When I bricked mine it only cost me the cost of shipping it to them. The 10 bucks with insurance. They though took their sweet a_ _ time to fix it and get it back to me, over a freaking month. Though now I have the 3.13 rom to. I am also scared of flashing to any other ROMS, i use to flash to another rom once a month or more. I suggest you call teh sharp number and talk to them about the price.

Already have and that is the price they charge. Was yours a warranty repair though?   If not then they were being *extremely* nice to not even charge the evaluation fee.

If ever there was a case, of charging a ridiculous price 'because they can' then I certainly was a victim of it, hook, line and sinker...!

Maybe they increased the price now? I know Psion did that dirty little trick too. ie it cost me just $30 when I sent my series 3 palmtop in for a hinge repair the first time. When my psion needed another repair, all of a sudden they were charging a $150 flat fee for any repair regardless. For a simple repair, I thought I don't think so and it has remained in my cupboard ever since then. At first it sounded like, oh well at least if you needed a new screen it may be a good price, but I am sure that in the small print they basically said they may charge additional if needed.

gzu, Did Sharp detail what they had to fix when they sent it back? $95 might seem like a lot, but just today a 5000d sold on ebay for $127.

No offense, but the price they charged me was a ripoff in my opinion. Like I say, I would have had no problem with the original $60 they wanted. In fact your quote actually proves my point, I looked on ebay and for not much more I could get another 5500 and kept my original for spares if nothing else! At least that way I would feel my money was spent well.
Nope I bought mine on ebay no warenty. I called them for three weeks tryign to get updates and spoke to managers askign what the issue was. I was told it would cost me 35.00 to repair plus shipping but was never charged any of it except to send it to them.

Go figure. They run a shady service if you ask me.

General Discussion / Netgear MA701 Dead ?
« on: October 05, 2004, 11:49:37 am »
I have the sl5500 I was running open zaurus the 3.5 vs and it worked great  for al ogn time. Then one day it stoped doing dhcp and then a few days later it started to detect only as anon memory. I was wondering if the card may be dead.

Shortly after that my zaurus briked when I tried to flash back to the sharp rom. I needed soemthing more reliable and stable then the oz rom. I had that fixed for 10 bucks from sharp but now my card only is deted as anon mem.

Is there any drivers i need? Or any suggestions.

Hi all,

I'm very keen to get my hands on a Zaurus, I have USD$270 set aside for one,

  I'd need a:
  • SHARP Zaurus, 5500 or 5600 preffered [or better ]
  • WiFi card
  • USB charger cable [SerioIO]
  • SD Memory card
  • Case [optional]
  • Delivered to Australia [Included in the USD$270]
Please post your offers here, or send me an email through the forum, I could reduce the price if one or two items are missing. Also, please post if you know of a dealer that has a similar offer,
Thanks,
Infinite
I may be willing to part with my sl5500 which meets all your specs if the price is right. If the price is great I will throw in a belkin travel wireless router. I just got mine back from service center to make sure everything is fully working.

Make a offer at mike@genxweb.net

At least you had *some* activity. When I bricked mine, I had no LED's at all so hopefully you can resurrect it. Otherwise if you have to send it in for repair, be aware that they charge an arm and a leg. The labor charge listed for mine was a whopping $95! I now have the Sharp ROM 3.13 and knowing the cost of repair I am *very* reluctant to mess around with further flashing of other ROMS! Still with the cacko patch I can finally use my Sony Ericcson phone :-) If the reflash was only the $50 I wouldn't be so reluctant LOL

What browser are yourunning. I wonder if it is the konqurer browser giving me the issues. I have connectivity and reach items by ip but not dns. I manually added the dns servers and still nothing.

General Discussion / Zaurus and comcast cable
« on: June 03, 2004, 11:04:56 pm »
I have a sl 5500 zaurus and it worked fine with my cox cable and my router, but now I moved to PA and we have comcast. Comcast uses some weird type of authentification method but by adding my dns servers to each of my machines behind my router I have no issues except with my zaurus it says my operating system is not supported i am running open zaurus on it vs 3.3.5.

Is there any thing I need to do special for the zaurus to work on comcast. I know if i call them I will get a retarded answer from s stupid high school drop out.

Has any one tried this with their zaurus. It should allow you to broadcast your mp3 to the car radio or house radio on several different FM stations.

I cant get mine to work  though if i hook it to a set of speakers it works fine.

If any one has any tips it be much appreciated

« on: February 08, 2004, 10:11:46 pm »
hum anyone have issues using the open zaurus shell script to move the os to the sd card and run it from it. Mine seems never to boot after a full shutdown. DOes this script you write leave the main system on the zaurus and just use the sd card for the app folders ?
