General Discussion / Cl3100 Sync
« on: January 25, 2007, 05:47:00 pm »
I went to install my Zaurus software on my new computer, but alas no disks.  We were burglarized last Sunday, a bunch of stuff ripped off, including a hand full of disks.  Fortunately the Zaurus was with me.  If you are willing to help out with copies of the three disks Zaurus includes with the SL-C3100, I would be most grateful.  Please send me a PM if interested in helping out.  We are in the USA for a month or so.  Thanks.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3200 Has Constrain On Battery?

hi, Mark, your approach works. I carved a little and placed it in the PDA, it doesn't work. So I carved a little more, and now it is working in my PDA.
Thank you very much!

You are most welcome.  I hope others get the message as well.  It is a SIMPLE fix once you know what is going on.

These fake batteries may be just as good as those from unknown companies (ex. Dell and Apple who used batteries from unknown companies like Sony & now Panasonic).

I bought one also (Cameron Sino - 2000mA).  It didn't work in the 3100.  However, when I checked it with a tester it had adequate power.

Suspecting lack of connection (the flashing ws the same as with no battery installed) I folded some aluminum foil and placed it in the three conneting points.  It worked, but I knew that was a DANGEROUS solution. I was at risk of the foil coming out, shorting, fire, etc.

Plan B: I took a pocket knife and carved away a little of the plastic from the bottom side of each point of connection (keyboard side of the battery).  I just removed some of the sharp edge.  With that modification it made positive connection and no more flashing light.  The battery seems to work great so far.

I finally got it.

I never had Tetsu's special kernel installed.  I had changed the name to zImage.bin and not zimage.

Now I think I am getting places.  Now the proc/zaurus directory shows.

From here I went o Meanies sight downloaded qtopia-combbattery... and IT WORKS!

Thanks much.

The under/overclock option from Cacko can be taken to the Sharp Rom by copying the batteryapplet from Cacko and installing it on the Sharp Rom.

I tried a couple of different versions of the copied batteryapplet.  Actually probably the same, but one with a hyphen and the other with an underline.  They do the reboot cycling which I can't get out of, shy reformating and starting from scratch.
How does one copy the applet from Cacko.  I like the convenience of selecting an option rather than going to the command line.
Iam starting to suspect that my Tetsu kernel isn't doing what it is supposed to.  In Kino2 I should be able to select a slower speed under preferences, but nothing shows up.  I think it is suppose to when I have Tetsu's kernel installed.  I used zImage-v18h-C3100.bin and Tetsu's installer.sh (with the .3100 removed from the initial file name of 'updater.sh.3100'.  I did the reset, OK+On, Update, SD.  I got no error messages and several success messages.
How can I know if it really is installed?  It looks like he has the clock patch and core voltage patch included in the version.

If you install the tetsu kernel on the sharp rom then you will get the ability to under/overclock, the standard sharp kernel doesn't offer that.

What "Japanese" do you want that the Japanese support ipk doesn't offer? If you search the forums for "Japanese" you will find an upgrade for the japanese-support-c3100.ipk, or you can try using the c1000 version of the Japanese-support ipk.

The reason for the dodgy Japanese supprt on the C3100 is that I didn't have access to a C3100 and had to extract the files from a C3100 Nand image - I pretty sure on of the input applets got corrupted - hence the reboot cycle.

If you can tar up the /usr/QtPalmtop.rom directory on your Sharp Rom, I can try to "fix" the ipk - if you can't find the fixed version nad are willing to be a guinea-pig

Stu,

I have installed Tetsu's kernel.  I have also installed his batteryplus 1.1.5.  Tetsu's kernel by it self seemed to do nothing noticable, other than put a circle around the penquin at startup from a reboot. On the batteryplus, a I understand it, it starts at normal mode and goes up from there.  When i installed Cacko I got a real over/underclock option.  Am I mission something? I would like to get it down the level Cacko allows.

I have tried the japanese-support-c3100.ipk as well as the japanese-support_c3100.ipk (underline and hypen being the only difference.  Both go into the boot recycle, just like qtopia-combbattery or close from Meanie's site.

I am happy to be a guinea-pig, but aything but a linux master, I will need some heavy 'hand holding' in the process.   The main thing I would like is input capability as well as the fonts etc. for proper display.

Do you know about the speed difference between Cacko and Sharp's roms which some folk alude to?

On my C3100, I have not been able to figure out a way to get the battery application in Cacko working on the Sharp Rom or Japanese input running on Cacko 1.23.

I have read comments about how the Sharp Rom is faster than Cacko.  If that is true, the Sharp Rom would be my preference.  But I want to be able to underclock to extened the battery life when listening to music.   Batter Plus (Tetsu) doesn't seem to be able to do that.  Also the battery information is very 'about'.

I like Cacko's ability to underclock and give more accurate battery readings.  But the closest I can get to getting Japanese is to hand write the Japanese and not use the keyboard.  That happens when I use japanese-support-c3100jaen_1.23_arm.ipk.

japanese-support-c3100_1.23_arm.ipk has issues, that combined with my response, turned by Zaurus into a paperweight for a day and a half. Now happily recovered.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Don't forget that everything in hdd1sys needs to be in a directory named .sys .

Thanks Barry.  I figured it out when it dien't initialize and went back to  the Trisoft information to see what I had done wrong.  Two hours later... I was up.

Trisoft's files are most helpful.  The Rom they use is 1.01, but not a problem to update that to 1.02.

Then I did a Maintance (OK-On), Format (3), Normal (1) and got all the directories etc back just like new.  Just need to add the dictionary get back to Meanie's sige and get some programs...

Try something like:

Code: [Select]
mkdir /mnt/hda1
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
cp -a /dev/hdc1/hddsys/* /mnt/hda1/
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=137882\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Many THANKS to those of you how hopped on and helped through the process.  You all were most helpful and encouraging.  I have my Zaurus back.

I don't want to admit the time I spent on it.  But  I learned a lot.

The helpfulness of the 'community' was most impressive.  Again THANKS.

Pretty sure if you go fdisk, then hit o, then hit w, that will clear out all the partition info and write out the mbr.  Then run fdisk again to set up the correct partitions.  Also make sure you're fdisking the correct card!

Thanks!  I got the idea of using HDD Clear in the DM menu which worked, but your suggestion would have been faster. I used 'o' then 'w' it to restore the CF.  It worked.

I think I am close.  One more linux question:

How do I copy 'cp' /dev/hdc1/hddsys/*.* to /dev/hda1 from the linux prompt ?

Once I have reduced my 4gb HDD to 1GB by doing an HDD restore from a 1gb CF, is it forever 1gb?  Or if I purchase a 4gb CF, format it like the HDD is supposed to be formatted, and get the necessary files on it, could I do another HDD restore and get back the 4gb?

Any one know?

What I tried:
I set heads, sectors and cylinders as they were supposed to be, but the result was still 1gb.

Deleting all partitions didn't help.

There should be a ROM on the original CD..
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=137786\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Thanks for the ideas.

I just checked the manual.  There may be a way - Maintanance menu, complete reformat, normal.  At least it looked hopeful. Unfortunately I got an HDD1 Error!!  I am trying HDD Restore now on the DM menu.  Not so sure what that will do.

I checked all three CDs and didn't find anything on them that looked like it would become a ROM.

Later...
My guess is that guess the HDD restore was to restore the HDD from a CF.  Doing a HDD check, all three partitions were trashed.  Looks like more work, more money or an expensive paper weight.  I will start with more work.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 Is Released

I flashed over my Sharp Rom C3100 (Japanese original) to replace it with Cacko.  I didn't do a NAND backup. I thought it was available on the internet. I am having the same problem as others with the Japanese portion of 1.23 working.

It looked like a work around might be possible with a Japanese version and some file copying...  For a guy like me without the original NAND, am I out of luck?  I tried Trisoft's NAND backup - works, but no Japanese.  Meanie's Japanese support (japanese-support-c3100jaen_1.23_arm.ipk) works with Cacko 1.23 except for keyboard text entries.  Using the keyboard to enter Japanese shuts down the program text is being entered into.

If anyone has some thougts as to how I can get my hands on a for Japanese ROM for the 3100 1.02 - I would appreciate it.

Also keyboard entry of Japanese in Cacko 1.23 using the above japanese-support ipk would also be much appreciated.
