For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: C1000
« on: December 02, 2007, 09:10:55 pm »
I was given this toy a long time ago, and after two weeks of messing with ROMs, it was just collecting dust.  Battery probably has <5 cycles on it, and it has never been anywhere other than in my hand at home, or inside of a padded case.  It's pretty much new, as I haven't found any real use for it yet.  Comes with both chargers, lanyard, dummy cards, USB host cable, and as many Japanese manuals as I can find. I'll throw in the case, which fits like a glove and protects pretty darn well.  Right now it's running pdaXii13, but I can flash (or leave it) to whatever you want.

I'm selling because I really haven't found a use for this nice toy... too small to type and too large to keep in pocket

Shipping is from Hawaii to anywhere you'd like (you pay for shipping, and you pay first).

My asking price is $250, but I'll keep anything reasonable in mind.  Drop me a PM, reply, and/or send an email to bplaut [at] gmail.

Mahalo!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Ipkg Request: Xfe
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:21:46 pm »
i can't seem to find a filemanager that fits my needs... i want something like IE's file manager, with a tree that coresponds to the main view (like Nautilus's Browser mode)

i found XFE... it claims to be lightweight, and has all the functions i want, so here it is:
http://roland65.free.fr/xfe/

only dependency (AFAIK) is the FOX-toolkit, get version 1.4.x from:
http://www.fox-toolkit.org/download.html

thanks to whoever decides to do this...

i've used pdaXrom for about 3 days now, and i don't really feel very comfortable compiling, just yet (i have enough trouble with it in Ubuntu   )

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openbox Wm+matchbox Desktop+xfce4-panel
« on: July 31, 2005, 05:12:58 pm »
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT WORKS ON C1000, AND NO GARUNTEES ON ANYTHING. IF YOU BRICK IT, IT'S YOUR FAULT

This took a while to figure out, but it turned out to be super simple
first, you need XFCE4 installed, you can find the ipkg at:

http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/....2_armv5tel.ipk

(if someone can make an ipkg of just the panel, that would rock)

and a somewhat vanilla install.

first, backup .xinitrc:

Code: [Select]
cp ~./.xinitrc .xinitrc.bak
next, edit .xinitrc with your favorite text editor (SciTE works nicely).

find this line:

Quote
eval "matchbox-panel --no-flip $MBORIENT" 2>/dev/null

and change it to:

Quote
eval "xfce4-panel"

restart X server, and enjoy

<not working ATM>
to change the background, read this:
http://projects.o-hand.com/matchbox/docume...398.html#AEN401
the file is in /home/root/.matchbox/mb-desktop-background
</not working ATM>

[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']Things that don't work:[/span]

A) When you end your session, any systray applets will have to be put back in apon startx

The backrgound color is an ugly glue, and i have no idea why  , the config file is being weird, as well

C) closing the lid won't blank the screen

D) right click is going to be different for apps and for the panel <<edit>> maybe it works... i'm confused on this one

and i'm sure many more problems that i haven't discovered yet

i'm not a coder, so don't expect me to fix things... but i hope somebody who is a coder will take on those problems

[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']Things that are fixed:[/span]

Over vanilla matchbox:

A) it's got a taskbar

Over XCFE4.2.2:

A) matchbox-desktop (that's a plus for me, anyway)
 auto-rotate works
C)Fn+symbol keys work

Have Fun!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Repo On Sd
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:49:28 am »
is there a way to make a repo on an SD/CF card? it would be nice to be able to make a repo on the desktop, put it on the SD, and transfer it over- so i don't have to deal with dependency hell until i get a WiFi card

possible? any tips?

thanks,
Ben

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Factory Restore C1000
« on: July 26, 2005, 10:38:11 pm »
well, my camera/memory card reader doesn't support transfering files larger than... somehwere over 20mb, so i had to get creative

my plan was to flash to OZ/Opie to get correct partitioning, and then flash to pdaXrom once the partitioning was successful. everything started out pretty much as planned- i transfered over the flashing files (after 2 corrupt downloads, that is   ), flashed, and OZ/Opie popped up onto the screen.

then, i went for the kill. i downloaded the files for flashing to pdaXrom, started to transfer the files, via camera, to the SD  card, and then... initrd.bin stopped it, due to "insufficient system resources to complete this operation". it's a 512mb card, so i assume it is the camera with a transfer limit (it has 30mb internal flash- that may be the culprit). i went on to my next plan: hook up a jumpdrive comtaining the files to the Z, and then copy them over to the SD card. Low and behold, USB Host doesn't exactly work right in OZ, yet.

it took a long time to think of it, but i finally figured out a solution:

Factory Restore Z to the Sharp ROM

put OZ flash files back onto card

via jumpdrive and USB host, get the pdaXrom flash files onto a folder on the card

re-arange the files when in OZ

flash to pdaXrom!

--

first things first... i can't find any instructions on how to do a factory restore to the Sharp ROM... past that, it all seems possible, but i need that step first...

any help would be appreciated

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Connecting Vanilla C1000 To Jumpdrive
« on: July 26, 2005, 03:36:44 pm »
this thing is officially puzzling

there aren't directions anywhere [that i've looked], and yet everyone seems to be able to connect successfully   . i don't need to sync, just transfer files to the Z.

my memory card reader is a digital camera, which has a filesize limit of somewhere less than 39mb, and the file is 40mb   . when i plug it into the desktop, it needs drivers (which i haven't found anywhere), and when i plug it into the jumpdrive- nothing happens. no light, no info in dmesg, nothing. i tried the module to load to activate USB host, but, sadly, it's not found.

any help would be appreciated

Zaurus - pdaXrom / C1000 Installation
« on: July 04, 2005, 06:06:54 pm »
borrowing a 256mb CF from a friend, so i have a few hours to mess around with, and install a rom to my C1000

i am using the sharp ROM, and haven't messed around with the partitions or anything

the questions:

1) the package i need to download is " kathrin-rc10.1-akita.zip", right?

2) i can follow, except for different entries to select CF or SD, the instructions for installation to C860?

3) i just copy the three files in the zip:
updater.sh
initrd.bin
tools.tar

to the root of the blank CF? or is there something with the zImage.bin in the tools.tar archive?

4) during the install, i select the option to partition 50mb for / ?

5) after the second reboot, i will be presented with a CLI login. login as root (so password), and type "startx". this will start matchbox, and give me a calibration screen (in portrait).

6) i can then edit .xinit to give me mouse support (with the D-pad?)?

7) i have ~50mb where i can install programs or store files to.

8) i can then set up usbnet with my Ubuntu laptop?

thanks in advance,
Ben

<<edit>>

forgot:

9) will the update give me a 2.6 kernel?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Ambicom Wl1100c-cf Vs Linksys Wcf12
« on: June 20, 2005, 02:47:33 pm »
yes, i know... there are a million threads on this topic, but i want to be sure before i buy.

the Linksys is much, much cheaper, but i am not sure on compatibility.

will i be able to get full functionality from the Linksys card (scanning... kismet...), without any comprimises?

also, has anyone used both, and have an opinion on the size difference, and the durability of the cases? (oh, battery, too)

Thanks,
-Ben

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Mini-? To Usb
« on: June 19, 2005, 11:01:17 pm »
OK, so the USB Host cable is Mini-A to USB (female?), but what about the sync cable?

i have half a dozen Mini-B to USB (male?), but do those work? as far as i understand, you need the hard to find Mini-A just for the host cable, but i found no info for the sync cable.

i can use a Mini-B sync cable, right?

Thanks,
Ben

« on: June 15, 2005, 01:40:09 pm »
Looking to start accesorizing my Z, so i need some stuff

Socket/Symbol WiFi card, or another low profile, low power card that works with OZ and pdaXrom (not sure which i will use, yet)

256mb SD card, to flash the ROM, and then transfer over to my camera, that has a 512mb SD card (and just so happens to be 5000 miles away (under what conditions i dare not imagine   )

I'm a student, with a very limited budget, so... make offers

oh, and shipping to Hawaii

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Installation From Usb
« on: June 14, 2005, 03:28:58 pm »
i noticed on the pdaXrom, in the instructions for installation, it mentions

Quote
8. You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. Back)

i am curious about option 1, USB. Does this mean that it's possible to install pdaXrom from a USB thumbdrive? I lent my camera to my sister for her vacation iun Kentucky, and she promptly stole my 512mb SD card   , so it would be great to be able to get rid of the sharp ROM as soon as possible.

(pretty much stock English C1000)

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Usb Problems
« on: June 12, 2005, 05:47:13 pm »
I received my C1000 yesterday from Conics, and am having problems from the start (sharp rom in english)

when trying to connect to my Ubuntu laptop via TCP/IP (using the supplied cable), the sync screen aborts in a few seconds, regardless of the settings. I decided that i would figure that out later, as long as i had a way to transfer files to the Z, i was OK. Then i tried my Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256mb using the adaptor supplied by Conics. The light on the drive flashed for about 10 seconds, like it does on my laptop, and then... Nothing Else! the light stays solid, but the "Files" tab still only shows Internal Flash

any help would be appreciated

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Why Open Zaurus?
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:41:45 pm »
i have been hearing alot about OZ, but close to nothing on why you should use it. i will be receiving my C1000 from Conics in a few days, and am trying to decide whether or not to keep the Sharp ROM.

Convince me- why should i use OZ?

from what i have inferred, GPE has the ability to run some Gnome-compatible software, but does not have as big of a program/user base (i need Gimp and Audacity, specifically). Opie is more widely used, but does not run X11.

i am not a complete n00b, but i am relatively (2 months) new to linux...

semi-nerd talk is OK
