Deals and Great Z Buys / Lexar 512 Mb Cf Card, $14.99 A/r
« on: November 24, 2004, 08:33:15 pm »
$49.99 at Amazon.com

$20 amazon.com mail-in rebate

$15 manufacturer mail-in rebate

Valid through 11/27/04.  The manufacturers' rebate says "may not be combined with any other Lexar-Sponsored offers". It sounds okay to me, but they could be picky about it. Even without the $15 off, it's still a good deal at $29.99 (it's just a GREAT deal at $14.99).

General Discussion / Zaurus suitable for non-geeks?
« on: October 25, 2004, 07:41:35 am »
chiming in late here, but the Zaurii are fine for geeks and non-geeks alike (and those who are somewhere in between, such as myself). As you've already discovered, you don't need to use the command line for some everyday tasks.
back to the command line: on the 5600, you need to download a terminal app from sharp. not sure if this is pre-installed on the 6000. as for emacs, again, not sure if that's there, but if it's not, you can find it (and tons of other apps) here:

enjoy!

General Discussion / Zaurus 6000 pulled out of USA

Maybe this was already here, but i just saw it:

from ZDNet.
For what it's worth, every device I've ever really liked was discontinued at some point. I don't just mean taken off the market for an upgraded model, I mean finished, shut down. First Sony, now Sharp. Oh well.

out of curiosity, what format did you format the card in? fat16 or something else? i think fat16 is the default under windows.

Not sure what the brand is. 90 day warranty is a bit of a concern, too. Anyone ever heard of these?

General Discussion / audio only in one ear
« on: August 03, 2004, 07:41:52 pm »
thanks for the tip, that sounds right. HOWEVER - and this is extremely weird, and what i'm wondering is if you think i should send it in anyway - after uninstalling the madplay driver and otr player, i raised the volume using the applet (the volume icon - applet may be the wrong term, i'm revealing my windows-usage here) and - magically, audio played in both ears again. is that just a fluke? should i send it to sharp anyway?
thanks for your help. sharp should pay the moderators of this site big bucks since it makes using a zaurus such a pleasure.
btw, nice icon.

hi,

has anyone ever had this problem? i listen to mp3s with my zaurus (5600), and last week the audio started wokring in only one ear. i thought it might be a software issue (i had recently installed otr player and madplay) but after uninstalling those packages and rebooting the problem persists. jiggling the headphone jack helps, and if i position it just right (with the male end about halfway in), the audio plays in both ears.
the device is about 6 months old, so hopefully warranty still applies. has anyone ever had to deal with sharp for a repair?
thanks in advance,
-b

TapSmart KeyLink - A Keyboard Alternative
This is a driver that lets you connect a Palm device to a standard (USB) keyboard.
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a similar piece of software for Zaurii.
