Nokia Tablet / The Nokia N800

odd, it asks for my country, if I select USA it tells me the price, so I clicked back and tried different european countries and none, not even scandinavian countries which is Nokia's origin.
Strange - it goes straight to the UK N800 Buy page for me (£269), although it's possible I've told Nokia I'm in the UK on previous accesses of their website.

there's no mention of it on the UK web site, so I wonder how long we'll have to wait for it to be available here.
It's available already...
Nokia N800 Direct Webpage although I agree there's no mention of it on the UK website.

Software / Korgnanizer Pim / Kopi Still Alive?
« on: October 18, 2006, 09:49:32 am »
I hope zautrix is still working on the KOPI projects, but right now, there don't appear to be many (if any) bugs in these products - they are a few things I would like to see the products also do (including Outlook syncing), but as they stand they work fine.  No new model of Z has broken the apps, so a new version is not needed - I hope people aren't assuming a developer has stopped working on a product simply because they've produced a very stable and feature rish app that does not need constant updates...

Having said that, zautrix has been very quiet of late.

Personally, I think your best chance of an answer to your more technical questions is to start a new thread (one per question) in the relevant topics in better areas than here (off topic area) where few people will be looking.

I have found KA/Pi and KO/Pi as great replacements for the contacts and calander for the Z, ... I also have had no luck in syncing my 3100 to transfer my appointments to Outlook. Anyone out there have any ideas?
I use the standard Intellisync software to sync Outlook to the Sharp built in PIM apps, and then use the Sharp DTM sync option in KO/Pi to get the data into KO/Pi.  Obviously to get data both ways you need to perform a Sharp DTM sync, Outlook sync, and then a final Sharp DTM sync, but it does work.

However, this is with a 5500 (v3 ROM), but the same procedure should work fine with the C3100.

British Telecom in the UK have a service called Fusion which uses a GSM mobile equipped with special firmware to use a bluetooth to PSTN gateway when at home; they're now also doing a wifi service but details are patchy: http://www.btbusinessshop.com/page/btfusion_hub
--edit: The Register got it wrong, BT business fusion is still bluetooth based--
Actually, I think the Register got it correct - BT have announced a Wifi version for corporates, as opposed to the Bluetooth version for consumers.  However, given that BT can't yet confirm who is making the handsets, I think this is just an "announcement" and not a "shipping product" (it might not even be a designed product!).

So, we will see a Wifi version, just not yet

One company that makes
devices, has to partner with another company for telephony "stuff".  The end
result is, that they want you (to be forced) to connect to a phone carrier's
network (for $) when you want to connect to the internet!
It's changing though - look at Nokia who have now released phones with WiFi built in, and people like T-Mobile in the UK are promoting mobile phones with built in Skype apps on them!

Software / Pi-sync For Fedora 4?

Has anybody managed to create a valid and working RPM for Fedora 4?
I haven't, but would also like to know about such a creation, as I want to run the apps on my FC4 box...

The PSION had a great app which could upload and manage all your contacts to the phone and dial via IR if I remember correctly.
That will be Phoneman - it was very good.

The Z doesnt seem to have the tools to do the same.
No, although KDE/PIMPi (www.pi-sync.net) is trying to add such functionality, although it's still early days.

The 760 has been sent to France, sorry Swing
No problem, in the short term I've spent the money on a digital SLR anyway, so it'll take a few months to finance one anyway

Looks like its running WinCE.Net from the screen grab tho?  Looks like a knockup...  Would love to see it happen tho!
Yes, I think you are right, however, their own website shows Qtopia screenshots for the Linux version, and I hear there's a Symbian version in development too.

However, it's all vapourware, I don't think you can buy any of their units yet.

I'd sell my car to get a Z with an 800x600 screen and a keyboard like the Psion 5, even if it made it larger.
Something like this then ROAD PDA Phone?  Okay, it's also a phone, but it looks like the keyboard has potential...

well, I had a look at the jabp ipk file and noticed some obvious errors which prevents it from working properly without some post install hacking so I rebuilt it and now it will just work once installed.
Does this IPK only work on clamshells, or will it also work on the 55xx range?  Either way, someone should email this to Malcolm so he can add it to his website!

Thanks for fixing it Meanie

Glad to know there's *someone* within 50 miles who also owns a Z. We should have an East Anglia Z users club meeting!
There's someone in Stevenage who has a clamshell (or at least used to - they mentioned it in one of the Z forums a year or two back) so there are others too!

The software installs OK but fails when you try to run it, I did go through it with Malcolm, checking that files were in the correct places. I don't know enough about Java to take it any further, assumed it was down to the changes Sharpo made to Jarva.
That's a shame, I know on my 5500 I had to make a few tweaks to get it to work post installation, although I'm still not sure if it was user error that caused the problems in the first place

If I had a cxxxx I'd try to sort this out myself, but it's one of the things I promised myself I would want working before investing in a clamshell, so I may be stuck in a Catch 22 situation
