As long as the voltage is 5v, you won't damage your Z. The main risk is to the USB port on your laptop. Some computers handle it better than others, I have heard reports of smoked USB ports on some other forums. They claimed it happened suddenly, even though the cable had been working fine for months already.
The power draw also depends on what the Z is doing. Recharging with the Z turned off is safer than running with WiFi at full screen brightness.

I bought one on eBay, very cheap and works fine.
But you need to be a little careful with them - they draw power that exceeds the USB spec, that's why the "official" cables don't do this. Some people say they can damage your USB ports.

I haven't tried it yet. Still under development. Last time I looked, which was a couple of months back, he had just gotten the kernel to boot. The new screenshots look like a lot of progress has been made since then.

What about this question? Or, is there another compiler that creates better optimized binary code than gcc?
I've just been working on some x86 code where the icc compiled code runs literally 4X faster than the same code compiled with gcc.

AFAIK, the 760 and 860 are identical. The colors are different, and the 860 came with some extra software in the box but that's it.
The 64 meg card is definately big enough for the Cacko installer. If you ever want to do a NAND backup or restore, you'll need a 256 meg or bigger CF card.

I've been using the October version for a while. It works great, although I changed a few config options to revert the new keyboard stuff, and recompiled it myself.

Hobbies have to take a back seat to work deadlines.
Here's the ipk. The Sandisk card should function like any other network card after installing. Other networking cards should also still work same as before.
It installes a command line program. You can run "sandisk_plus net" or "sandisk_plus mem" to switch between network and memory mode. If you are adventurous, you can also try "sandisk_plus both" although for me it makes both of them not work.
The ipk overwrites files in /etc/pcmcia, so please back up this directory first. If you want to uninstall, you'll need to restore this directory.

I've never gotten burned on an internet transaction. I think this is because I try to follow some common sense ideas:
1) I'm not running a charity for "maybe hard luck but probably not" scammers. If anything in my due diligence raises red flags, then I don't do business. Period.
2) Buying things on eBay from sellers with good reputations (>99%) is usually pretty safe. Although watch out for hijacked accounts, which brings me to:
3) If something is too good to be true, it usually is. (there are exceptions...
4) I'm more careful buying things not from eBay. I usually ask for a phone number, and take some extra steps to confirm the identity of the seller and find out whatever information about them is easy to find. For example, it's a good sign if somebody selling a Zaurus is active in a local Linux user's group in their hometown. Due diligence is worth it.
5) My willingness for risk goes up for an extremely rare or exotic item. In most cases, if you don't buy it from one place there are other opportunuties. There are plenty of Zauruses out there. Occasionally there's something worth taking a chance for, but it makes me fret every day until the package arrives.

- I recently bought an accessory worth at least $100 for $1 on eBay. The seller used a poor choice of keywords in the auction title, so nobody else discovered it.

A few other options:
1) The C760 has binary-only modules for the C-Guys WiFi SDIO card. No support for the C3x00 sadly.
2) USB WiFi should be fine. You just need to find a convenient way to attach and carry the dongle. There's also been talk of putting the USB chipset internally, see the Hardware Mods forum for details.
3) Buy a 3100 and replace the internal hard drive with a bluetooth adapter (WiFi won't fit). Then the external CF slot is free for WiFi.
4) Buy a 6000 and get everything built-in without cards or hacking.
