Hi All,

Well I got my SL5000D back from Sharp about 4 days ago. YEA!!

::Flashback Start::

 << snip >>

::Flashback End::

Anyway, just so everyone knows, if a Sharp Rep tells you its free, its not.  Its going to cost you just about the same as buying one on eBay. Also they did not provide the ROM on the CF card, so glad I sent that along. Back to hunting for a Stock ROM for a SL5000D. I know, I know, OZ 3.5.x is much better, but its nice to know I could flash it back to stock if I needed to. So if anyone has the ROM (Sharp insists that 1.3a is the latest for SL5000D), please ping me.

Thanks,

Hello Zaurus Users,

I need help, am in deep troble,

I manage to flash my zaurus with the zimage and initrd.bin files in the /mnt/cf directory,
but was not successful, what happened was that after press C+D and Full Reset both the battary light and mail light come on for just about a second and every thing went off,

For about three days now i can just put on the Zaurus, every thing has gone completely off, not even the battary light comes on when i plug in the A/C adapter.

any one with an idea, as to what i should do?

I am suspecting the Bios and the Battary inside the Zaurus, but am not very sure.

I really need to fixed it cuz i have been able to use it ever since i bought it, this problem happened that very day i had the Zaurus.

Please some one should help me out.

Not sure this will work.

Unplug the mains power
Take out the CF Card.
Take out the Battery. Wait a minute or 2, replace making sure you have it the correct way round ( too easy to insert it the wrong way )
re-connect the mains power.
Press and hold D+P hit the reset button.
hopefully you should get the diagnostic screen up.

5x00 General discussions / Sync 5500 To Linux

Hi,

I can sync with Windows Outlook via USB but I'm now trying to do the same with my SuSE 9.2 Desktop, Using QTopia 1.7, this does not see the Z.
I've followed the instructions from the SuSE Site, I can ping both ways so I know there is communication I just can't get them to sync.

I have tried various ROMs, OZ 3.5.3, OZ 3.5.2, Sharp 3.10 and currently have theKompanyrom Finale release 1.0.

Basicly all I want is:
Music
Spreadsheets ( compat with OoO calc but XL will do )
contacts  and calendar
Sync'ing and FTP to save removing the SD/CF Cards to copy files when using SuSE.

PS, I've just broken my Panasonic SD Card not sure if it was with removing it from the Z to a Card Reader or from using OZ 3.5.3 64 meg mem which puts the file system on the SD card. The card is now only read only so I am not able to format it, so I am guessing that in swapping it from the Z to the Reader I have maybe bent the card which as broken the internal connection to lock the card, Any one have a similar exp?

I pulled my hair out for quite awhile trying to make usb-networking work properly in Linux, it never really did.  I then bought a wireless network card for my Z (netgear Ma701) and all was well.  The new version of Kontact syncs with the PIM apps on my zaurus with VERY little configuration, and the fish protocol (files over ssh) allows me to seamlessly move files between the zaurus and my desktop.  I just launch Konqueror and type fish://root@<ZaurusIP>  and all is well.  The horrible, and proprietary Qtopia desktop sucks no matter what platform it is used on.

I hope this helps.

I'd like to do this with out spending any money on new kit if I can help it.

5x00 Hardware / Formatting Sd Card.. Fat16 Vs Ext2

My SD Cards is stuffed, it's stuck in Read Only mode, unable to reformat it with the Z or from Windows / Linux Desktops.
Did you check the little switch on the side that locks it in read only? I only ask because I have read where some users have found this locked! ('slightly moved'... enough to lock)

Switch checked numerus times, I asked a friend to see if he can format it in his camera.

Well, whatever that command is, it did my sd card in.
It is no longer useable on my z.. system info shows it half full when it is empty, and I can't fdisk it or format it to either fat or ext2 on the z.
All I get are error messages for everything...

#umount /dev/mmcda1

#fdisk /dev/mmcda
Unable to open /dev/mmcda

#mkfs.ext2 /dev/mmcda1
mkfs.ext2: Device size reported to be zero. Invalid partition specified, or partition table wasn't rereadable after running fdisk, due to a modified partition being busy and in use. You may need to reboot to re-read your partition table

(rebooting does no good)

#mkfs.mdsos /dev/mmcda1
mkfs.msdos 2.8 (28 Feb 2001)
mkfs.msdos: Attempting to create a too large file system

It works ok on my laptop though... go figure.

Luckly, I have another card that I can use on my z.
I'M LEAVING THAT ONE ALONE!!

My SD Cards is stuffed, it's stuck in Read Only mode, unable to reformat it with the Z or from Windows / Linux Desktops. Taking it to work in the morning, maybe someone may have a Camera that will format it.

Sharp ROMs / My SL5000D after flash ROM,can help?
« on: May 14, 2004, 03:16:33 pm »
Jasandpal  & Carpy

First, Jasandpal got your PM but am afraid I have not got it fixed - bought another Z 5500 instead, may send the Z5000 back to Sharp to fix if I can afford it.

Second, There is a Diagnostic page you could try that will test writting to ROM if that passes the test you maybe able to fix your Zs but mine fails the write test, I taking that the failed flash inavertantly write protected the ram chip.  The Diagnostic page can be found using  C + P, on the first page bottom right tap version and it will list what you have flashed yours too.

Third, Carpy  that bumph above is exactly what mine displays

Best of luck , if you find a cheap resolution drop me a line.

5x00 General discussions / dead battery or dead zaurus?
« on: April 09, 2004, 07:07:18 am »
Page 1 option 5 - On each press of the \'OK\' button it scrolls through sreen tests then power and mail lights.
Page 2 option 4 shows battery state.

My bricked Z passes all tests apart from :-
Page 1 option 2 \'Aging\', where it crashes doing a Ram Check (Write) at about 50% or on,
Page 2 option 5 \'Ram\', Ram Check (R/W) [Write] at about 50% crashes.

I suppose it could be fixed by removing the chip and replacing it.

Update on my last post.

Plug power directly to Z and did a D & P soft reset and got the Diagnostic Menu up without the battery in stalled.

This was test with my bricked sl5000.

Tested my bricked sl5000d with no battery, once you try and turn it on the battery light starts to flash. It does not actually switch on so I take that a battery does need to be installed for it to boot up.

General Discussion / Rom advice for 5500
« on: January 31, 2004, 02:41:57 pm »
Right, finally got a replacement for my broken Z5d replaces will a Z5500.

Flashed it to the sharp 3.10 Rom working nicely with sync etc.

Now what I want to know is which, of the custom Roms  OZ /TKR or others will allow mounting of the Root / Home to SD and what format does the card need to be at the time of flashing to mount.
