Zaurus - pdaXrom / Switch Between Wireless Networks?
« on: February 08, 2007, 06:59:00 am »
it has been developed under and for beta3.
Not sure if it works under other versions, but since it is entirely script-based and just uses Xdialog for GUI output, it should at least be very easily portable, maybe simply works under other beta versions.

Hi guys,

I just jumped upon this thread, so sorry for not replying earlier.

My XCardscheme may be what you want. It allows easy GUI-based switching between the schemes defined in the Lan & Wifi config.

You can download or feed it from here:
http://www.hermocom.com/feeds/pdaxrom1.1.0beta3/

It needs Xdialog.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Packages Announcement

New packages in our pdaXrom feed:
http://www.hermocom.com/feeds/pdaxrom1.1.0beta3/

New Sylpheed 2.2.10 email client

epdfview 0.1.5 lightweight PDF viewer
and its dependency poppler 0.5.4
edited: This program works only with freetype >= 2.1.10.
If you have an earlier version installed, you can download and install Freetype 2.1.10 from here (post #45).
However, please be aware that freetype is needed by the GUI package manager. So it is strongly recommended to (un)install freetype using the command line!

xcardscheme 0.0.2  (edited: changed name from gcardscheme to xcardscheme, because gcardscheme existed already!)
which is the first version of a PCMCIA/CF card scheme switcher with GUI.
Depends on Xdialog, which is available in this feed:
http://www.pdaxrom.org/contrib/dtruchan/.
If you defined more than one scheme in the "LAN & WIFI config" under "System tools", you can use gcardscheme to switch between them without using the console. It's a replacement for the "cardctl scheme" command.
Please test! Does anyone know how to make the font bigger?

scmxx 0.9.0
command line access to Siemens mobile phones over IrDA or Bluetooth (SMS, phonebook etc.)

Have fun!

Sylpheed 2.2.7:
Lightweight, fast and very feature-rich graphical email client.
Remove the old sylpheed package first. This version adds a lot of bugfixes and new features over the pre-installed one.

Streamtuner:
Great application for browsing Shoutcast and other streams and starting playback (mplayer) or ripping (streamripper, see below)

Streamripper:
Plugin for Streamtuner for recording and splitting a stream. The stream ends up in one MP3 file per title with correct artist / title file names (provided the straming server sends correct metadata).

sitecopy:
For FTP-based automated website synchronization (local host/remote server)

libetpan:
Compiled as a requirement for sylpheed-claws. A package for sylpheed-claws will come later maybe.

More packages will come.

Our Zaurus download page:
http://www.hermocom.com/en/download/zaurus/

All mentioned packages are available in this feed:

Off Topic forum / New Qtopia Powered Phone Called Handypc
« on: August 18, 2006, 07:44:04 am »
I have visited ROAD (the company who makes the HandyPC) in April this year and had a look at the HandyPC.
If all goes well I'll soon have such a device for intensive testing.

In that 30 minutes I could try it out in April it seemed like a very sophisticated device but with some glitches.
I'll not go into detail here because what I have tested was a prototype. These glitches may well be fixed when the device comes to the market.

I see the greatest disadvantage in the half-VGA screen (640x240), which may prevent many QTopia apps from being used conveniently.
If the developers take the time to adapt their GUI layouts to that resolution it would be great, but I think many of them will not do so.
So I hope the L101 (planned larger version of the S101) will solve that issue.

BTW: ROAD has an English homepage as well:
http://www.road-gmbh.de/en/index.html

As I understood, the device is more meant to be a remote device for the home/office PC than a stand-alone mini PC. It will be equipped with a lot of remote access services (NX, VNC etc.)

So, who will develop a pdaXrom for it?

Well, regarding the colon issue:
What about loading an alias tool and simply replace the colon by an underscore for example?
So the commands would become c_ or z_

Not sure if this would work, but it may be worth a try.

Please note that we have a mutt package for download on http://www.hermocom.com/en/download

It is supposed to work on Cacko ROM (Sharp ROM) but may also work under different ROMs.

I just received a wifi cf card and am currently running cacko 1.23 on akita.

The card is unknown! So I got a worse problem. Its a XI-825 model, and is using prism 2.5 chipset.

It works out of the box in oz/gpe on my collie ... though I still could not ping the notebook it connected with.

Probably only a new entry in /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf is needed for that card.
With "cardctl ident" after inserting the card you can determine the needed settings for "manfid" or "version" in the conf file entry.

Hi all,

very interesting to hear about inet radio. Where can I get this shoutcast player for download? I tried the cacko feed, no shoutcast player. Is it possible to record music too in this way? That would be great!

You can download a shoutcast player / recorder package from our website at
