General Discussion / Mplayer And 3gp
« on: October 10, 2006, 08:26:28 pm »
Has anybody been able to play .3gp files on Z? I have tried 3GP files coded using the Nokia suite but I get video but no audio. It outputs "Cannot find codec for audio 0x726D6173".  I believe I have used AMR codec for sound. Any idea what am I missing? I've tried -ac ffamrnb but get message cannot find codec "amr_nb" in libavcodec.

Thanks for your help!

Cxx0 Hardware / Xp Cannot Detect Zaurus C860 On Usb
« on: October 10, 2006, 03:09:38 pm »
I've tried reflashing, rebooting and even update libusb, even with modprobe g_ether.. doesn't look like my XP is able to detect my Z anymore through usb. I've even tried on other computers and none of them detects my Z. Ironic, that its used to be able to and i was able to get a ndis connection installed. I guess it must just leave me with perhaps its hardware problem or cable problem?

Thanks again guys!

No idea I'm afraid, I don't have a charging usb cable.

It might be worth rebooting your Zaurus and re-modprobing the g_ether module to be sure that it's not on the Zaurus side, otherwise I don't know.

Sorry,

Si,
Taking up your recent advice, i decided to revisit my Z networking woes. However, I have encountered a new problem.

With reference to previous post on this thread, I was then able to get my XP to detect my Z on its USB port.

Now, even that fails! The RNDIS connection is not even established anymore. I checked under Computer Management on XP and the device is certainly invisible to XP. I did a modprobe g_ether, still nothing was detected.

Ifconfig -a shows usb0 is up. I m inclined to pin it down to a faulty usb cable.

However, the power supply through the cable seems ok as the orange light is still burning. Though I have noticed that it goes off after a while. Is that the sign of a faulty cable? Before I proceed to go out and by a new one, I was hoping if anyone could help me troubleshoot this just to confirm that the problem does not lie with my Z. Or perhaps XP is the problem? Anyway, of finding out?

Many thanks and I must say I really appreciate your patience in dealing my Z woes!

Just to add.. lsmod shows g_ether but on the used by column, it shows 0 if that should mean something. I have a feeling that its a windoze xp problem.

Thanks again guys!

Been up all nite trying to figure out whats wrong. Just a little further to add.
Doing an ifup usb0
and then a dmesg

I get
ADDRCONF (NETDEV_UP): usb0: link is not ready

However, in Network Settings usb0 seems to be up. So does ifconfig -a

I am at the end of my wits here on trying to figure out what has changed since that has caused things to stop working.

I really hope somebody have an idea. Thanks again guys!

Yup, I have managed to stop ipkg to from complaining about dependecies by specifying force-depends. That helped to install the ipks. Am I right to assume that task-opie and opie-base are mere empty packages that just make references to other task-opie-* and opie-base-* packages. Hence, ignoring them would be safe so as long as the other task-opie-* and opie-base-* packages are installed?

That's right.

Get your internet connection sorted and use the following to install mplayer (& deps) which can play certainly divx:

"ipkg install mplayer"

Thanks Si and Koen,

I decided to heed your advice and try to get my internet sorted. As the moment USB is my best option. However, upon revisitting that problem I encountered a new problem. Now my XP just unable to detect my Z at all!! You helped me solve the problem before but now nothing seems to work. I have continued on from the previous thread so to make it easier for others who may encounter the same problem.

[a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20517]https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20517

Once again. I really appreciate your help. I m gonna have to test connecting to someone else's XP when i find one available tomorrow but for now... just not got one anywhere nearby.

Many thanks!

I assume that the packages i have could be older version and need to be updated?

How do I get them?

Looks like some of the meta packages (task-*, etc.) have been renamed.

In this case you can use the --force-depends switch to make it ignore them and install the package.

Quote
Also, I see that in the Package Manager configurator there is a means to specify the src of my feed. My Z's previous owner has left some ipks on the SD card he has given to me. However, when I do and ipkg update I get the error

"wget: not an http pr ftp url: /media/card/progs/Packages"

Look in /etc/ipkg/*.conf or /etc/ipkg.conf and see how the "src" line for these files is constructed, it should be something like:

"src somename file:///media/card/progs/"

Quote
How else can I do an ipkg update if I don't have network connection to my Z.

Using a local mirror of the feed, so basically using the above technique. However I'd encourage you to get some form of internet access working rather than downloading the entire feed as it's rather large and you don't need much of it in general.

Thanks Si, you have always been a great help!

I have tried to get Internet access to my Z through my laptop but never seem to be successful. I've tried usb and ad hoc wireless but never been successful. Even had so much trouble trying to get my laptop to see my Z. Perhaps, will research the forum and try again later.

Hence, ignoring them would be safe so as long as the other task-opie-* and opie-base-* packages are installed?

Thanks, I have managed to get ipkg to update ipks from my sd card. The previous owner only specified src as "media/card/progs/" without the domain name qualifier "file:///". Thanks again! However, I made these changes through the Package Manager user interface. I m not able to find /etc/ipkg/*.conf or /etc/ipkg.conf on my Z.

However, I am still having a lot of problem getting a media player installed. Opie-mediaplayer2 seemed to have been installed already in Opie but I am unable to get it to play .avi divx files. It just crashes with a SigKill when I play them files.

I next attempted to install a VLC player. I tried the Opie friendly VlC version which I downloaded from a link in one of the postings in this forum, i.e. opie-vlc_0.6.0C_arm.ipk and opie-libsdl_1.2.5_arm.ipk. Got them installed with force-depends and they got installed ok. However, when I attempt to just run VLC on the command line by merely typing VLC i get the error

vlc: symbol lookup error: /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol cmd_12QPaintDeviceiP8QPainterP13QPDevCmdParam

Any idea what could be the problem? Realising I couldn't go any further with that I tried my luck with mplayer.

Managed to get ver 0.90pre5 (filename- mplayer_0.90pre5_arm.ipk ) from a link somewhere in this forum and then installed it. Again with force-depends.
Installation was ok but when I run Mplayer by merely typing mplayer on the command line I get the error

/usr/local/bin/mplayerx: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I looked at the folder /usr/lib I see libncurses.so.5.4 and libncurses.so.5->libncurses.so.5.4. I assume that the latter means a symlink has been created between libncurses.so.5 and libncurses.so.5.4. I don't know much about symlinks but believe its just a pointer to a file, no? I was wondering, would it be ok to create a symlink between libncurses.so.4 and libncurses.so.5.4. I see the number postfixed to the name may be a problem? If I can't, what should I do? Would I need to hunt for mplayer that uses libncurses.so.5? Any idea?

Also, I figure it would be easier to get a frontend ui for these players. I read in one posting in the forum that zplayer is a frontend option for mplayer or vlc. I managed to get hold of zplayer_0.1.1_arm.ipk  and installation was ok. However, again... when I run zplayer on the command line by merely typing zplayer I get the error

zplayer: symbol lookup error: zplayer: undefined symbol: _7QString.shared_null

Looks like i m just not getting anywhere with trying to get a media player installed. It could possibly that the previous owner must have messed things up with files and thats why he got rid of it.

I appreciate any advice you can give. Spent the whole weekend working on my Zaurus and really hope to get somewhere with it before too long. Many thanks!

Hi,
I am always hitting a brickwall with installing vlc for my Z. I have got OZ and Opie 1.2.
I downloaded an Opie friendly VLC from
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-familiar.html

Tried installing the file opie-vlc_0.6.0_arm.ipk through the package manager and I get the error

Error: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for opie-vlc:

opie-base
opie-libsdl

Also tried installing the file opie-libsdl from the same site and I get the error
Error: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for opie-libsdl

task-opie

I see that task-opie and opie-base are the culprits here

I looked at the Packages installed using Package Manager on Opie and I find that a myriad of task-opie-something packages installed including task-opie-base installed. Is this what its looking for and don't see?

I assume that the packages i have could be older version and need to be updated?

How do I get them?

I know ipkg update should help with updating the ipks, no? Is that one of its uses? However, I have still not able to get my Z connected to my laptop to get it on the Internet. My more optimistic option would be to put them onto my CF or SD cards. Can anyone advise on if this is the way of doing it and how should I go about this, properly?

Also, I see that in the Package Manager configurator there is a means to specify the src of my feed. My Z's previous owner has left some ipks on the SD card he has given to me. However, when I do and ipkg update I get the error

"wget: not an http pr ftp url: /media/card/progs/Packages"

the folder /media/card is where my sd card is mounted on and just to state the obvious /progs is a folder on my sd card containing various ipks.

I can see that its obvious that why wget would fail if its looking at /media/card/progs/ because its no path on an HTTP server or FTP server but merely the path on my sd card.

So I assume thats not a good src for ipkg update. How else can I do an ipkg update if I don't have network connection to my Z.

I must say that some of the things I assume above could be rubbish coz I am a newbie to Z and linux. I appreciate any advice you can give. I am slowly but persevering at learning to figure out my Z and really appreciate your help. Many thanks!

jeevandras, I don't run OZ, rather CACkO 1.23; but I don't think it's a good idea generally to just pull out a memory card (or a camera or wifi card, for that matter) without unmounting it first. In CACkO there's a little icon on the taskbar which I can touch and bring up the mounted cards ... if I hit on the mounted card it will "eject" it (unmount it). Much easier than running a command I might mistype. Is there no GUI for this on Opie?

I find that when I transfer a file from my XP through a card reader to my CF or SD card and then plug the card onto my Z, I don't see these files.

However, when I reboot Z, the files finally appear and whatever changes i have made on my cards are shown on my File Manager.

Are you talking about the doc tab, or the proper file manager here?

Check the output of 'mount' in the terminal after you insert the card to check that it has been mounted.

Thanks Si and Xamindar,
I was just wondering, should the CF card be unmounted everytime I unplug it from my Z and remounted when I replug it?

I have reformatted the CF card with FAT on my XP. And then plugged it on Z and mounted on for example /media/cf by calling mount /dev/hda  /media/cf

Then I suspend my Z and unplugged my CF card. Plugged it onto my XP copied a test file onto it. And unplugged it from XP and replugged it onto Z. Turn my Z on looked at the 'proper' File Manager software on Opie and went into the /media/cf but didn't find the file I copied over. The Z shows that CF is mounted on /media/cf

However, I then umount /media/cf and remount the CF onto /media/cf again and I see the transferred file!

I assume that there is an unmounting and remounting of the CF that needs to be carried out whenever i unplug and replug my CF but doesn't seem to be carried out.

Any idea what I can do?

Btw, how do I find out what ROM i have installed. The information I can gather so far from my Z is shown in my signature below. Is my ROM version one of them?

Sorry I am a newbie!

Once again, thanks for your advice.

Thanks Brashley.
I guess I figure what I was doing wrong. What you said was true. What I was doing is turning my zaurus off i.e. suspending it and then unplugging the cards. When I remove a card at such a manner, the OS is not aware of what happened. So when I turn Z on again, it still assumes the card is plugged in and does not update its file system. That explains why any changes I made to my card's content is not shown when i replug it in. However, when I reboot, the OS goes and remount the card, hence updating the filesystem as a result.
Great learning something new everytime I try to do something with this Z!!
However, to add... I have attempted to mount my cf card to a folder /media/cf using the command line it successfully mounts /dev/hda to that folder. However, whenever I remove the card (this time after unmounting it properly) and then replug it onto my Z, now.. instead of mounting the cf card to /media/cf, Z goes and automatically mount it on /media/hda. I assume it must be that there is somewhere I need to specify that Z should keep mounting my cf card onto my /media/cf folder everytime I plug it back in. Do you know how do I do this?

Anyway, next task... trying to get a video player running on my Z. At the moment my Z is still an expensive paper weight! Any idea on how to get one installed on OZ with a user interface that would work on Opie?

Once again, many thanks for your help. Deeply appreciated.

Hi,
I m trying to get a video player running for my OPIE 1.2. I thought Kino2 would have been a good choice but (I m a newbie!) apparently its asking for libsl.so file. Which I believe is not available for OPIE 1.2, no? Is there any other way I could get a user friendly video player running on my C860? I m hoping to play my divx .avi files. I've heard of mplayer but yet to find a posting to show me how to get it installed properly. I tried the package  mplayer_0.90pre5_arm.ipk. Installed ok. But when i run mpalyer on command line it says error loading shared libraries libncurses.so. I guess I must be missing something.

Spent the last two days sitting in front of the comuter trying to get a media player running but failing miserably. I really appreciate your help. Many thanks!

Hi,
Still trying to figure out this Zaurus of mine.
I was hoping to get a suitable media player running on my Z.
I have Opie and it comes with opiemediaplayer2. It works fine with mp3 files but just crashes with .avi files running divx. I have tried reducing the resolution of my .avi file and yet still crashes.

When i run the opiemediaplayer2 on the terminal, the output i get last is

All resize done
Hoehm: 160925 <-> 30
Killed.

Don't seem to be able to find a dump file anywhere.
I checked the source code for the player, it seems to happen at

void XineVideoWidget::paintEvent2 ( QPaintEvent * )
{
    if ( m_buff == 0 ) {
        return;
    } else if (m_lastsize){

                dst += m_bytes_per_line_fb;

    }
}

Though I can't tell exactly whats happening.

After reading a few posting on the forum i decided to give up on OpieMediaPlayer2 and try Xmms-MPlayer.

Does anyone know where and how can install these two packages?

I managed to get hold of the package mplayer-xmms-embedded-qtopia_0.00005pre1_arm.ipk and installed it but it complains  of cannot satisfy dependency

libSDL

I assume there are something else missing. Can somebody advise on an easy way for me to get divx .avi files playing on my Zaurus. Appreciate any advice u can give. Thanks!

Jeev
ps. Does anybody have a sample .avi file i can use to test on my player? Thanks again!

It sounds like the zaurus isn't unmounting the card when you remove it.  Is there some program you installed on the card or a swap file enabled or something that could be preventing that?

Thanks Xaminder.
Actually the cards I have came with the Zaurus I bought. The previous owner has some files still located in it. I have not dared to remove them yet till i know what are they for or if my Z is dependant on them. How can I tell?
I see files like initrd.bin, updater.sh and tools.tar. Along with a few release text files. I assume it may be safe to remove them, no?

How do I tell its swap file enabled?

Thanks again! Appreciate any advice.

Cxx0 General discussions / Unable To Detect Files On Memory Cards
« on: September 28, 2006, 12:00:31 pm »
Hi,
I am still pretty new with my zaurus and linux trying to figure a lot out.

I m running OZ 3.5.4.1 Kernel 2.6.16 and Opie 1.2.1 on a C860.

I find that when I transfer a file from my XP through a card reader to my CF or SD card and then plug the card onto my Z, I don't see these files.

However, when I reboot Z, the files finally appear and whatever changes i have made on my cards are shown on my File Manager.

Does anybody know why this is happening? Do I need to reboot everytime I copy files over. I assume this has something to do with mounting the device. Is there someting I should do 1st before i plug and unplug my card.

I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

Cxx0 Hardware / Xp Cannot Detect Zaurus C860 On Usb

Synch Software 1.43

The problem start first when I try to change the connection mode on Zaurus Manager from USB I/0 (default) to USB-TCP/IP (advanced). It complains that C860 is not on the docking station.

You need the older version of Qtopia Desktop/Intellisync which came with the 5500 2.xx Sharp images. Take a look here: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11783

Anyone know of a download link for the old Intellisync & Qtopia Desktop software (assuming it's not in the above thread)?

The newer versions (I recognise them by the presence of the connection manger which didn't used to exist afaicr, plus the option to do usb-io which isn't supported by the OZ machines) have a different database format for the contacts/calendar/etc.

Thanks a lot Si,
I am finally able to install a suitable Intellisync software for my XP. Yup, I had to go in search of a very old version of I.
For those who may encounter the same problem. The link to the Intellisync or QTopia Desktop software that may help solve this issue  is
[a href=\"http://http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp]Sync Software 1.43

Using sync on the Intellisync, I get Z & XP to see each other do it always the crude way of doing this as explained in

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11783
After like a gazillion prompts letting me know that an unauthorised sysetm is requesting access to this device, it arrives at "Preparing record for...". On  most times... it just freezes there and on a better day it goes up to " "Synchronization in Progress. Please do no operate or remove the Zaurus from the Docking Station" and flashes that indefinitely.

Just wondering if there is a better way of making Intellisync use my preferred IP add on Z and also if you have any idea on why the sync process is hanging. I read somewhere in the forum that by selecting on Opie the settings for the sync software to be QTopia 1.7 would end all those prompts. However, when I tried that with my Intellisync the XP and Z do not communicate. The reason may be fairly obvious but I had an impression that this workaround works for Intellisync as well. Any idea?

However, the File Transfer feature does seem to operate ok... i.e. XP sees Z access directory but not tried transferring any files yet.

Once again. Many thanks for your help.
