looks good, yes, but battery life is the challenge. If there is an extended battery option this might be more of an option.
Still not as sexy as my Z
why is cutting edge technlology not as sexy looking as 4 year old tech?
I'm getting annoyed waiting for the last 3 years for a Z killer.........still haven't found one....might have to settle for the pandora for now...  10h battery life predicted

ugly as sin, but I have been tempted by this one as well.
Considered one of the best devices "Chippy" has ever used as still returns back to time and time again for its real life usefulness.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?

interesting - phone + zaurus

http://www.jkontherun.com/2008/10/sharp-9225h--ph.html

http://www.jkontherun.com/images/2008/10/1...ndset_open.jpeg

In the "at least it's not the same old, same old" department, AVING has spotted a handset from Sharp that looks and acts like a MID. The 9225H is surprisingly small and thin yet has a Sharp Zaurus-like keyboard inside that looks pretty darn functional. It has a 3.5-inch wide VGA screen and a little LED display on the outside while in handset mode for phone functions. This will probably never step foot out of Asia but it's great to see something totally different.

I am pretty excited about this, but would always prefer
 1. A lower price (Current Estimate is $750)
2. Clamshell
3. Have it available right now!!!

Once this gets released I will be very tempted - even more if Ubuntu portable will work....

Has anyone on the forum pre-ordered yet?

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale - Zaurus 3100 With Dual Wifi And Sd
« on: November 15, 2007, 09:59:28 pm »
I am selling my Zaurus C3100.

It is in very very good condition, as new. It has the US type charger, the usb client cable for sync and a usb host cable. It also has the Zaurus leather case, plus a pouch I bough for it as I find it more convenient.

It comes in its original box, japanese CDs and manuals. I also have 2 wifi CF cards and a 1 gig SD. Both wifi cards work excellent on this zaurus.

Currently I have PDAxii13 running quite well

Well I am putting the specs here are if you are looking for Zaurus, you already know.

416mhz Intel XScale CPU
64MB RAM
128MB flash memory
4GB internal microdrive
3.7" 640 x 480 TFT CG Silicon display (pivotable, touchscreen)
CF card slot
SD card slot
Integrated QWERTY thumbboard
Mini-USB port (USB 1.1 compatible, supports USB host)
IR port
Mono speaker
Headphone jack (can also be used with external microphone)
Size: 4.9 x 3.4 x 1.0 inches (124 x 87 x 25mm).
Weight: 10.5 ounces (298 grams).

Battery works great.

Local preferred (Canada, Toronto) asking for $475 or best offer.  Would like to sell this soon if possible.
Thanks for looking

If you could 'pay' for an OS for your Z ... How much would you pay?

Just a thought from another thread ... just how much would you pay for a OS running on your Z? Shoot ....

I would be willing to sacrifice nice vista graphics and ...some.. other features for a wickedly fast rom responce.....

just me 2 cents

Debian / Installing Debian Base, Without Needing A Network Connection!

I'm copying a post of ZDevil here. I think the topic deserves a thread of its own!

ZDevil wrote:

Actually installing Debian can be as easy as installing Cacko, pdaXrom (non-uboot versions) and Angstrom.

There is an alternative way to install it without using networking.

*** The "10-step-self-help guide to enjoying a popular penguin" ***

Just start from here: http://www.bigbridgezau.sakura.ne.jp/dev/debian/

#1 Download 4 things and copy them to the root of SD:
updater.sh
gnu-tar
zImage-2.6.17-cpufreq-fastfpe.bin OR zImage-2.6.20-cpufreq.bin (This is the kernel; rename it to zImange.bin)
hddrootfs.tar.gz (This is the base system and Etch; rename it to hdimage1.tgz)

#2 Reboot the Z while pressing [OK] to enter the flash menu

#3 Just flash as usual by choosing "4" and then "SD" and then "Y"

#4 If things go well (they should), then kernel will flash and the big tarball will decompress to /dev/hda1. This may take an hour.

#5 Installation will complete itself and reboot the machine. Debian is ready to go!

#6 You can then do the postinstallation steps as descibed in "After installation" in the titchy linux wiki: http://wiki.neilandtheresa.co.uk/Titchy_Linux/Installing

#7 To upgrade from Etch ("stable" but a bit dated) and Lenny ("testing" and the new stuff), change "etch" to "lenny" in /etc/apt/sources.list

#8 apt-get update

#9 apt-get dist-upgrade

#10 Wow!

Plus two desserts:

#11 If you fancy playing with over/underclocking, grab the dvfm binary (not the armel.zip) from the japanese link above.

#12 If you feel like trying different (Angstrom) kernels, three versions are available: 2.6.17-fastfpe-cpufreq, 2.6.20-cpufreq, 2.6.22-cpufreq.
Remember to use the same updater.sh from the download location of the kernel!
More discussion this way: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=24815.
And be CAREFUL: do NOT flash the kernel with the big installation tarball, because your disk may get reformatted and wiped clean and overwritten with a clean install!

End of quote!

Be cautious and make lists of your network files and sources.list. I didn't and it has been a little inconvenient!   Well done ZDevil!

Thanks for you help - I have been able to install debian to my 3100 - but I can not get my ambicom wifi working. I made it up to step 5 - is there a way to get a gui at this stage or do I need to get online? I thought the title "Installing Debian Without Using A Network Connection" would mean I would have a working GUI?    Am I mistaken?
THanks for your help.

Debian / Debian On C3xxx (merged Topics)
« on: October 02, 2007, 07:55:45 pm »
Hello,
I tried Debian but could not get to full install with my SL-C3100- I only spent an hour or so playing around.
Is it possible to get someone to copy their hard drive and install it on my 3100 if the partitions are the same? I know the file might be large, but I would be willing to host it for other newbie members to download.
If not, any ideas on how much work it would take to get the install as seamless as the full PDAxii13?

.....oh yeah.... I would be willing to pay for a hard drive copy with instructions on how to install and/or to help make Titchy an easier install.

Hello,
Just a few questions please:

1.Are there any emulators that work well for debian arm?

2.What about notepad or a quick way to scribble notes?

3.What are the top 5 apps that the Debian users are using currently?

4. What does Pdaxii13 do better?

Thanks in advance

General Discussion / What Is The Best Rom For The Zaurus For 2007
« on: September 20, 2007, 07:38:18 pm »
I just got a 3100 and have tried PDAXii13 - it's pretty good except for the speed. I was excited to try debian (even though rotate does not work?) but I cant get it to install. If someone copied their HD (ie as a backup) and posted it online for me to download - couldn't I just restore my 3100 to a full working debian system? Wouldn't this be easier in general ?

THanks in advance

Thanks for everyones help. Just a bit of clarification please

PdaXii13 - pdaXii13 is a bug fixed and customised version of pdaXrom beta3 ?

how does this differ in speed/performace/program availability compared to

PdaXrom with Meanie's great SP8 fixes?

Will all ipk packages work on all different Roms? ( Cacko, PdaXii13, PdaXrom, Angstrom) or are there seperate repositories for them?

Which rom version has the most programs currently?

Thanks in advance

General Discussion / What Is The Best Rom For The Zaurus For 2007
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:16:06 pm »
Hello,
I just purchased a Z on Ebay (SL-C1000) and am looking to get some opinions before it gets here.
I would like to know what is the best ROM out there for 2007. Many of the other posts I have found were from 2005 and complain about certain bugs that the community was actively trying to resolve.

I realize that there are no perfect roms, but if you can list the rom you currently use and why you prefer it over another it would help out tremendously.

Roms I know of:
Cacko
Ångström
pdaXrom

Ubuntu mobile?

Thanks!

P.S - I dont want to sound like a hypocrite based on my other postings - I sold my Z (750) a few years ago and have been trying to find an alternative ever since. I finally gave up and just purchased the SL-C1000 yesterday. If the HTC Omni ever gets released I might have to rethink this again. For now - LONG LIVE THE Z!!!

« on: August 27, 2007, 07:53:18 pm »
Via just released a new version of the Mobile-ITX motherboard. This thing is small (credit card size) and powerful. 3"x1.8"

This can easily turn into a x86 zaurus - how cool with a mobile Ubuntu OS!!
