5x00 General discussions / 5500 Rom Recommendation

As so many of the posts start:
"I just got a new 5500, and..."
"I have read a ton of stuff online, but..."

I'm hoping that my relatively finite objectives for the Zaurus 5500, will point to a clear winner among the existing ROMs.  I would like my Z to run the following programs:

-python
-vim
-any mp3 player
-any internet browser
-simple games (sudoku and mindbreaker type stuff)
-any jpeg viewer
-calendar, to do list, etc

Which ROM would you recommend?  Note: I'm totally new to unix except for the OS X terminal.

Also, I plan to put a 1Gb SD card and a 802.11b or g CF card in it.  Any recommendations on what to get (or not get).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom On Sl-5500 For Dummies

So... has anybody been successful in implementing these steps to get pdaxrom working on their 5500?  This discussion ended about two months ago, and both participants seemed less than happy with the upgrade.  Would love to hear a success story before I embark on this adventure, I already have enough bricks .

Note: my reason for moving to pdaxrom is so that I can run Python, Vim, an internet browser and mp3 player.  Pdaxrom is the only one that seems to support all four.  Any other ideas???
