Hi all,
I tried briefly HV3(see http://tkhtml.tcl.tk/hv3.html (http://tkhtml.tcl.tk/hv3.html)) on my x86 laptop, it renders pages really well, it's fast and seems less buggy than NETSURF 2.0, I am really impressed. It supports HTML, CSS, HTTP and ECMAScript (a.k.a. javascript), frames, tabs, bookmarks(import from firefox), history, download GUI ala epiphany. I wonder if it can be compiled easily for the Z, if it crashes, if it's fast...It is still alpha software. Check it out !
As anyone tried it on old x86 hardware ?
Happy Christmas

If it's Tcl/Tk then it doesn't need to be compiled and should run on any ROM. I downloaded it. It runs fine on my linux desktop but it throws an error at start-up on my Zaurus (Sharp ROM with X/Qt for running Tcl/Tk apps). I have tclkit installed both on my desktop and on my Zaurus and I downloaded the .kit file on the browser's website. It complains on the Zaurus about some file with a random name (which changes at each invocation) in the /tmp/ directory. I'll keep investigating. Thanks for the pointer.
Edit: Looks like it needs Tkhtml, to be found on the same website. Unfortunately, this is not a pure tcl thing but a compiled new widget. To make the browser work on the Zaurus, Tkhtml needs to be compiled for the Zaurus. If somebody can do that (the sources are on the website), I'll be happy to try again.

Looks good. I'll get that compiled tomorrow if I have time. I just started pestering the NetSurf folks trying to get it to work on the Z yesterday, so that might wind up as a viable option.

Anything more advanced than dillo, that is not such a hog as firefox, on pdaxrom is a very welcome addition.
I've tried the "other" browsers posted here in the pdaxrom forum, but most were either too unstable, (osb-browser, gpe-mini-browser) - too much of a hog, (minimo) - or too minimal (dillo, links).
Last but not least, I like epiphany, but it requires firefox, (mozilla files) to be installed.
I still prefer opera on cacko/sharp, even though it's as ancient as some old chippendale furniture...

maybe the webkit browser in android will be something along the lines you are suggesting?
