega keyboard,
cybiko LCD controller, cybiko keypad.
For embedded devices with limited ROM/flash it use simple singletask monitor. For embedded targets its uses gcc xchain with newlib.
Website
The new website with a completely new CMS built from scratch is almost done. The new design/look of the website will be implemented tonight hopefully. The first "prototype" will hav full web editor for content editors and image upload - this will probally be ready tomorrow evening.
Then the comment function, bug reporting system and bounty system will probally be next. And the feeds with developers havin g 100% control for updating and editing. We will probally also make it so that the sources for the ipks can be uploaded for each - this should help people trying to compile a newer version etc.
We will also be making a news/blog section where our main developers will be posting news - and if our developers have the time we hope to make IRCs sessions for developers and "education/turtorials" online.

Looks like a great beginning! I would like to just comment on some bits. First: bug reporting, feature requesting and the bounty system should be the same thing: that is, people either file a bug report or a feature request, and then it should be possible to put money on it, and to comment on it. Well I guess it is obvious, but just in case
Second: it would be really nice if the package maintainers upload ONLY the source, and the whole compilation task is done server-side. This way the migration to the new toolchains is automatic, there is no redundancy, the sources are always working for people who download them, and so on. This scheme is used on Debian and I guess in pretty much every other major distribution too. I understand this is no obvious task to implement immediately (you'd need to set the rules for the maintainers of how to arrange the source packages, put the compilation infrastructure up, think about security and so on), but just think a bit on it, maybe you'd like the idea
Overall, looks promising, just don't loose the momentum on your way to success
-
Too bad! No C3k support is added
any info about the C3k support?
I am really interested in your good work
-
Another status update: Sash is currently working on RC11 with the new 4.0.5 X server which should give, among other things, new acceleration stuff for Corgi users (new Ati acceleration stuff), Akita and Tosa (PXA accel routines), and hopefully fix the big font problem when rotating.
-
As for bug reporting, I saw a system on a site which had a list of all the known bugs, and it worked like a forum for each bug until each was resolved and filed in the fixed category. That might help people sort out bugs and prevent endless bug posts in this forum? Just an idea.
Any plans to change the default set of apps? I get the impression some would like a totally lean version, with noting pre-installed, so they can put just what they want and some would like a totally apped out version, so it's the easy, allinone experience.
I'd love to see a road map, like the have for gnome and kde listing all the objectives for the next release. That's be a cool feature and like you say people can post on the forum to say what they think about the roadmap and if you like the suggestions, you can take them on board.
-
There will be a slimmed version with no preinstalled apps and one with all the trimmings.
-
Hey hey - im now done with the core cms system and the editor is ready - they system is very flexible and im pretty happy with it so far.
I will be looking into the bug reporting/bounty system this weekend and probally also the feeds. At the same time the first prototype will be available and i hope some of new content editors will beging work on the actual content.

Someone already asked this question in this thread, but I do not see the answer. In fact, this question has been asked in other threads also, and I did not see a good answer. Is pdaXrom ever going to support the SL-C3000 ? Is there a technical reason for not supporting this device ?

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=92978\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
If there is a technical reason, it might just be that the developers don't have access to a C3000?
-
We don't have a C3000 - but sash has talked with some other developers and we might get it working.
-
I like the idea of a slimmed-down featherlight pdaXrom distro. No need to resize my internal flash partition, and the rest can go onto SD or CF!

That would be something I'd like to know how to do.

Status update. I have just tried the latest RC from Sash on my 760 and its execellent - includes new X 4.4.0 (4.5 was full of problems). New fixes and features includes the fixed problem with big fonts on rotation and many other things. We expect to release this in the middle together with the new website - there will both slim versions and full preinstalled roms.
The delays on the website are 100% due to my real work taking up to much time of my sparetime :-)
-
.....gggg...
I need to try the new hacked X server... a better video support for ati w100 was my first interest
Nice guys

Can anyone help you with the website, either to get it up or to maintain it when you've finished it?
Will the slimline version have just the the command line, no gui?
-
Basically: I run the website! - and yes we have other content editors ready - but not until the CMS and main website is completed.
We haven't 100% decided on what the slimline should contain.
-
maybe...
An ultra slim version with no gui so people can decide exactly what they want ontop of the base, be it gnome, kde or whatever - that way no wastage.
A version with your gui, but no real apps, just your config tools
A version that's all apped out with useful apps
-
Any way we can get the new version to play with??
-
Need the Chinese support....
RC10.4 Not Support Chinese Font with Blod & Italic ...
GTK1 Not Support Display Chinese ...
I think it need some patch .
i18n is needed ...

so... will partition resizing work for Akita?

What is the benefit of being able to resize the partition? Would this allow you to put things on the SD card easily so that main memory isn't used, so that you can install more things?

This would allow you to install the .ipk anywhere? Even to an SD? Does it work everytime? With other ROMs there are some successes and some failures with trying to install things elsewhere.

You can edit /etc/ipkg.conf to add the destdir .
But the destdir must BE ext2/3 , jffs2 or other Linux file system .
the "-d user" is install to /home/user
"-d sd " is install to /mnt/card
.....
you can use "fdisk" to partition SD with 2 partions .
/dev/mmca1 & /dev/mmca2
" mkfs.ext3 /dev/mmca2 " to format it to EXT3.
mount it & add it in ipkg.conf .
"dest sd1 /mnt/card1"<---I mount it to there .
install pkg with: "ipkg -d sd1 install xxxx.ipk "
It works fine in my C1000 .
I am sorry my poor English .

Your english seems pretty good to me :-)
Sorry for yet another follow up question. Why would you partition your SD card? Would that be so half is for apps and half for files? Can't you just format it all as one partition and use directories?
-
At a guess; half available to install stuff, half to transfer files from Windows?
Si
-
on filesystems of this size, I can not see any reason to partition.
ya, sure, you want or may need/require a swap partition -- but
other htan that, make one big partition.
making a partition for apps and user/home, etc... is IMnsHO,
just a complete waste of time.

If my MOTO E680 mobile phone & Windows XP support the ext or jffs2 file system .
I will format it to Linux file system.
E680 only use the 1# partition .
Windows can find out all of partitions with card reader and Read Write the 1# partition .

A quick update - regarding the website.
Sadly the big new software project for my "real" work was delayed for a 1-2 weeks - and im working on it like 20 hours a day every day so i don't have much time for pdaxrom.org - but fear no more - i guarentee that the new website will be running before the end of the september :-)
-
E680 runs linux, so you could format it as ext2/3 but you might have to modify some boot scripts (get a telnet client go to 127.0.0.1 ) windows xp can read ext2/3 with a program (dosent show up as a drive you must use a program to copy to/from
as for c3k support if you get the c3100 working i suppose i could modify the boot scripts a bit to get the HD up and running it all depends how small your 'trimied' version is
one side not is that if you included UnionFS you could semi unify the c3x00 and c1k boot scripts by making the hard drive get 'Unioned' with the jffs partion for root and just not do this step for the c1k (i relise there are some other technical issues) one advantage is the you could adapt this to the c1k and 'expand' the 128MB Flash on the c1k to 3GB by using an SD card or more with a CF card by doing the same steps for the c3* but without the hard drive

Again, reviving an older thread rather than starting a new....
Dare I ask what's next for pdaXrom? I'm thinking of donating again, now that it's October, but I'm curious where things are going.
RC11 is great, hands down impressed. All your efforts are appreciated!
Are there plans for an RC12 or will the next be a full release?
What changes/updates/improvements are scheduled?
-
Any plans on releasing a source code and build scripts for rc11 build?
If so, when?
-albertr
-
Hopefully the next release will include heavely optimized stuff for media/video/mp3 playback and sdl libs for games etc. are also optimized. Im trying to get Sash to look into Open Office.
The entire source will of coure be made public ASAP.
-
Awesome!
It all sounds very promising. :-)
-
I know these things are unpredictable, but is there a timetable for the next release and whether it's a RC or a full release?
P.S. Could this topic or a fresh one with a similar purpose be pinned? Could some of the older topics that are pinned and no longer need to be pinned, be taken down?

new rc for C1000 will ready today-tomorrow :-)
New XServer with xrandr support, iwmmx optmization for ffmpeg, mplayer and vlc, new optimized SDL etc:) arghm and beta version Quake2 too.

Woohoo! I strayed into the world of GPE today... I think it's kind to say that pdaxrom appears a more mature solution on the SL-C1000. I look forward to the new RC
