Title: Atari Lynx Emulator Working!
Post by: Fromwithin on March 07, 2006, 02:21:38 am
I noticed that the source for HandySDL has finally been released. By the looks of things, the original author lost the source and started it again. Took me a couple of hours, but I've got it working! I've been after this for years. I love my Lynx.

The screen seems to be rotated for non-clamshell Zaurii, and the sound stutters, but apart from that, it look pretty much full speed on my SL-C750. I'll have a look at rotating it. Make sure you run it in magnified mode.

You'll need the executable (http://fromwithin.com/files/handy_sdl) and the lynx boot rom (http://fromwithin.com/files/lynxboot.img). You'll have find the game roms yourself.

Put the boot rom in the same folder as handy_sdl. You should then run a terminal in magnified mode. Then run handly_sdl from that terminal.

You should go to /home/QtPalmtop/apps/ and into the folder where Qkonsole is. Then edit the desktop file (probably qkonsole.desktop). In that file, you should find a line that says:
Display=640x480/144dpi,480x640/144dpi

Put a hash (#) at the beginning of that line to comment it out. You should then be able to switch it into magnified mode.

Gates of zendicon and zarlor mercenary on my zaurus ?
it's sad but that makes me happier than getting the gta iso to run on my psp (who buys games ???)

And as an old atari user magazine hack it makes me happy to see the stuff's still going :-)

As one of the guys responsible for GTA on the PSP is my oldest friend, and was best man at my wedding (John Li - you'll find him in the credits screen of GTA), I can honestly say that you disgust me, and I hope you get banned from this forum and the ass sued off you for being dumb enough to post shit like that publicly.

Umm, yes, right.
Well I guess the loonies have to be around somewhere. I'm personally disgusted that people want to charge me £35 for a small piece of plastic that cost them 3 pence to make - but hey, each to their own :-)
And kudos to your mate gta lcs is a damn good game :-)
But I think you need to take a chill pill.

Personally I think the idea of gates of zendicon on the zaurus is a standup idea - and I do own the rom :-)
Actually a RELEVANT point.
Anyone got any idea how to turn all my lynx games into roms ? If it was any good I've got it. I'd love to play some of them on my 1.50 psp [span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\'](yes that's one reason I have to use pirated gta, blame sony not me mate - buggered if I'm losing my versatility on something that cost nearly as much as my c860)[/span] as well as my z and possibly on the pc as well.

So loonies aside, how do you turn little plastic lynx games into roms ?

No.

This isn't the time or place to discuss that, or software piracy in general.  If you guys want to debate it, do it through PMs or some message service.  Not here.

That is your warning.

Not actually arguing with you per se. But I just want to know how to change the lynx games I ACTUALLY OWN that I bought from a company that no longer exists in a form to profit from the sale or reproduction of those games (the legal definition of piracy or copyright infringement).

Don't see how that's piracy in any shape or form - do you ?
Even by microsofts standards I would still only be using one version of the software on one machine at any given time.

Plus it's totally relevant to the post and I do miss my lynx shoot em ups.

piracy might be relevant if I had asked where to download roms someone else had made - I haven't and won't.
your call mate - but there's nothing illegal or even slightly dodgy going on :-)

As long as the conversation stays on that topic (how to turn plastic into binary), than I have no problem with it going forward.

Excellent !
So...
Anyone know how ?

If you cant buy the games let alone the system, it's fine by me.
Practicing and encouraging piracy is *not* something OESF will condone, so watch your step, Aardvark.
If you want to make public the fact that you do not want to pay for games on current systems, noone's stopping you, but OESF will not be the platform for it.

Edit your posts, or I will.

I've tried to follow these directions, but I don't see a qkonsole.desktop anywhere.   Is that the real name?

Thanks.

It's called embeddedkonsole.desktop on my C3100. I have Cacko Lite.
I figured this out by using the "Tab Setting" in "Settings" tab.
Select your program icon, then select the "pencil" icon at the bottom.
(This lets you edit application).
The dialog that pops up will give you the name of the program executable, which in this case, has the same name as it's corresponding *.desktop file.
