I paid £565, that\'s $1,039 USD at today\'s prices and it took me a year to save for it (it was a C700 when I started, but the C860 was out by the time I was ready to buy) and I think it was worth every hard earned penny.

My 760 cost me £380 including delivery. I suppose I was lucky that customs didn\'t notice it so I didn\'t pay any duty. I bought it just a couple of weeks before the 860 was released. I couldn\'t be happier with it.

Software / best video format for the zaurus

I have successfully played AVI, WMV, and ASF files
AVI is just a wrapper, not an encoding (or discreet format).

General Discussion / Final try at sync and internet access

Actually Windows might need ICS (internet connection sharing) to be turned on. Try a search for that on the devnet too.
Yes, Windows will either need ICS enabled or it will need the Zaurus network device bridged to your existing LAN\'s NIC (if you\'re accessing the Internet from a LAN already). Otherwise, packets originating from the Z will just be dropped as you haven\'t instructed Windows to forward them.

My Zaurus is integrated perfectly into my LAN. I used the following commands to set it up:

Code: [Select]
echo "nameserver 192.168.1.1" > /etc/resolv.conf

ifconfig usbd0 192.168.1.200 broadcast 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0

route add -net default gw 192.168.1.1 netmask 0.0.0.0 metric 1 usbd0

My ADSL router is 192.168.1.1 (also providing DNS), my XP box is 192.168.1.23 and my Zaurus is 192.168.1.200

Remember, with a configuration like mine, the Z is bridged to the NIC. If your Windows box has a standalone Internet connection then I\'d imagine ICS is your best option.

I renamed the 860\'s NAND backup to SYSTC760.DBK and it flashed just fine!

As far as my Zaurus is concerned, it\'s an 860 now! Everything works just fine

Can you confirm if the C860 can still do TCP/IP over USB even in the presence of the Zaurus Drive (USB Mass Storage Device) feature?  (i.e. can you establish a TCP/IP connection between your Z and your PC; e.g. telnet; ftp; ssh; etc.?)
I put the 860 rom on to my 760 and the USB connection will work as either TCP/IP, USB I/O or USB Mass Storage. You can only select one of the modes at any time.

3) Treke has the 860 ROM on the 760, but has yet to make the usb drive work on the 760.  This may or may not be hardware related.
I put the 860 rom on my 760 and USB mass storage works perfectly!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / x.11 rom, can it also run QT stuff.
« on: December 10, 2003, 03:18:08 pm »
Additionally, the X11 ROM should be a breeze to install on the 860 since there are no apparent/significant hardware changes from the 760. The most it could need is a little modification to the installation script. If Sash doesn\'t release an updated script in enough time then you could do it yourself; even though the script is encrypted, there is a little program available which will allow you to decrypt and (re)encrypt the script after you\'ve modified it appropriately.

I bought mine from PocketPenguin.com

I got a bit of a discount on the Z because I took one with damaged packaging. But the current prices are still pretty damn good!

I had tried to purchase a Zaurus from Kemplar, eBay and Hi-tech but Kemplar wouldn\'t accept my credit card (because it\'s from a European bank!?!), Paypal caused problems for me when I tried to pay the eBay trader and Hi-tech would only take a bank transfer; I don\'t have any time to get to the bank during the day (working monday to friday)

PocketPenguin was a delight to do business with. Very efficient, professional service and mcz (author of mcConvert) kept me up to date with the order etc. I would definately recommend PocketPenguin to anyone.

Tell me about it, by the time I\'d bought my C760 and had it imported from Japan I had payed over £500 including C&E (Customs) tax
I paid a total of £380 for my 760 (incl P&P) and customs didn\'t even bat an eyelid!

I suppose I was lucky!

The 760 is discontinued.

A lot of people were waiting to pounce when the 860 was released, in the hope that they could pick up a cheap 760 but it didn\'t seem to happen that way!

Pocketpenguin.com has, however, taken $10 off their existing stock of 750/760 machines.

However, the zaurus.com/dev/board did have an announcement on it from Spencer saying that sometime soon the board would be down for maintenance as they were taking the whole server offline for a few days.
That particular annoucement was several months old!
