Zaurus - pdaXrom / Battery Useage
« on: July 07, 2004, 06:13:17 am »
That sucks!  I noticed that battery life problem too.

If I wanted to contact ATi, What would be the references of the card they use in the Zaurus? What should I ask them exactly?

Maybe we could write a petition to them!!

Go to Settings Tab->Light and Power,
and then select the amount of time before suspension.

you have different settings wether you are in battery mode or pluged in.

I hope I answered.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko QT Rom, apps in 640x480
« on: June 23, 2004, 11:48:26 am »
Hi!

I am using Cacko QT Rom 1.21B, on a SL760, and I am wondering if there is a way to make applications use the 640x480 resolution (and rotation mode).

Let me explain: if I try an application, let's say zsafe (http://z-soft.z-portal.info/zsafe/), the application starts in 320x240 portrait mode. This is not ok on a SL760. and the screen cannot be rotated.

I contacted zsafe author, and he mentionned that somebody had a solution for opie: here is what  he said:
Quote
In the file
/home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/zsafe.desktop
I added this line:
Display=640x480/144dpi,480x640/144dpi

Does anybody has any idea on how to make this work with Cacko QT Rom??

Thanks!

Patrick

I actually completly agree with padishah_emperor. I would love to see pdaXrom development more opened! It is bad they dropped the Cacko QT Rom, and the pdaXrom seriously lacks docs, even if it is great!

Laze, Open source does not mean being a mess, it just means that someone needs to have the final word. I would see sash as the Linus of the pdaXrom!

For my part, I would like in the following order:
1) Better doc: clear, step by step instructions on how to rebuild the toolchains, and the whole rom, how to make a package etc... Info exists but is too spreadout. Again, I would be willing to help.
2) Better hardware support: Screen rotation (a must!!), volume controls, on/off buttons, USB mass storage (they may already have this) etc...
3) Support for QTopia! I would LOVE a merge between the Cacko QT and pdaXrom!!  My point is that ko/PI is in realease 1.66d (for QTopia) or something while only the 1.62 is available for pdaXrom. In addition, there is currently NO address book (or I completly missed it) while ko/PI for Qtopia already have one. This is not a critic to anyone, but the apps are evolving so quickly and we have too few people working on pdaXRom (even they are doing a great job!!).

Just my few wishes!

It does not mean to be a critic to anyone. Just food for thoughts.

Best regards,

Patrick

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Where is \'find\' on pdaxrom?
« on: March 11, 2004, 08:29:24 am »
Thanks omin0us!

I  would not mind having a copy of the app to convert .deb to ipk!

Regarding the missing utilities, my vote would be that they got included in the distribution, as they are really core to a linux system!

Generally speaking, I found the pdaXrom great, but seriously laking documentation. I mentionned it to laze, but I would be happy to work on documenting the rom (what it can do, and cannot and how to do it) if this could be helpfull! Just contact me (pat at monmien dot com)

thanks for the hint, I will give it a try, I still have a copy of zgcc-3.3.1.img!

Keep on the good work!

« on: March 09, 2004, 10:02:15 am »
Hi!

I feel stupid to ask this, but I noticed that several utilities are missing from my copy of the pdaxrom 1.0.0.
I have found that \'find\', \'id\' and others are missing.

Are they in a separate package? And if yes which one?

pdaXrom is great!

Thanks!

« on: March 09, 2004, 08:34:03 am »
Hi!

I just downloaded the latest pdaXrom (v1.0.0), and it does  not seem that the screen rotation is enabled, ie when moving the screen from landscape to portrait mode.

Anybody knows how to run this? Is it work on progress?

thanks!

Isn\'t pyqt already ported to the Zaurus?
What about this:
http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/

There is also a great software on this page: it is called \'treeline\' and is even better than hnb.
It would be great if somebody could port treeline to the Zaurus. I contacted the author, but he got not Z...
