If by 3 series you mean the number taped to the back of the unit, well I do not think so. The number is 27009124. If you are still interested, email me at cox.net@edieguez  <-- obviously switch the stuff on either side of the @.

I am selling a used 5500 in EXCELLENT condition with the D-Link 660W Air compactflash 802.11b card and a Crucial 128M CF card for $200.00 including shipping anywhere (standard US postal package) in the continental United States.  I am using a non-original stylus that is the same width as the original Sharp stylus but metallic and extending approximately 0.5 cm longer. The original cradle is included.

I need a few days to wipe the data clean off the machine and re-flash to either the standard Sharp ROM or the TKC 1.0 ROM. I expect to part with the machine as soon as next week if anyone is interested.

A simple check is my preferred method of payment.

General Discussion / Sharp Leaves Pda Market In USA

Wow makes me feel happy I didn't lay $700 down for the 6000L like I was thinking. This is truly sad :-(. At this point, I've given up and I am thinking of getting a Dell Axim instead.

What you need is a subnotebook. Look at the Toshiba R100:

General Discussion / Zaurus 5500 Lifespan
« on: August 27, 2004, 03:44:30 pm »
I have a 5500 and I am asking myself the same question. I am vacillating between selling it and getting myself a 6000L or selling it and getting a Japanese subnotebook (Toshiba Portege R100 or maybe the Panasonic W2) and a Palm PDA. Sure the subnotebook + Palm will put me back $2K versus $700 for the 6000L but the performance/price ratio would probably be greater if i went with the subnotebook and PDA rather than the Zaurus. This is especially true when I consider the fact I spent most of my time with the Z flashing/test/flash/test/.... rather than just working with it. The crazy price of the 6000L doesn't seem to be worth it considering you can get a subnotebook with all its capabilities and more + larger screen. Pair that with a $200 Palm pilot (which you can SYNC with linux) and the Zaurus line seems like a poor investment.

6000 - Tosa / Thinking of getting a 6000
« on: August 22, 2004, 10:12:47 am »
1. How does the 6000 stack up with respect to its PIM software? I'd like to get it because its a mini-computer but without decent PIM software its usefulness will be greatly diminished. I imagine zautrix's PIM software should run...

2. How is the battery life in the real world? I hate that the 5500 dies in about an hour. That is much too short for useful work. And I'd like to know the battery life when the backlight is set to maximum.

3. Can you really connect any USB device? I'd love to be able to connect it to external hard drives.

4. Can you connect the 6000 to any computer and have it automatically appear as an external hard drive? Or do you need special software?

5. How many dead pixels? I read somewhere Sharp claims fewer than 0.01% but for a screen with 640x480 pixels that is almost 30 pixels! Unacceptable...

well, I'll never understand why guys splitting programmers resources in this way.

People do this for a hobby. It isn't a job. If you want concentrated programmer resources, hire people. Don't whine and complain they do whatever they feel like doing.

Then some others, you broke the licence some points:
4. You must put sources at the same place like the binary - read the GPL again. Not CVS, but generate a source-archiv and put it at the same place the binary resides.

The GPL doesn't require you to put anything online. In fact, strictly speaking it only requires you to make the source available on request. It doesn't say you have to put it online or even in the same distribution as the binary.

Anyways, why are you Opie guys always so angry and pissed off at everyone else?

Sharp ROMs / Problem with tkc installs

I am puzzled as to why the demos worked flawlessly and the licensed software failed to install.

Haha that's TKC for you. I own a bunch of their apps and finally stopped using them after KDEPIM/PI came out. Its nutty how a couple of guys can implement everything people want/need in a few weeks and TKC and their team of "developers" can't do it in several months or even years.

Software / PDF viewer recommendations?

It also did that last night on me, and actually hung my Z once. I was opening a 2 meg pdf, but with 70 pages... that was no problem, until i zoomed in on one of the large schematics.

That is strange. I've opened up larger pdfs with hundreds of pages and zoomed without a problem on my 5500.

By the way, there is a new version of qpdf just recently posted on killfiz.
