Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hv3 - Tcl/tk Web Browser
« on: December 26, 2007, 08:17:27 pm »
Hi all,

I tried briefly HV3(see http://tkhtml.tcl.tk/hv3.html) on my x86 laptop, it renders pages really well, it's fast and seems less buggy than NETSURF 2.0, I am really impressed. It supports HTML, CSS, HTTP and ECMAScript (a.k.a. javascript), frames, tabs, bookmarks(import from firefox), history, download GUI ala epiphany. I wonder if it can be compiled easily for the Z, if it crashes, if it's fast...It is still alpha software. Check it out !

As anyone tried it on old x86 hardware ?

Happy Christmas

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fluxbox_1.0.0
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:22:56 pm »
I tried the new fluxbox_1.0.0 package from Capnfish. (compiled for pdaxrom latest 2.6 kernel)
Right click doesn't work on the desktop(pressing Fn + tap).
Alt + tap on a window doesn't drag the window either.
If I substitute the fluxbox_1.0.0 binary file(just the binary file) with the fluxbox_1.0rc2 binary from Dtruchan(compiled for ???),
right click shows the root menu on the desktop but alt + tap on a window doesn't drag the window.
If I substitute the fluxbox_1.0.0 binary file with the fluxbox_0.9.12 binary from Meanie(compiled for beta3),
right click shows the root menu on the desktop AND alt + tap on a window drags the window
I repeat, I just exchanged the fluxbox binary file and didn't touch to any of the config files.

So it seems none of the configuration files can affect the right click and Alt drag behaviour ?
Is fluxbox_1.0.0 just not compiled for the right kernel ?

Of course everything works under openbox

Do people using gmail have the same annoying message each time they want to receive or send messages ? Namely : "SSL certificate verify failed"
Where there any changes on google mail side ?
It works but it's annoying. The problem is rather recent.
I think Pidgin's problem to connect to google talk is the same thing

On pdaxii13 5.4.9

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mpd And Friends
« on: December 04, 2006, 04:49:10 pm »
From New Packages Annoucement:

Quote
MPD and friends - homepage
mpc_0.12.0_armv5tel.ipk
mpd_0.12.1_armv5tel.ipk
glurp_0.11.6_armv5tel.ipk

Low-power music playing goodness! This version of MPD just has Tremor (Vorbis) and MAD (mp3) support, so it should run without any extra packages. Allows gapless playback and crossfading on the Zaurus.

You need to edit /etc/mpd.conf before it'll run.

If anybody wants support for more formats (FLAC, AAC, Musepack, and Mod are possible) just send me a message and I'll see about doing an updated version.

MPC is a scriptable, command-line client for MPD. Glurp is a GTK+2 based client, and is very nice to use - however, it constantly polls the daemon for information about the current song, so it takes up a notable number of CPU cycles to have it running. The music will keep playing if you close it, though (one of the main advantages of MPD).

You can also use Glurp/MPC to control MPD on a remote host - it's a simple setting in Glurp, and you just need to set the MPD_HOST variable for MPC.

Hi Ikkakujyu,

Can you provide a mpd.conf so that the music stored on /mnt/cf2 can be played ?
I am using beta3 as root.

Thanks for the package

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Skipstone As An Alternative Web Browser ?
« on: July 03, 2006, 06:26:22 pm »
From the homepage:
SkipStone is currently under heavy development, but it's progressing quickly and coming along nicely. It provides a nice configurable interface, bookmarks and all of the other mandantory browsing features.

Downloading is handled by SkipDownload by way of a default, a GTK+ front-end to the famous Web downloading utility, wget. However, if you prefer to use other download utilities and managers, this option is configurable.

Mail and external URL handlers are also handled by external applications that can be configured to the user's choice, leaving SkipStone to do what it does best -- browsing.

As anyone tried this browser ? Does it support frames, java, ssl ?
Could it be ported to the Z ?

Any comments is welcome

Linux Issues / Viewing Powerpoint Files With Imposter
« on: June 25, 2006, 04:50:23 pm »
Hi,

Very often I get emails with *.pps or *.ppt files as attachements. I don't want to install openoffice to view them(too big and slow). I'd rather use Imposter but for that I need a converter. Do you know a converter that can convert a powerpoint file into a openoffice file ?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Dia Can't Find Standard Object-libs
« on: March 24, 2006, 01:00:32 pm »
I downloaded dia version 0.95-pre3-1 from 7x0 official feed.
When I launch it from cli I get the dia splash screen and then
Code: [Select]
** (dia:9946): CRITICAL **: Couldn't find standard objects when looking for object-libs in '/usr/lib/dia'; exiting...Thanks

Ps: I am running 1.1.0beta2. If it matters, I noticed that dia is 4,2M big but in the Packages file it's written 13,4M

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mouse Cursor/pointer
« on: January 14, 2006, 09:37:37 am »
Hi,

Is there a way to use the arrow keys (combined with another key) to move the cursor around ?
It's possible on SHARP ROM using "Input-Helper".
It's annoying to use the stylus.

I think it's possible by editing /etc/xdg/openbox/rc.xml and /etc/x11/kb/akita.xmodmap
but I don't know the commands either for moving up/down/left/right or tapping on the screen or how to set the speed of motion, ...

Thanks for any help.
