5x00 General discussions / How to waste time in an Airport with my Z??
« on: April 23, 2004, 12:10:40 am »
I do have a wifi, but don\'t use it much because DFW is the only Airport I\'ve been in that has a free connection.  Which brings me to coolass, do you actually work for tmobile cause that sounds a lot like a commercial... however I\'m not a big fan of 6 bucks an hour to surf.  It\'s just not that important to me.

Doc, I get paid by the hour so right now i\'m just typing in my time to Han. sheet. But was wondering if there was something that was push button.

I do small POS LAN installs on Tues-Wed-Thurs in shops around the country, so my Z is with me for \"Word Game\"  and \"Froot.\"  But I just can\'t help thinking that there is more I could do with my time.  I do need a time clock app. any suggestions?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / zImage wont stick
« on: February 08, 2004, 02:30:44 am »
I am saying that when I copy, write, move, or otherwise put the zImage file on my CF it doesn\'t stay there.  When I try and flash I get the pengosarus and a blinking cursor.  I have flashed a couple of times by writing the files directly to my Z from the cradle, since I installed the Kompany ROM I no longer had that option.  So I am using a card reader that is found by both SUSE 9 and XP.

I wasn\'t asking for flashing help, so I didn\'t properly punctuate the I in zImage.  I was stating that the file, without a file extention wont stay on the CF.  Is there any help for this?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / zImage wont stick

Ive tried to put on the zimage file for the OZ ROM (Coming back from the komp. ROM)  back on my SL5000.  Ive xfered it to my CF from SUSE and from an XP machine, but the file just won\'t stick.  It stayed when I didn\'t rename it with no file extention, but as soon as I took it off it won\'t stay.  Formatted to FAT.

I put the files on, flash, everything works fine lights and all, then when I start it up all I see is the tuxosaurus and a flashing cursor, I assume it is looking for the image file and can\'t find it.

I found a similar problem whose answer was to include the update.sh file but  I\'m not sure that will fix the simage problem

I would like to find a ROM that will use my SD and be able to sync with SUSE 9.0

Sharp ROMs / Throwing my hands up
« on: January 24, 2004, 10:11:23 pm »
Why not? I don\'t understand why Sharp would put a Linux OS on the Z and not think that we Linux enthusiasts would not want to sync it with their systems.  I\'m really curios to find out Sharp\'s stance on this.  Has anyone read anything on this point?  Or were they just hoping that third parties would do the deed for them.  I wish I\'d done some more ressearch, before I started this.

Here\'s what I\'m getting...

usb0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 40:00:00:00:FF:03
          inet addr:192.168.129.1  Bcast:192.168.129.255  Mask:255.255.255.255
          inet6 addr: fe80::4200:ff:fe00:ff03/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:0 (0.0   TX bytes:304 (304.0

I set the USB IP on the Z and restart USB but when I start the sync I get:  PC Link Error occured. Please confirm the connection. I then unplug the USB, get a few beeps, plug it back in, get a few more beeps, run another ifconfig -a, get the same thing as above, and Qtopia doesn\'t find and the Z gives the same error.

I guess I\'ll just need to invest in a card reader and go from there.

Thanks n8a, I\'m sure to most those things would be obvious to a lot of posters, but not to me, good ideas, I\'ll try tonight.

Lardman you are probabley right.  I think Tkc ROM is pretty, but not right for me, reminds me of my last couple of girlfriends.

I\'ll post if I get it going.

I had OZ/Opie connecting to Qtopia great and then put on The Kompany Rom, and can\'t get it to talk over USB. The IP addy is right and I get beeps but it won\'t communicate.  All I have is the dock and my SUSE, no card reader, WiFi, LAN or Win PC to sync with.  Any ideas on how to get the 5000sl TKR v.1 to connect??

Which TK ROM should I download for my 5000d?  The 1.0 Final Release or the  1.0RC4?
I\'m guessing the RC is some sort of revision (or a Radio Controled edition??)  but the Final and the RC both have the same date on the Download page.

Thanks for the help folks, I think I\'m about to turn the corner on this whole thing

Linux Issues / SuSe 9.0 vs 8.0
« on: January 16, 2004, 02:09:22 pm »
I followed the directions in the UFAQs for SUSE 8.0 and then under the settings tab I went into the security icon and set the sync from network to \'Any.\'  Then in QT  File-]Settings-]General-]Connection I set it to USB and entered the IP of the Z.

I know this might sound like childs play to the experts, but I knew none of these steps until I sat down and refused to get up until I had it working.

Now to change ROMS...

5x00 General discussions / How many SL-5000d users out there?
« on: January 12, 2004, 12:03:43 am »
I\'ve one with the OZ  ROM.
CF Wi-Fi card, and modem with one 128 SD and a 128 CF.  I like the OZ ROM but I will be trying others until I can use my modem reliably.

I\'m a happy camper but I wish I had gone with the 5500 if for nothing else but the extra built in space.  But I feel like I got a rookie baseball card with my 5000.

I could connect very well with my Sharp ROM over a phone line with my CF Modem (although Opera would give me out of memory errors and close).

I then flashed to OZ (many more out of memory errors now on all apps but that\'s another story) and it doesn\'t come with a dialer, the CF Modem is recognized as such but I can\'t find any way to use it.

Any suggestions?

Loving all the info here, after walking through the desert it is good to get to an oasis.
