Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xfe Package By 2or0 Gives Minor Problems

The second is comming from xim support option for fox. I tried to write in xfw with uim but I could not. When I typed with uim, it is ok. I removed xim option and posted it again.
Well I just tried it and it works perfectly now ^__^ Thanks 2or0. (Yes, I use pcmanfm, but I like to alternate with xfe for some tasks).

I added that to my /home/root/gtrc.mine file, but it had no effect.
I would add it to .gtkrc-2.0, but there are 2 very specific warnings not to edit this file in all caps at the top and the bottom.
As far as I know, those warnings only appear because GTK-switch (or whatever it's called) adds it automatically when it applies a new GTK theme.

I think it's just to ensure that you don't go messing it up and ending up with an unusuable theme ^__^

I have never had any hassle from editing that file directly - and I've been doing it this way for years (on my Debian box too).

I build the latest pcmanfm optimised for xscale cpu, removed the root user warning, and also removed the "folder from here as root" and "preferences" menu items which crashes pcmanfm.
have fun
Ah, I optimised it with the same flags, removed the root user warning, but I didn't know about the crashes with those two options till I was using it - I guess I just didn't think to go back and hack them out

Thanks Meanie; as always, your work is hugely appreciated - I use most of the apps from your customised beta3 feeds

Hey no problem. It's nice to know I can give things back to the community

@Capn_Fish: That was going to be my next suggestion

I use the gnome icon set to fill in the blanks. Though there aren't really any in the menu bar - they're all Tango icons for me O_o

I compiled my own because that one segfaulted under r121, but I can't get it to use the Tango icon theme. I copied the files from my Ubuntu box (16x16, 24x24, and index.theme, the only icon sizes I was using). Do I need to do anything special to get icons?

Thanks.
Well, I packaged up Tango with the appropriate iconsets, and I had '16','22' and 'scalable', plus I compiled it onboard, so it ran the icon-mapping-utility over it to generate the appropriate symlinks for pdaXrom. I think it needs specific icon naming-conventions to be recognised in Pcmanfm.

You could try my Tango pack and see if that works with your compiled pcmanfm? It's now got additional icon sizes, but still works

(I'm presuming that you've tried successfully with other iconsets, and also added that line to the .gtkrc-2.0 as I stated).

Thanks for this, it's complaining about libfam.so.0 - doesn't run without it
Oops - yes, sorry. I completely forgot about that one  I actually compiled gamin/gam_server.

Oh, and if it complains on startup about not setting the icons, just add
Code: [Select]
gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango" into your .gtkrc-2.0 file and you're sorted

Here you go.

If it's a lightweight app that runs well on beta 3, then I'd love to try it if possible. Not too bothered about the problems you mention.

I'm not set on any of the file managers I've tried really, and seeing your screen pic made attracted me to the tabbed view and simplistic interface.
I had to compile it for just this reason, as I find even a dual-pane file manager is too restrictive for useage

This version does actually support putting icons on the desktop (well, it just shows the contents of your 'Desktop' directory) and changing wallpaper, but I never used it for those, so don't know what you'd have to add to the 'main' file to get it to accept those settings.

I don't think I packaged it up with the proper 'control' file, etc, but it's here and it works - I hope you find it useful ^__^

Ah, that was me who listed it, I compiled it for personal use - I didn't think anyone else would have a use for it

It has a few 'problems' - you can run it as root OR normal user - you can't switch via the 'open current folder as root' as it will crash. Likewise, you can't edit the preferences, unless you do it manually by going to the ~/.pcmanfm/main text file and adding values there.

It's because it's meant to be compiled with the newer GTK2 - at least 2.8  It works fine, but the problems above would be solved if someone would compile the newer GTK2 libraries/headers.

Oh, and I removed that annoying 'you are running as root' warning bar at the top too

If you still want it, let me know ^__^

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Clipboard Applet For Pdaxrom?
« on: February 10, 2007, 04:33:21 pm »
Well in all fairness, in my usual Linux distro, I can use the universal method of copy/pasting  - the middle mouse button. It's only because of the nature of pdaXrom and the fact that even an emulated middle mouse button doesn't always work as it should in it that we have to resort to using an actual clipboard app as a go-between.

(Or perhaps some window managers have better support for middle-mouse button emulation then Fluxbox - I have only used this though, so I 'make-do' with xclipboard ^__^)

I haven't tried using an actual mouse via the usb connector - perhaps with a 'real' middle button you could copy and paste as you wanted to?

I still cannot copy and paste from dillo to leafpad.
If I copy something from leafpad and close and re-open leafpad, I cannot paste the copied text in leafpad.
When I close leafpad, my copy is gone *poof*
Ah, sorry I should have specified - you run xclipboard from the terminal 'xclipboard' then copy whatever you were wishing to with ctrl +c and it should appear in the xclipboard app. You can then close the original application you pasted it from and it will remain in xclipboard.

Just highlight it and press ctrl +c again to copy it from the xclipboard into whatever your new app is, and it should work.

I just tested this with Leafpad -> Xclipboard -> Links (I don't use Dillo).

I found XClipboard here /etc/X11/app-defaults/XClipboard

Running it in a console gives command not found.
What is it used for? Is it the pdaxrom clipboard?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
That's just the file to set the default for the app  The actual app should be located in '/usr/X11R6/bin'. You will probably need to download 'xfree-addons' from one of the beta3 feeds if you don't appear to have it.

And it's part (usually) of the X package (X comes with a set of standard tools: xclipboard, xclock, xmag, xcalc, xterm, xfontsel, xsetroot, xset, etc to make sure that you always have a basic working graphical environment.)

So it's not pdaXrom's clipboard per se, but X's ^__^

EDIT: Here you go, and just for the record, all the pdaXrom feeds are mirrored (and usually working) here:

There has to be another way to have a clipboard in pdaxrom without needing a lot of extra stuff installed.
Well what about the good old 'xclipboard'? It's either in the standard install of pdaXrom, or the xfree-addon ipk. It is a standard X application, after all

It works when you highlight or ctrl-c something and I've just successfully used it between Abiword and Leafpad  Plus it has the option for multiple clipboards too.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Packages Announcement
« on: February 10, 2007, 02:52:21 pm »
This time I've compiled a few things to make the zaurus prettier

[span style=\'font-size:16pt;line-height:100%\']Tango Iconset[/span] - the Freedesktop standards compliant iconset, optomised for a gtk/xfce environment. Just uncompress and drop it into either '~/.icons' or '/usr/share/icons' and edit your .gtkrc-2.0 file with this line:

Code: [Select]
gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango"
This weighs in at 8 meg, so feel free to delete some of the unneeded directories - 'emotes' and 'status' for example - to save some space.

Pcmanfm using Tango iconset and smooth engine.

KDE users can still use this set, but please download the 'icon-naming-utils' and run it over the directories within the Tango folder to enable the correct icons/symlinks for a KDE environment. Please use the command :

Code: [Select]
/usr/local/libexec/icon-name-mapping /usr/share/icons/nameoficonset/sizedir -ctypedirie; '/usr/local/libexec/icon-name-mapping /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16 -capplications'

Note: Icon-naming-utils depends on xml-simple perl extension, perl5 and xml-parser (last two are available from the feeds).

[span style=\'font-size:16pt;line-height:100%\']GTK-engine-smooth[/span] - another very fast and pretty engine, similar to Clearlooks, but around long before it

Depends on GTK 2.6 and some appropriate 'smooth' themes

[span style=\'font-size:16pt;line-height:100%\']PyPanel[/span] - if you are a fan of this panel bar, or already have python2.4 installed, then this is a good alternative to fbpanel/matchbox panel. Highly configurable and useful, it will work with matchbox applets and can launch apps directly from user-configured icons.

Depends on the additional library 'python-xlib'.

[ Invalid Attachment ] PyPanel with custom app launchers and using Matchbox applets, Smooth GTK engine showing Smooth Cold-Blue theme.

If you plan on using any of these, please can you rename as follows, thanks to the forum upload renaming bug:

gtk2-smooth-engine_0.6.0.1_armv5tel.ipk, GTK2-Smooth-ColdBlue.tar.gz, icon-naming-utils_0.8.1_armv5tel, xml-simple_1.34_armv5tel.ipk, python-xlib_0.13_armv5tel.ipk, pypanel-final_2.4_armv5tel.ipk

EDIT: Now uploaded a more complete Tango Iconset, please redownload if you find you have icons missing or want a more unified look

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Packages Announcement
« on: January 31, 2007, 05:21:20 pm »
Here's three small packages, all have been optimised for the zaurus:

[span style=\'font-size:15pt;line-height:100%\']Elinks 0.10.6[/span] a useful, text-mode only version of Links with tabbed browsing, but has support for nearly all protocols, and I've successfully used it to access both Gmail and Yahoo mail (use their 'alternate' login when the page asks you).

Note: I built it first with javascript support, but it would always give a relocation error when switching to any page  So this has been re-compiled without js support. I left the man packages in, as it is rather full-featured and you might like to read them first

It can do SMB, NNTP, Gopher, irc, telnet, mailto, HTTPS, CSS, tabbed browsing, supports archived attachments... just see the screenshot
With RXVT, also showing the 'alternate' colour scheme.

With a far more 'basic' console - VTE.

Next up, the latest [span style=\'font-size:15pt;line-height:100%\']Links 2.1pre26[/span]. Again I compiled it with just about every option (this time js is working ) It still can't access Gmail, though it does do Yahoo mail:

And lastly, [span style=\'font-size:15pt;line-height:100%\']Lamip 0.0.3[/span] a command-line music player, that will play MP3/MP4/WAV/OGG/SPEEX/AC3 and has support for URI and playlists. It can be expanded to play other formats by compiling more plugins. Start it with 'lamip -n filename' or see lamip -h for help.

Note: I repackaged this - it's not my own compile, but it works wonderfully, so I thought I'd share

I am completely new to making ipks, so bear with any errors  Also, I think I've managed to make working icon/.desktop files for Elinks/Links, but there are no menu entries - that you will have to do yourselves. (I don't use Matchbox/Openbox, so I've no idea about those entries ^__^)

Oh, and if there are any dependancy issues, please let me know O_o;;
