Archos forum / Selling My Archos Av400/20

Hi all,
Im about to put my archos av400/20gb up for auction and was wondering about formatting / security wiping the hard drive. Ive had some cctv footage stored on it and considering it was evidence that I burnt to disk for the police im thinking I should do a multi wipe before selling.
The unit has the original firmware and I really do not want to update it because ive heard that the new firmware stops certain formats of video being recognised and played and you cannot revert back to older firmware once updated, if this is still true then my unit has a selling point bonus.
Im asking the question because ive just read that a drive format involves updating the firmware too ? Ive found the proceedure for the av500 but its not the same for my model.
Any suggestions would be great,
