 I'd also suggest reading the FAQ I wrote on how to use an NFS server to build/upgrade ports and packages. This will reduce wear and tear on your Zaurus internal hard drive.

Scripts no longer valid. Update process has changed drastically since I originally wrote it. On the bright side it's much easier to update OpenBSD these days.

OpenBSD / Help Me Put My Old Z To Use Again!

Hi Tim,

Good timing!

At least one person (me...) reading your posts and with great interest. As I just got interested in using Zaurus again....and thought about trying OpenBSD which I have never used before. But interested as it is about the only OS that is still updated for Zaurus....

Have some linux experience (debian, arch, etc...) but never BSD.....so, interested to learn and try it....

Also, if it's possible, would like to have Zaurus multi-boot, so, that I can easily switch to different OS's....but don't know if this will work with OpenBSD.

Please see this webpage and let me know if you think this approach is doable or if I should avoid it if I try OpenBSD.

I used to dual boot OpenBSD on my Zaurus with Cacko. I wrote a FAQ on how to do this somewhere in this forum. Just do a search and it should pop up. I'm sure it's possible to do the same thing with other distros.

Never used OpenBSD before....although I've read a bit about BSD in general....

How does it compare to other ROMs for Zaurus?

Also, are there many programs available to use with OpenBSD?

Do you recommend using it?

Pretty much anything in the openbsd ports can be built on the Zaurus. But this may not be a good idea do to CPU speed limitations. However, there are tons of awesome console base programs that get the job done.

SL-C3200 is still supported on OpenBSD. I'm currently running version 5.4 on my Zaurus with zero issues.

So, has the SD write issue been sorted satisfactorily?
I tried to install OpenBSD a while back, but couldn't get the Package Manager (under Cacko, "heavy") to accept the BSD Feed address and pull down the necessary starting package............any tips/clues welcome.

Just wanted to let everyone know that OpenBSD still supports the Zaurus. My Zaurii is currently running 5.0 and still going strong. Going to update to 5.1 in May.

Are you using the latest and greatest OpenBSD/Zaurus snapshot?

what are THE news about it ? sd write ? bluetooth rfcomm ?

I'm currently compiling the new sources now. I'll post about the SD write capability when it's completed.  I doubt there has been much headway on the rfcomm support. Maybe next release?

guys,
i'm running into a new problem : suspend just doesn't work !
nothing happens as i type zzz -S ........
just a "suspending system..." message then back to prompt......

any clue before i reboot ?

any news about how to solve this bug ? i'm having it again....

The link at http://zaurus.daemons.gr/openbsd/ appears to be not responding.  Does anyone have this material on another URL?  I'm prepping for an upgrade to 4.2 and want o blow away Linux.

OpenBSD / Cpio File Name Out Of Range Error On Installation

I get many of these:
tar: Cpio file name length xxxxx is out of range
which are interspersed with a progress bar which seems to complete loading that package even though those errors are appearing. (im loading them all locally from a compactflash card in my Zaurus SL-C3200)

What file system format are you using on your CF card? This sounds like a case of MSDOS file system woes.  The installation is a lot easier if you download the installation sets from the appropriate ftp site during the installation process.

OpenBSD / Sd Doesn't Work In Openbsd4.1?

Hi,

I've just installed OpenBSD 4.1 on my SL-C3100. I've only installed basic filesets, everything exept the x*.tgz, planned to add them later.
However, the SD card doesn't get recognized when I boot; in fact dmesg doesn't show anything like pxammc or sdmmc at all. It works OK under linux though..

Any idea on what I might be missing?
