Archos forum / Av 500 Locking Up When Recording Tv

I think that the problem is to do with what archos call 'an electrostatic phenomena'. I find that whenever im recording and my archos is connected to the tv, press the right directional button causes it to lock up. As a result, whenever i record ANYTHING, i put a sheet of paper in between my finger and the button, so that there is no direct contact between me and my archos. No lockup, no nuisance, no time wasted recording movies only to have it lock up at the last minute. =)

HOLD UP PEOPLE

DO NOT IMMEDIATELY REFORMAT THE HARD DRIVE.
 i had this problem also, and so what i did was to change it from hard drive mode to wmp mode. My computer recognised it fine. I left it plugged in like that for half an hour, synchronized  the archos with my wmp (it doesnt delete the material already there). Once it was  all synchronized, i changed it back to hard drive mode and it worked fine, just deleting any files wmp had added.. I have had no problems since.

This may well be the case, as all videos on my archos av500 30gb play with good brightness, even in daylight.

What you can do on many video converting programs is to add brightness to the file (you can in many cases also increase contrast); if you are recording from a tv, you can manually increase the brightness of the recording on the recording settings menu.
My preferred encoder is the 'Pocket DivX Encoder', which specifically converts videos to archos format. This program allows you to increase the brightness aswell.

If it is really that big a problem, id suggest asking for a new one.
