ipkg -force-depends remove "*orinoco*" ; reboot

Ah, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately it didn't work - it has removed orinoco but wifi still doesn't work!

I discovered this too, having spent a while trying to stop orinoco drivers being loaded. I spent ages trying rmmod etc without any luck!

Ubuntu has a blacklist feature where you can stop it happening on hotplug, tho' it wasn't totally trivial to do it. Wonder why Angstrom can't have similar.

For me, bizarrely both Hentges GPE and Angstrom work perfectly fine, without any tweaks; only OPIE has the problem.

Hey everyone,

I've not been using my C3200 for ages, but recently decided to get "interested" again, so...

I still cannot make-up my mind as to which ROM suits me best, so went round the "loop" of checking-out the latest and greatest stuff.

While doing this I tried the latest Angstrom (5th May) and Hentges 1.0.0 (11th Nov 2006) both OPIE and GPE.

Now, with both Angstrom and Gentges GPE, I can configure my Pretec Wifi CF, with WEP and a non-broadcastable SSID and it works first time and reliably.  However with Hentges OPIE it will never work - the card's led continues to flash, and dmesg reports:

Code: [Select]
eth0: New link status: Association Failed (0006)Wellenreiter with OPIE works perfectly, the cards led stays constantly on, and all neighbouring wi-fi hubs are detected.  Once I exit Wellenreiter, the problem begins again.

lsmod snippet shows:

Code: [Select]
hostap_cs              55156  0
hostap                111108  1 hostap_cs
ieee80211_crypt         5088  1 hostap
orinoco_cs             12260  1
orinoco                39988  1 orinoco_cs
hermes                  6368  2 orinoco_cs,orinoco
Does this have something to do with WEP/SSID; I have limited experience on how to debug this problem - any suggestion are really appreciated.

Hey all,

Did anyone ever get this working or come-up with an alternative that gives a "light" X environment under OPIE?

I got a Linksys USB Wireless adapter? Does it work on C1000?

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=135952\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I asked similar before buying my C1000 too - the problem comes down to powering the device via the Z's USB i.e. it probably doesn't have enough guts to drive it.  A powered USB hub is the solution.

I ended-up buying a Pretec CF Wi-fi card.

Hope that helps.

ok! you must do this:

4) Go to the Settings tab, click on Libraries, List, Applications, Opera Browser and click okay.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=135137\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Do you mean the "Settings" tab on the desktop?  There is no "Libraries" icon there.  I don't mind doing something from the command line, if you would give me the command.

To get the "Libraries" Tool under the "Settings" tab, you need to install the sharp-compat-libs IPK (or use Hentges as it is installed by default).  However as previously stated, this does not guarantee your particular application will work.  I like some of the EON games, however only a few of them "work", so good luck.  As far as I remember the sharp-compat-libs IPK has been removed from 3.5.4.1, so you'll have to use from a previous version feed (I think 3.5.3 has it).

General Discussion / C3200: Should I Flash The Rom Myself?

Greetings -

[span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\']<BACKGROUND INFO>[/span]
So I have a 6000L that is ok, but I'm not terribly keen on the size, especially compared to my "daily driver" iPaq hx4700. But I've had my iPaq since Oct. 2004, and I think I'm ready to try something else again. (21 months is an eternity for me... I used to upgrade my PDAs literally every nine months)
[span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\']</BACKGROUND INFO>[/span]

Enter the C3200. It might be a little thick, but I figured it may be an interesting deal. Obviously, I can buy one with a ROM updated for me, but I think the best price I've found is at pricejapan - currently US$543. Other places that have an English ROM already flashed are more expensive. So my main question is: how difficult is it really to flash the ROM properly (considering I haven't had to do that at all in previous machines)? And second: being a relative novice, should I even consider changing the ROM?

I apologize if the veterans here are sick of this type of question. I don't want to end up with an expensive brick because I was inexperienced or ignorant. So I appreciate any constructive help/feedback.

Thanks -
- Chazzz

Within a few hours of getting my C1000 I flashed Cacko ROM onto it, with the safe knowledge that even if my NAND backup was crap, that the Trisoft one would save the day!  You just need to have a >128MB CF card to hand (for the NAND backup/restore).

It's really easy; I'd never messed with a PDA before, let alone flashed it.  Soon after a gave the C1000 to my girlfriend and bought a C3200 - I think they're great.

Hello All
I am a current owner of an SL-6000L, and am looking to upgrade.  I am a Linux novice.  I've been thinking about the 3200, but the price is a real drawback.  I've seen some 1000's on ebay for around 300-400.  What is the main difference between the 1k and the 3200?  Is it the microdrive? And in terms of processing speed, how do these devices compare to the 6000?  I really want to be able to run movies full screen at 30fps.  This is no where near possible on the 6k.  I suppose one of the drawbacks of the C series is the lack of integrated wifi.  But its no deal breaker.  So what do you think?

Thanks

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134761\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I've used a C1000 and a C3200, and from my usage needs it comes down to power consumption and speed; price doesn't really factor - since I wanted a few GBs of storage (music etc.) and the ability to have OPIE and GPE co-installed I installed a 2GB SD in the C1000 (which brings the price close[ish] to a C3200).  However the SD is slower than the C3200's microdrive, but the C1000 consumes less power (and therefore has a longer battery life).  So like I say it comes down to speed vs battery life.

If you are flashing back to Cacko 1.23 full for C1000, resize it to 32mb, as per the installation instructions. Or 19mb for the lite version.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

not the flash rom, i m talking about the 4gb hdd tho, i m not too good with linux, so i donno what i need to go if i decide to go back to use cacko 1.23, i have OZ 3.5.4.1 now.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134776\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

you will need to repartition your harddisk as it was by default. the harddisk is not actually used but cacko won't boot if its does not find the partitions and dummy files that need to be there.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134779\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

thanks for the reply, but how do i do that?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134780\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Trisoft did a great job for us newbies, read here: [a href=\"http://www.trisoft.de/en_c3100howto.htm]http://www.trisoft.de/en_c3100howto.htm[/url]

If I recall, although Sharp/Cacko ROM will bitch if certain files are not present on the HD, you can just Ctrl-C and the boot carries-on and is successful.  From memory it doesn't check partition sizes, just that certain files/dirs are present.  However if you follow the Trisoft guide above then there will be no complaints by Sharp/Cacko.

Hope that helps.

One question though; GPE has the "Goto Opie" icon/script - what mechanism did you use when going from OPIE->GPE (other than chvt 3 from the terminal), as I've yet to understand how the OPIE desktop relates to commands/scripts underneath?

I created this file:
/opt/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/gpe.desktop

...which contains:

[Desktop Entry]
Comment=Goto GPE
Exec=/gotogpe.sh
Icon=logo/tux-logo
Type=Application
Name=GPE
CanFastload=1

&
 /gotogpe.sh contains:

#!/bin/sh
chvt 2

...don't forget to chmod 755  /gotogpe.sh
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134400\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Excellent, thanks - I'll give it a go.  It's also good to start learning how the OPIE desktop/icons and scripts relate - another knowledge gap filled.

I just got my Zaurus a month ago and have never really updated a ROM before.  I have decided that pdaXrom is what I want.

Can someone tell me what the issues are when going from qtopia to pdaXrom?

If I do that, can I go back if I want to?

    Just worried that I will screw it up.

Please tell me if I should be careful about anything.  I would hate to kill it.

Thanks!

I can understand your nervousness - there's a lot of info to try and digest (I've had my Z a few weeks).

As in most cases when upgrading something it's best to do a backup first (in this case a NAND backup).  Then if something goes horribly wrong you can revert back.  So you'll need a SD/CF big enough (C1000/3200 is ~130MB) to hold the backup.

A word of warning about pdaXrom; if you're going to try Beta 4, then it uses a new bootloader (u-boot) which if as you're new to all of this, is IMHO a pain in the arse for newbies like ourselves if you want to revert to another ROM or version of pdaXrom (just my opinion   ).  I would suggest Beta 3 or Beta 1, however I've gone off of pdaXrom, so I shouldn't make your mind up for you   .

Hope that helps, let me know if you need more info...

I just hold down the "Ctrl+(the key right next to Ctrl which is mapped to Alt I think)+"insert terminal number here"
I have OPIE running on terminal 2 because for some reason after a reboot GPE decided to move to terminal 3.

Hope this helps.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134351\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Ah OK, I've done it that way too, so I'm not missing anything   .  I can feel my knowledge edging towards the dangerous level now   .

Yep, GPE did the same to me (both OPIE and GPE on VT3), so I moved OPIE back to VT2 - I thought the point of moving OPIE to VT3 in the first place was because GPE used VT2...ho hum...

Good to know someone else has gpe/opie working.

One tip (which I should post to the wiki):

Disable the Sleep settings in gpe & give opie control over this, otherwise you might find your opie screen goes blank unexpectedly.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134304\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yep, learned that one the hard way.

After a reboot, GPE now boots to the third terminal, so both of them were running at the same time, so I exited OPIE, edited the /etc/init.d/opie file and changed it back to terminal 2, and everything works fine now.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134317\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for the info guys - I just plucked-up the courage and tried it on my C3200 and it worked!!

One question though; GPE has the "Goto Opie" icon/script - what mechanism did you use when going from OPIE->GPE (other than chvt 3 from the terminal), as I've yet to understand how the OPIE desktop relates to commands/scripts underneath?

I need to do a special procedure to bring the Zaurus back to factory state. If I 'll do this, lost I the factory program as: Hancomsheet, Hancomword, addressbook, Internet borwser,....?
Where I can find the ipk file for HancomOfficeSuite?
Tanks Dario
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I think Hancom Word and Sheet ipks are in the default Cacko feed, though I sometimes have had problems accessing the site (timeouts).  The other (default) applications will be there too.

If my memory is correct, the Trisoft backup [a href=\"http://www.trisoft.de/en_downloads.htm]here[/url] has Hancom Word and Sheet as well.

Hope that helps.

I understand that you can run GPE and OPIE together, but I haven't tried that yet, and I don't know if that configuration will solve my problem.  One of my concerns was that the "GPE and OPIE together" wiki was written (by you) last year, and I wasn't sure if it was still relevant (given that other topics on this forum offer fixes/solutions to overcome various problems, and that they have not been integrated into a single guide), and that because I have a C3200 I wasn't sure if I had to move OPIE to SD or whether I could leave as-is (since I don't understand how the dual OPIE/GPE thing works!).

Any help appreciated.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
OK, I followed the wiki (but did NOT move root to SD/CF) and [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20217]here[/url] and it all works for my C3200, basically do what the wiki says (but don't move root), and also, after GPE is installed, change terminal settings in /etc/init.d/opie back to 2, and disable sleep in GPE.

[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

1) What does KO/PI offer that gpe-pim doesn't offer? I'm sure the gpe people would like to know.
2) You can get KO/PI for X11 as well, the OE recipes are in the OE bugtracker ( [a href=\"http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371]http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371[/url] ), but *noone* bothered to test them out (kinda surprising since a lot of people ask for them).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=134338\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

1) I don't know - I will look into this and give feedback.

2) So, being new to all this, how could I get/build this and test it?

Thanks for your quick reply.
