Well,
with no word from anyone to convince me otherwise, I've decided that the potential upshot from owning one of these 604s is trumped by the risk of having a premature and unsupported product from an unresponsive company.

I don't have the budget to just try it and see what I get.  I do ultimately want to have a widescreen format player, but I think I'll just wait until the market settles down and the true winners emerge.

Oh well......

Hi all,

I've been contemplating an AV604 for a while now for use as a video player. This thread has commanded my attention. I thought until now that this was a great product.
I don't have a 16:9 camera, so I'm left to wonder: is this goofy display-cropping problem going to occur if one were to view commercial widescreen format movies or is this some weird interaction with the cameras?

Any thoughts?

It does seem that Archos has distinguished itself with dreadful disregard for their customers. It's a shame that creative people can have their work besmirched by arrogant management.
