Zaurus - pdaXrom / Voip With Pdaxii13
« on: August 15, 2007, 06:11:20 am »
Hi portalgod,

thanks for your reply :-)

From which feed did you take kphonesi and sipphone?
And which codecs did you use?

I never tried sipphone but I remember that kphonesi would somewhere work on my Zaurus but not really well...

Thanks,
Gatu

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Voip With Pdaxii13
« on: August 12, 2007, 05:23:06 am »
Hi,

I know that there was already a thread but this was some time ago and I see no final conclusion from it.

Which of the several kphone variants and other similar programs (ekiga, linphone) has best chance to work decently with sip providers?

I tried kphone 4.xx somd time ago (possibly it was 4.04) and after some tries I got it working but I was not so happy with the gui.

Is there anything better now? Does Ekiga already work with Pdaxii13? When I tried it last time it would not even start.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Trouble Installing Hdimage On Sd For Pdaxii13 Full
« on: August 12, 2007, 05:00:31 am »
Hi,

I am not completely clear about this instruction from Meanie:

"Once /mnt/card2 is mounted, extract everything from hdimage-full.tgz into /mnt/card2, then copy everything from /etc to /mnt/card2/hdd1/etc and /home to /mnt/card2/hdd1/home. After that, move everything from /mnt/card2/hdd1 to /mnt/card2. Following this, copy everything back from /mnt/card2/etc to /etc and /mnt/card2/home to /home."

This sounds to me like: "copy files, directories, subdirectories etc...", so I do

cp -Rf /etc/* /mnt/card2/hdd1/etc/
cp -Rf /home/* /mnt/card2/hdd1/home/
mv /mnt/card2/hdd1 /mnt/card2
cp -Rf /mnt/card1/etc/* /etc/
cp -Rf /mnt/card1/home/* /home/

Operation seems to complete but I see some error messages/warnings and I get some deeply nested directories like /home/root/cf/cf/cf/cf/cf.... and others. Everything seems to work afterwards but I am not finally sure.

Should I rather than copying whole trees rather copy only some files?
Or how should I proceed?

I am using built 5.4.8 and I own a C1000.

Thanks you for any help,
Gatu

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Problem Installing Pdaxii13 On Akita
« on: February 25, 2007, 07:11:44 pm »
Hi,

I flashed sucessfully pdaXii13 (akita-base-version) from http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/akita/  on my C1000, but when I try to update to the full installation ipk-batch-install.sh will not find some of the packages from the list ipk-batch-install.txt and others will be defective.

I had to rename ipk-batch-install.txt to ipk-batch-install.sh.txt, else it would not work at all. Also I added "-d sd" to ensure installation on the sd card.

Is there some inconsistency on the feed? How can I get around this? Is there some updated script?

Thanks for help,
Gatu

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13 On Nand
« on: February 24, 2007, 01:45:09 pm »
Hi,

two questions regarding install of Pdaxii13 on the C1000:

Is there some way of using an SD Card inserted into the C1000 instead of the HD on C3xxx?
This means basically to put the hdimage on the SD and mount it and so get witz some trick the same results as with HD?

If this does not work... if I install the base version on NAND and use ipk-batch-install.sh... will it install the additional packages on NAND or on SD?

Thanks and Br,

OpenBSD / Zaurus Power Usage & Battery Drain

Test results by an OpenBSD/Zaurus user concerning power usage and battery drain:

arm,

Notes:
It seems that the Zaurus lowers the current usage when increasing the
voltage.  I plotted out a graph of this and found that at 3.7V it was
drawing 280mA and at 5V it was drawing 200mA and at 6V it was drawing
180mA.  The graph basically leveled off at 180mA when the voltage
reached 5.6V or more.  Also I found that there are differences in
OpenBSD and in linux (db mode) when apm --suspend is executed the
Zaurus draws 2mA and after shutdown -h it draws 39mA.

This behaviour is typical for devices which have a switching power regulator.
As this is the most effective way of converting and stabilizing voltages (almost no heat dissipated which would mean loss of energy), I guess that this kind of voltage stabilizator is very common in this kind of devices.

Neither Shoutcast nor Live365 is working for me but the Xiph stations work great- anybody else not get any Shoutcast listings?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=149651\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I remember remotely that I hade to install some library to get shoutcast working.
Can you please start streamtuner from the terminal and  paste  me the lines which you get when you try to use shoutcast? Perhaps this can refresh my memory ;-)

Yes, live365 seems to change their format from time in time. On my desktop it also quit working once and I had to patch it. Possibly the version which we have is still lacking this patch.

Streamtuner works fine on pdaxrom except for live365.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Strange Apm And Battery Behaviour On C1000
« on: December 30, 2006, 05:07:22 am »
Something interesting:

echo 2 > /proc/driver/battery/msglevel make the dmesg quite verbose about battery issues, this may be interesting for troubleshooting.
echo 0 > /proc/driver/battery/msglevel will revert to normal.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Strange Apm And Battery Behaviour On C1000
« on: December 30, 2006, 03:25:35 am »
Hi,

now I used a script which I found here: http://ldrolez.free.fr/software/zaurus/ to log the battery discharge. I had do do some modufications to make it work on pdaxrom
I began to run it after I disconnected the fully charged C1000 from the charger. The CPU frequency was at normal speed. Screen blanking etc turned of. No software beside X-server (with panel etc) and the logging script running. No cards beside the SD-card inserted.

The battery lasted 298 minutes (= almost 5 hours) in this conditions.
Is this time normal in this conditions?
Everything went very slow until 43 percent, then it keeped during 6 minutes 38 percent, then in ten minutes it dropped to zero percent and the device suspended.

There is one number taken from cat /proc/driver/battery/sharpsl_main_battery_voltage which seems to represent the battery voltage. It starts at 216, then remains between 200 and 190 for a long time and at the end drops to 178 in the last minutes.
Basically the discharge curve of the battery seems to be quite flat and then drops sharply and the kernel does not seem to take this really in account.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / What Headphone With Microphone For The Cxx00?
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:33:12 am »
Hi,

if it is just for using kphone, you can use a cheap headset from a cellphone also, it will do the job and normally these headsets are quite small...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Strange Apm And Battery Behaviour On C1000
« on: December 28, 2006, 02:27:31 am »
I observed the Zaurus while discharging. Until 38% everything was ok. Then I went away 10 minutes and when I came back it was off. After charging some minutes I could resume it, so obviously it did not just turn off but rather suspend. Dmesg shows something about battery (fatal event or similar).
Is it possible that the filling state of the battery is shown wrong?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Strange Apm And Battery Behaviour On C1000
« on: December 26, 2006, 06:51:26 pm »
The battery is the original one... the problem is that I did not buy the Zaurus locally but through the internet so I cannot just go to the store and ask them to check... And I do not want to send it back while I am not sure that it is really broken.
I will observe some days more.
Is there some software which can log the state of the battery? I do not look at the battery icon all the time so I do not know exactly the behaviour just before it is empty.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Strange Apm And Battery Behaviour On C1000
« on: December 26, 2006, 03:52:42 am »
Hi,

I found a rather strange behaviour at my C1000:

When I suspend it (by the  menu on the X-screen) even after beeing fully charged  and try to resume after some days then it won't resume properly.
If I connect the charger then after some minutes it will be able to boot (no explicit reset necesary.)
It seems that the battery was completely empty because also the time settings are lost.
So something seems to draw the battery empty while the device is suspended because self discharge will not empty it in some days. There are beside the SD card no other cards inserted.

Also if I use it normally with battery it will show 100% ..... 50 % .... one step more (I do not remember which) and then it is suddenly empty. Result: see above.

The battery and the Zaurus are new, I run Pdaxrom beta3.

Is this behaviour normal? Is there any work around?

Thanks,
Gatu
