Before you buy this card for your sl5500, please see my thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11745

It recognizes the card, but nothing works properly!

Accessories / Help! Problems With Cfu1 (cf->usb)
« on: April 05, 2005, 03:15:10 pm »
Hello all,
Was trying to get the CFU1 card working properly on a SL5500 and having absolutely no luck. For some reason the card works flawlessly with my C760, but will not work at all on the SL5500.

Have tried:
1) plainjane Sharp 3.13 (fresh install + drivers)
2) Cacko Kernel + theKompany ROM alpha3 + drivers
3) Opie 3.13 beta (freshinstall + builtin drivers)

I downloaded drivers from
http://www.sky.sannet.ne.jp/morostar/zaurus/Zaurus.html
(or go direct to the download page at http://www.sky.sannet.ne.jp/morostar/download/download.html)
which has the driver set + all the modules (many of which I have never seen).

Unfortunately, the person who made the original driver is no longer online - http://paipai.org/~humorum/pukiwiki/pukiwi...ZaurusCfu1_dist (dead link). But it looks like the drivers are the newest ones. The drivers are going to the right place, and everything should just work, but I'm obviously missing something...

Anyway, I don't understand why this seems to work perfectly on the C760 and not work at all on the SL5500, as I dont believe it has any kernel modifications that are necessary. In fact, the driver seems to load up when the card is inserted, but the devices I've tested (a keyboard and a barcode reader) will not ever power up if I connect them after the CF card is inserted.
I can *sometimes* get the devices to power up if I hook them up before inserting the cf card, but even when that heppens, it still fails to pass any data. And many times after repeated tries, the whole unit will hard-lock - needing the battery to be pulled to reboot.

I'm at wits end - any help out there? Or does anyone know how Maslovsky made it happen on the C7x0 Roms? What are the magical incantations I'm missing here??

Someone indicated to me that my original design at 320x240 was "too busy". Here's an alternate.

Notes:
1) The inner scroll bar is just an idea. If people would rather scroll with the browser scroll window, that's fine too.
2) I made the drop down list opaque and minimized now as it's been demo'ed in my original 320x240 design.
3) I intend the user login/pass option to be a separate page that's accessible from the User options page (along with all the other stuff like categories, etc).

Thoughts?

Accessories / Candidate for Storage Removal for Zaurus

My vote goes to the Rio Carbon. 5GB CF card which will work fine (engineers have confirmed that Rio aren't bothering with making the CF card unusable in other devices - ie, it will work in both IDE and memory modes). Price is cheap too. Only problem is, that a memory card will NOT work in the Carbon (ie swapping in a replacement CF card) if it's not in IDE mode (the only ones that are in IDE mode are the "closed" cards, or the Seagate cards coming out next year which do both).

What you might want to consider, is the Archos Gmini220 which has a CF slot (you can use it like a filestore).

Hey all,
I've been meaning to post up the 320x240 version of one of my designs... so here it is!
Note, in the picture, the Drop Down list is transparent and truncated - this is just for legibility's sake (so you can see the table beneath. In usage, this would be where all the categories and options could go (depending on login, etc).

If you have any questions, holler!

General Discussion / e-books - where to get them
« on: November 05, 2004, 10:20:35 am »
If you're into Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy books, http://www.baen.com is great. Has a free library, as well as a webscription model for selling ebooks. Best thing about it, is that they're the only publisher that doesn't use DRM (on purpose).

Here's a plug for a Toronto-based writer, check out Cory Doctorow's website for two scifi books released under the Creative Commons license (go there for more Creative Commons distributed audio/video/images/text/etc).

Having flown with PDAs many times, the worst they'll ask you to do is to turn the PDA on (to make sure it really is a working PDA and not a shell for something more nefarious). As such, make sure it's charged and in good working order.

For Sale / Wanted / WANTED: SL-5000 Battery (NEW) in Canada

Just an aside, I've never been able to pick up Zaurus accessories (other than stylii, since the stylii for the Tungsten line of Palm Pilots fit) in Canada. I'd recommend Brando (Hong Kong) for accessories - bought a bunch of stuff and the shipping was fairly reasonable.

ps. If you ever buy from the States, never use UPS. The brokerage charges will kill you.

I checked just to be sure, but unfortunately, Textmaker (2002) does not support the "track changes" function. Apparently, it is in the works for the "next version", but I have no idea when that's coming out, nor how long it'll take for the feature to trickle down to the Zaurus version (logically, I would think it would be fairly soon after the Linux version comes out, but who knows?).

is there a screen shot of this guy anywhere?

Okay, I'm assuming you want a screenshot of the program and not the author right??

Here's a shot (and a mini review):

Actually, I wouldnt mind trying PW under XQt - would you happen to know if there's a specific ipk for it (instead of the whole siag suite)?

Software / Anyone ever consider porting Ted
« on: October 25, 2004, 05:20:30 pm »
Hello,
I posted this in the "User Requests for Applications" forum, but since it seems that not many people check out that forum, I decided it might be more effective if I posted here. I hope that since this might affect a large amount of users (anyone who is dissapointed with Hancomm word and needs a simple+good word processor), that you don't mind the cross post.
--- begin xpost ---

With the dearth of word processors for the Z, I was wondering if anyone had ever considered porting Ted. It's a WYSIWYG rtf editor, with lots of features (check out http://www.nllgg.nl/Ted/) - even a proper spell check! I noticed Ted when I was playing around with Damn Small Linux on an old laptop, and thought it would make a really good addition to the Z (heck, it's already way better than Hancom, and hopefully it'll be quicker than Textmaker).

Unfortunately, it's only for X, so it might be a little challenging to port to QT - however, if so would anyone consider compiling it for XQT/PDAXROM?

Thanks,
Yz

dz & amrein: Thanks for the nice words! I wouldn't worry about graphic sizes, as the palette's easily fit into 7bit colour gifs/pngs (and can be quite small).

Here's a version I made (in about 20 seconds!) with a different colour scheme (for those that don't care for the blues). It's a "gold" theme:

Thoughts? BTW, any suggestions would be great. I do think that my designs are somewhat "standard", but that's only because I didn't want to go too nuts (miniaturizing elaborate designs can be difficult).

Okay, here's an attempt with the my first logo. It's kind of an "ice" theme...

For those that worry, the whole page as one big picture is only ~28kb. Once cut down to chunks, and stuff changed to css etc, it'll be tiny.

I wanted to address some of the new layouts etc, however, you're site seems to be down dz...

Thoughts?
