Title: C860 won\'t turn on
Post by: gnarlog on April 24, 2004, 04:01:35 am
Hi there,

I just installed the latest pdaX rom on my new c860. Very exciting to be able to drag windows around on such a small device! Anyway, I set the Zaurus down(disconnected from ac power), and after a few minutes the screen went blank. I haven\'t been able to turn it on since. I\'ve tried all of the usual stuff, leaving the battery out for a few hours, letting it charge over night -- no luck. I did notice that even before I installed the X11 rom, the battery charge indicator(Sharp Rom) always indicated that the battery was very low regardless of how long I charged it. I\'m not sure what to try now. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt

You could buy a scond battery. Maybe the smaller one: its cheaper and makes the C860 thinner.
Just to make sure...

good luck!

Hey all,

I took vishnja\'s advice(thanks!) and ordered another battetry. On a whim I plugged the power cord back into the device, and about a half hour later I noticed that the power light was flashing. Does anyone know what that means?

Thanks,

Matt

Hm, I never experienced this one, but you should check out this URL: http://zaurus.xavierxeon.de/zaurus.php?gro...n&topic=stories (http://zaurus.xavierxeon.de/zaurus.php?group=main&topic=stories)

He seemed to have a similiar kind of problem, though with another Zaurus model:

\"Well OZ3 came along and i had to test it. I flashed my Z and i really liked it. I deceided to get myself a new SD card (the lexar from above) and while waiting for the card to arrive i switched back to crows rom for a while. I had the Z in the crade in my office when a colleage stoped by to see my Z. After some time he left (i think he liked it) and i put the Z back into the caradle, where it froze.

Well things happen and i deceided to go for a soft reset. After flipping the battery switch back to \"normal\" position the Z did not boot, so i thought i do a hard reset (with crows rom you do not lose any data). After the hard reset the Z still did not boot.

I thought that maybe it did not have enough power, so i put on the power supply and was rewarded with a blinking power led !
But it still did not boot. I tried a couple of things like leaving it on the power, hard reset, taking the battery out and putting it in again and flashing a new rom but it still would just blink (the flashing went fine).

So i unplugged the power and took out the battery and left it like that for a whole night. The next morning i put in the battery and it JUST WORKEDTM. The sharp rom (the latest i tried to flash last evening) booted nicely. \"

Tell us, what happend with the new battery!
cheers,
Kathrin

Greetings X junkies,

So it seems my problem is that my c860 isn\'t charging the battery. I got a new battery, put it in, and it fired right up. The battery indicator showed that it was at about 40 percent, and when I connected the power it said that it was fully charged. Every time I disconnect the power, it drops back down to where it was before I connected the power. So as long as I have the power connected, I can use the machine indefinatatey, but I can\'t charge the battery any. I\'ve tried using the 1 amp adapter that came with the machine, and I\'ve also tried a 2 amp adapter that I bought at Radio Shack. I guess I can just buy one of those dedicated chargers, but does anyone have any idea why this is happening? On a happier note, pdaX is the coolest thing I\'ve ever seen!

Hey there,

I just noticed that in the services menu on page 3, bottom right, there is a cell that says CHARGE: off. Anyone know what that is? I was tempted to turn it on, but I\'m a newbie, and I\'ve heard a lot of horror stories surrounding services menu mishaps.

Thanks,

Matt
