Archos forum / Dvd Ripping Software
« on: July 25, 2006, 03:50:58 pm »
I use DVD shrink to make backups of dvd's. As most 9.4g blanks are too expensive I buy the usual 4.7g. What dvdshrink does is compress the 9.4g dvd to fit a 4.7g one. By re-auther I mean I can chose only to compress the film and if I want to make a backup without all the other languages I can, thus not compressing the film so much. You can actually totally re-auther the dvd to exclude particular menu's etc. I then burn the dvd's with burnatonce.

It's also a good way of getting dvd's on to my hard drive but using less space.

However, after checking out anydvd I see that this actually reduces the amount of time I need to spend converting dvd's to avi, so many thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Tim. Never tried or seen AnyDVD. (have now, just looked at the slysoft site)I assume it will still require a process as does dvdshrink. Plus I can reauther with DVDshrink so I only get the movie. Plus dvdshrink is free!

Seems odd that clonedvdmobile won't convert copywright dvd's and gives you a message. But they will sell you an add on program that will!!

I had a similar problem when I first got my AV700 TV. Windoze simply wouldn't recognise it properly. After several hours I tried a different USB slot (onboard instead of the PCI ones I've installed) & it worked perfectly! Try a different USB port.

Archos forum / Windows Media Player Plugin For Av700

My DVR 700TV automatically synced with MP10. The software is actually on the player. Now when I plug the player in to the PC with the USB windoze asks if I want to sync with media player. Try a different USB slot. It took me about 2 hours to figure out that the PCI USB board that I've installed on my machine wouldn't work properly and didn't see the device properly. The onboard USB's however worked perfectly.

If it still won't work try the firmware update from the Archos site.

Thanks for the replies. I finally ended up using clone dvd mobile. Makes a change for a program to actually do what is says it does and so easily & quickly. I rip using dvd shrink, re-auther just to get the movie and then convert with clone dvd. I must admit, I haven't checked that the films run their course but they are all about 1.5g in size. Perhaps I'd better check! I've transferred them via Windows Media player as I couldn't figure out how to change the player to show up as a hard drive!

Has anyone had any success in ripping dvd's to avi's for use on an AV 700. I've tried a few but they either simply refuse to work or won't produce a file that the AV 700 will read. If anyone has used a software program that works could you let me have the name/link?

Cheers

Matt

Have you tried a different USB port. I spent 2 hours trying to get mine to connect to my PC. It kept connecting as an incorrectly functioning USB device. I switched to a different USB port eventually & it worked perfectly.
