So, all machines own a 400 MHz processor and the display is almost the same!

i am absolutely no friend of nokia (see: closing company in germany) but there must be a difference!!!

RAM is double on the Nokia.  And, of course, the processors aren't equivalent.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Want Compiled Thread?

Please, can someone compile DeSmuME for my Zaurus C860 with pdaXrom 1.0.1 beta1 ? You can get the source here: desmume.org/download/ .
It would be nice, to have the newest version of Wesnoth ( www.wesnoth.org ) for my Zaurus too.

 You need to do some more reading before you post.

What are the minimum hardware requirements for desmume ?

From a purely technical viewpoint, there are no minimum requirements. However, for 'real-world' playable speeds, you would need at least the following :

    * Windows OS: Windows XP or Vista
    * Linux OS: Any recent Linux distribution with a 2.6 kernel.
    * 2 GHz Processor
    * 512 MB Available System Memory
    * Available Hard Drive Space: A few MB for desmume, and several GB for the nds files.
    * 128 MB 3D Video Card (Nvidia GeForce 6800 or better), ATI cards are not recommended.
    * Optional: Sound Card, if you want sound support
    * Optional: Microphone, if you wish to make use the Windows Microphone feature

What are the recommended hardware requirements for desmume ?

From a purely technical viewpoint, there are no recommended requirements. However, for 'real-world' playable speeds, the following gives you good performance:

    * Windows OS: Windows XP or Vista
    * Linux OS: Any recent Linux distribution with a 2.6 kernel.
    * 3 GHz Processor
    * 1 GB Available System Memory
    * Available Hard Drive Space: A few MB for desmume, and lots of GB's for the nds files.
    * 512 MB 3D Video Card (Nvidia GeForce), ATI cards are not recommended.
    * Sound Card.
    * Microphone.

In general, the more Ghz, the better. The faster memory, the better. Desmume currently won't benefit from multiple cores. Desmume currently is, unfortunately, slower than no$gba.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Newest Version Of Ångström?

Hi,
you'll need to ask the angstrom people on their mailing list, they don't like forums!

Paul

Tried that...asked exactly the same question a week ago.  They ignored me completely.  I am really disappointed in them.  Too bad the Pandora is Angstrom based.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1 Upgraded To Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Armel

Now get wifi going (which doesn't seem to be that "basic ubuntu"). When inserting my cards, dmesg reports nothing.
What am I missing here ?
Already tried the interfaces file from Angstrom and the Angstrom kernel.
Also tried manually loading spectrum_cs, but still nothing in dmesg.
pccardctl shows nothing.

Having fun anyway,
Chero.

Add pxa2xx_cs to /etc/modules.
After this either reboot or;

Code: [Select]
modprobe pxa2xx_cs

Off Topic forum / Are Dual Monitors Useful?
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:52:42 pm »
I have used dual monitors for years and love it.  I have my browser full screen on the main, and gkrellm, email, music player and misc stuff like a calculator on the secondary.  I also enjoy watching videos on the secondary while I surf on the main.  I have a hard time dropping down to one (when using other computers) when doing anything serious.  It is also very useful when editing video/audio and many other things which you don't think about until you have it.  I have thought of going to 3 heads for a while now...I just don't want to lose the desk space.

The USB mouse acts like it is in portrait mode. I'm not sure if these two things are related, as most people don't use an externel mouse.

This is because of the x server version we are using.  Unfortunately there is no way to fix it without recompiling either the mouse driver or x server.

One other thing which has been mentioned here: tskeys consumes 89% and up to 92% of CPU according to "top"
When first booting, I launch the console (which takes awhile) and use "top" to kill it. Once its killed response is greatly improved.

Kill tskeys (using top if you want, or just "killall tskeys") before you type startx.  will save you loads of time.

I also forgot to mention that the clock resets on every reboot. Hopefully that will be fixed in the next version.

cd /dev
mknod -m 660 rtc c 10 135
At least date and time seems to be preserved across reboots now.

Problems:
* Sound isn't working. spitz modules inserted, no errors with aplay, just no sound.
   GUI volume control automutes eventually, cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp is black hole.

Sound is working, it is just muted.  Use alsamixer and unmute the "left mixer" and "right mixer" channels.

OK, I have to ask...

...If so, is it noticeably faster than Debian?
For me, in it's current form, it's much faster. But really, you have to try it out yourself to see if you notice any difference.

I find it many times faster than Andromeda, but I also changed to a new SD card.  I went from a Transcend 150x 4gb, to a 16gb Kingston SDHC.  Not sure how much of a factor that would be.  Even python apps run better (pysol is easily 5x faster.  almost no delay).  There could also be other factors I am missing though.

Oh thats odd I put in a sandisk sdhc type 4 and my cacko distro on my slc3000 didnt recognise the card, the transcend 4gb is fine

Cacko has a different kernel.  I have problems with it recognizing my 4gb because doesn't have a fat partition.
