Thanks for the reply.
I have pdaxrom flashed on my C700 now. However, I'm really keen on getting a chrooted debian environment .

I need the following on my Z.

GTK 2
PERL
RUBY
PYTHON

Questions:
Would pocketworkstation work with PdaXrom?
Does Debian use the PdaXrom X server or run its on?
How will this run on the C700?

Final Question:
Am I going about this all wrong? Do I need to put debian on my C700 to achieve getting the packages above?

My goal is to use the PDA to develop RFID applications. I have an ACG reader (CF2) card and need the dev capabilities above.

pdaXrom already has gtk2, python, perl and maybe even ruby and you can just compile it if it doesn't. why are you so obsessed with debian?
the question you should be asking is whether the Zaurus will even recognise your RFID card and whether you will be able to use it in the first place since you would need to get the appropriate kernel modules compiled for it if they don't exist yet. pocketworkstation does not have its own kernel for the Zaurus so it would be quite useless.

[/quote]

Well.. I'm not obsessed with debian. It's just something that I'm comfortable with.
I didn't know that perl was included..  "perl" from the command line says command not found. DO I need to install it from a feed?

As for the hardware goes.. there is an .ipk for the RfDump program but I don't think I need any drivers for it? I'll look more into that.

I'm guessing that linux talks to it like a modem or something ( 9600 baud so on )

The more I use pdaxrom the more I like it I must say. It was freezing a lot on me until I deleted a lot of files from my CF and SD for some reason. Not it's working a lot better. It seemed this was just with the pointer ( bash would still respond )

Thanks

Cxx0 Hardware / C700 With Rfid Cf Reader
« on: August 23, 2006, 08:00:51 pm »
Hey guys,

I would like to use my Z to play with RFID tags. I have a 13.56 ACG reader that should use /dev/ttyS0 on a standard linux machine.

How would I get this working on my Z? How do I verify it's working also?

http://www.rfdump.org/dl/rfdump_pl.gz
This is a sample script that works on linux. ( Perl script )

It looks very simple I suppose.

The reader just sits there and waits until data is sent to it.

Ok,

I grabbed what I thought was the correct pdaXrom-builder file. This was in the downloads and about 25mb I think.
It was a bz2 file..

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...7.12.05.tar.bz2

Is this what I need? I untarred the file to my SD card and it looks like a linux file system. I didnt see the "3" files I needed to extract to the root of my card.

I have a C700 with Sharp/Cacko ROM and I'm wanting to get debian or something similar up and running.. With limited resource I would like to have a single install.

Any ideas?

no. this is what you need: [a href=\"http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-Cxx00/]http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-Cxx00/[/url]

Ok, so the link you gave me above will work with my c700?

For a little clarification-- after I reflash the images below.. what type of linux system will this be? Is it based of debian or some derivitive?

Not clear on if I can add packages like PERL and GTK2.0+??

I'm planning on using these instructions----

It works!

Here is my brief log:

Reboot
Do a NAND backup!

[a href=\"http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta4/Zaurus-7x0-860/new/pdaXrom-1.1.0beta4-Kathrin-corgi-current.zip]http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...rgi-current.zip[/url]

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...rgi-current.zip
&
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...rgi-current.zip
per:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19809

Extract them and put these files on the SD card:
emergenc.img
u-boot.bin
updater.pro
updater.sh
autoboot.sh
kernel.img
rootfs.img

Pull plug & battery for 10 seconds to reset.

Put in SD card.
Put in battery and plug in.
Hold down OK while turning on.
Option 4.
Then SD (or CF if that is what you have I guess).
Then Y.

It shoudl start "Writing " lots of numbers!

Whatch it, when it says it is done and going to reboot, then HOLD OK down until the "pdaXrom emergency system" comes up.

You should see it "Erasing ..." with percent

then "Writing data to block ..." with lots of numbers. (Green LED flashes as it writes too, but the scrolling numbers are just as useful to know something is happening.)

Then at some point it finishes and starts booting.

The green LED is now your "Flash access" light, kind of light a hard drive light on a desktop. So you can tell it is working when the green LED is either dimly lit or flashing. This is useful since things seem to take their time to boot up, and leave you at odd places with no output.

I am now at # prompt!! Cool.

EDIT: no flicker problem once it is fully booted.

Now to see if I can make everything work just like before. Hmm, if I want it to work like before, why did I upgrade?

Cxx0 Hardware / Kde On C700
« on: August 21, 2006, 02:41:28 am »
Hey Guys,

I saw this screenshot:
http://zaurus.vivaphp.net/shots/AbiWord_in_KDE.gif

This guy has KDE running..

Is this possible on my C700 series?

I have a 34MB CF card and will buy a 1G SD card tomorrow as I have been told my 2GB SD will not work with the C700..

I would LOVE to have KDE on it but not sure how slow it would be????
Also, wonder if I could fit all this on a 1g SD card ..

I need to use the CF card for my RFID reader/Writer.

What do I need to install this on my new C700? It has old version of Cacko / Qtopia 1.5.4 on it.

I would like to install pdaXrom..

Does anyone have instructions? I have a 32mb CF card and will have a 1g SD after I take the 2G SD back that doesn't work in my Z.

I'm looking to install a version of linux that allows me to install perl, KDE, so on.

Is this what pdaXrom is?

Cheers,

JP

Yes, I used the TCP/IP setting in both the Zaurus(PC Link) and PC(Zaurus Manager), the sync works but not the File Transfer

In installing the driver, what should I use Network or Serial?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=128872\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sorry to take so long getting back to you ... of the three options on the PC under Zaurus Manager, I use "USB-TCP/IP (Advanced)". But if sync works, file transfer ought to as well. Hmmmph.

I actually don't use File Transfer that much anymore, as it's faster doing it wirelessly over my WAP ...

Edit again: Looking at the two options in the driver folder on my Windoze box, I don't remember which one I used! If one doesn't work, try the other.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=129672\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Where do you find the windows drivers for the C700? I can't access it either and the drivers I downloaded with the Zaurus Manager v3.1 ( 5500 I think) didn't work either.

XP also reports my C700 as a C760 for some reason. ( Its gray and only has 32RAM)

Cxx0 General discussions / C700 To Windows? No Drivers.. Cant Ssh
« on: August 21, 2006, 12:39:46 am »
((https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=C700))
The windows driver can switch between network and IO modes. I set mine to network and disabled the checking service and other stuff, so it now always comes up just like any USB network adapter. It uses Samba to display the local storage as well as the SD and CF cards if inserted, and you can do ssh or other things if you install them.
>>>

I have a C700 and cant get my WINxp box to reconize it.. It comes up in windoze as a C760 but I can't locate drivers.

I got this off ebay. Zaurus 3.1 manager doesnt reconize the device so I can't Sync it or anything. I would really like to access the device through windows to access the SD/CF cards and SSH into it. I don't want to spend a LOT of time trying to write shell scripts on a little keyboard   I can write them on another box but it would be a LOT easier if I could SSH into it.

Thanks!

not really sure but type in cacko in a search engine and i think cacko 1.23 supports the bigger cards or that site has a ipkg that will let it reconize the bigger card but don;t quote me on that as i am new too
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=139232\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Cacko 1.23 does not support over 1GB SD Cards.  There is a Sharp SD driver that shipped with the C3200 that works with up to 4GB SD cards.  It also works with Cacko 1.23 but, only with the C1000, C3000, C3100 and, of course, the C3200.  It will not work with a C700.

You should be able to find your Cacko version by tapping on the Settings tab and then tapping the System Info icon.  Once that loads, tap the Version tab (it is the very last one and you will need to tap the right arrow button on the tab bar to get to it).  It should be listed under the ROM Version line.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=139241\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yea, I tried that.. It only has the Qtopia (1.5.4) and linux kernel version ( 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3.emb) compiled by Sharp.

So I need to trade the card for a 1g SD card? I assume that will work with my c700.

Also, will I need to update to Cacko 1.23 ? ( Guessing I have an older version)

I bought the large SD card because I need to install debian ( need PERL, so on)
. I have a CF RFID reader/writer I want to write software/tools around. So that is why I bought the Zaurus ( CF2 slot and it runs linux)

Cheers!!
