When I try to boot from CF/Microdrive I get the following:

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly on device 3:3
Freeing init memory: 88K
Warning: Unable to open initial console

Try to copy /dev from SD to microdrive, should be ok.

Is there any way to solve this without installing to a SD-card also? The only thing I have is a Cacko install which I brought back after zubuntu failed to start, but the rootfs is there on the microdrive.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How Do I Grab Silkscreen Keys
« on: November 23, 2007, 03:09:07 am »
I'm working on a tiny tiny mplayer frontend for pdaXii13 that will do nothing but let me use the controls available in portrait mode and save filepositions upon exit. So, apart from scroolwheel and ok + cancel, there is the five screen buttons that I'd like to be able to use in my (python) application, and then restore back to XLaunchers afterwards.

And I'd like to temporary disable screen rotation while mplayer is running, and enable it back afterwards. Anyone who ever rotated the screen while a video was playing with bvdd knows why.

I tried to run xmodmap to remap said keys but that didn't work, xmodmap says they've been remapped, but they haven't. So I need another method.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Installing Rox To Pdaxii13 Base
« on: November 15, 2007, 05:20:22 am »
I found that I really don't need everything in pdaXii13 full so i went for base instead. I do like rox however, but I can't get it to run.
After installing rox, rox-session and the missing dependecies gnome-vfs, dbus & dbus-glib I get the following error when I try to run rox:

/usr/apps/ROX-Filer/Linux-armv5tel/ROX-Filer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so.0: undefined symbol: g_thread_pool_set_sort_function

I guess there has been some version mismatch. Anyone know how to grab the right ones?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Remapping Of The "super" Key In Pdaxii13
« on: April 03, 2007, 09:41:49 am »
Hi
I'm using the very, very excellent pdaxii13 on my C3100. There is one customization that I can't get to work however: I like to move the Super key functionality from the right kanji key to the Calendar key. (I write a lot on my z and for all my previuos ROMs I've gotten used to assign Swedish character ä to this key). I made changes to spitz.xmodmap and remapping the Alt key to Address key works fine (I use left kanji for å), but Super key functionality won't come to the Calendar key. It just disappears from right kanji key and Calendar key ends up doing nothing.
Any help appriciated!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bluetooth Driver Problems
« on: March 12, 2007, 10:35:09 am »
I found the problem. The kernel is broken. The /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/net directory is missing (or if it was empty, without subdirectories like bluetooth) and modules.dep is missing all dependencies for these modules.

Luckily the kernel contained in the hdimage is complete, thus i fixed this by copying the said subfolders and modules.dep from /media/fakeroot/ to the rom root (/).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bluetooth Driver Problems

My Ambicom BT card (LSE039) won't work. Cardctl identifies the card OK. The problem is with the driver. Here's the errors you get from 'modprobe bluecard_cs':

/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: unresolved symbol hci_register_dev
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: unresolved symbol hci_recv_frame
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: unresolved symbol hci_unregister_dev
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/bluecard_cs.o: Can't locate module 2

It looks to me like the driver is all broken, is there a fix?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Suspend / Screen Blanking After Inactivity Time

Clarification: Normal suspend / resume using power button or Home button works perfectly OK. It's the automatic suspend / screen blanking after inactivity that doesn't work. I tried changing the settings in the Light & Power settings dialog, but that makes no change.

It should work (at least it did work in beta3).
All I know is that it may depend on the running applets (at least that was my very own conclusion which has not been verified yet). You should have the matchbox-battery-monitor running.
When I was running xfce on beta3, it didn't work. adding the mb-battery-monitor in the systray solved it.

BTW : on r121 it always seems to work.

Solution found: Disable screensaver, remove screensaver panel applet. Now it works.

The settings for suspending and turn off screen after a specific time are not working for me on my C3100. This is very annoying since a mistakenly pushed on button will drain the battery since the unit never goes back to sleep again.

Suggestions?

Ok... I just check the udev rules... it is setup to map to /dev/ttyUSB0

so dont know why it isn't working for you... unless you are using actual /dev/ttyUSBn and not subsituting the "n" for a #

Found it... was in /dev/tts/USB0. Silly me.
Thanx anyway.

I have a USB<->RS232 converter which I plug in to my C3100. The adaptor is recognized and the modules usbserial and ftdi_sio are loaded, this lsmod tells me. However I get no /dev/ttyUSBn so I don't know how to open the serial port.

If anyone who has got a USB-serial adaptor to work can help out on this I would be very grateful.

Linux Issues / How Do You Pronounce The Word "linux"?
« on: October 19, 2006, 03:57:06 pm »

I figure since Linus pronounces it as rhyming with his name in Finnish ("...my name is Lee-noos Torvalds, and I pronounce Lee-nooks as Lee-nooks"), I just "Americanize" the OS the same way as the name ("Line-us"->"Line-ucks").  That way, I'm wrong, but in a predictable way (heh).

Just for the record, Linus native language is Swedish, and that's how he pronounces his name (with a Finlandian accent but it's still Swedish) . I think it is about 8% of the people in Finland that speak Swedish as their first language.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Logged Out From Gpe At Suspend/resume
« on: August 16, 2006, 03:31:00 pm »
Has anybody else got this problem? Or can anyone verify that they can suspend+resume with GPE working OK while running AbiWord or Sylpheed?

« on: July 29, 2006, 08:01:40 am »
Sometimes when I suspend GPE has crashed (or logged me out anyway) when I resume (I get the login screen). I have nailed the problem down to being related to running certain apps, namely:
AbiWord
Sylpheed

Whenever any of these apps are running this problem occurs. For me it's a real showstopper. These are my absolute #1 & #2 apps and I wan't to run them all the time.

Posting this here before making a bug report to check if this is a known issue with a workaround, and (if not) to ask what logs there might be that I could use to accompany such a bug report.
